Greetings from Nebraska, you have my like and a new subscriber, keep going and I'll follow you.
very cool, i was practicing it too recently, your sketchs remind me of Feng Zhu.
@@JuanFarineliFumis thanks, yeah I have fun with it
Value and color is a really complicated topic IMO. Because even if you understand the basic fundamentals of it, like you explain them in this video, it still feels janky AF. For example, how does one paint in color on the fly while always having proper values? Or, the question that troubles me the most: How does one paint certain colors while not having to bend over because these colors don't make for good value. A good example would be a character with white skin having yellow clothing. I'd want a contrast separation between the skin and the clothing but when I start making the yellow darker to a point where the value read is better, I've totally lost the original yellow color I had in mind.
@@EldritchUniverse great points, and I agree, it is a complicated topic. Too complicated to cover all in one video, so I hope to get more out on the subject. This one in particular was mainly just a small tip for those struggling with being overwhelmed, but I definitely see the value in talking about color theory on this channel more Thanks for the comment and checking out the video, I appreciate it
I use the same principle to edit photos; start with zero hue and saturation, get the light right first, and then switch back to colour
nice, that's cool to know, thanks for sharing
Nice video, very informative! One thing I'd add is that once you include hue, apparent value becomes a complicated subject. Yellows are perceived as brighter than blues even when of the same measured brightness, which is part of why the rainbow skies can be difficult to pull off
@@michaelmorgan8508 for sure, that’s definitely true. Maybe I could’ve went more into that idea here, but just wanted to keep this one simple for beginners. Good topic for a future video though. Thanks for checking it out
Thank you so much David I am really enjoying your value studies on insta cuz am doing that too and it's inspiring 🙏
I just want to add that the first 8 minutes you are telling us to make these deliberate marks to indicate things about the landscape or creating the foreground of grass which you then just cover up with huge blocks of colors showing no indication of the previous you just made us do. What was the point of those first parts then?
@@cowkong thanks for the feedback. regarding both of your comments about this: that part was building up paint, value, and color in the foreground. If you’re talking about where I covered the more yellow part of grass up, I mentioned something along the lines of “maybe we can have this green more of a blue color”. Before I started to paint over some of it. Painting doesn’t always immediately work out with the first paint strokes you put down, so sometimes it takes a little while and sometimes you might need to paint over some parts you previously painted, or adjust the colors slightly. I painted this in real time, so it can be a little tricky to anticipate every step beforehand. Which is why sometimes you’ll see me paint over some things. Maybe I should make it clearer in any future videos if I make those type of adjustments just so there’s no confusion. Anyway, thanks again for the support.
What's going on around 8 minutes? You kind of skip over a lot of little steps without giving any reasons why. I really enjoy your tutorials and I'm learning some great techniques but you really skim on the details of the processes quite a bit that makes me assume, rather than actually gain insightful knowledge. Thank you for all your dedication and work!
Hoping u can put free palettes if u make another tutorial ❤❤❤❤ love it and thanj u btw
How would you go about studying how to make background while increasing speed speed without dipping in quality?
@@BoredOtakuss I’d say just keep on practicing. Eventually the more you do it, the naturally faster you’ll get at it. You could also try putting a time limit on your studies. You may see a dip of quality at first, but eventually you should be able to find ways to make quality art more efficiently.
Thank you. I was waiting for the reflective sunset…. That made me very happy 😊
Not me watching this with no procreate 😭😭
Thanks for the instructions as well. Those take digital painting process videos like this to a whole another level because beginner painters can better understand what the painter is thinking about while painting.
Your video is very helpful! I gained a lot of knowledge! Many thanks for that! I signed up for your channel and am eagerly awaiting your upcoming video! ❤❤
Just recently subscribed to your channel. Your videos are so educational and fun to watch. Very relaxing as well. Looking forward to your future contents and will dig into some of your older videos as well. Keep up the great work!
why your brush size is changing while you are painting? mine's stay the same all the time.
I have dynamic brush size on so when i press the pencil harder the brush gets larger. It's a brush setting you can change. Otherwise it might be because i frequently change the size slider of my brush when I paint
@@davidjosephcreativespace thank you very much my friend!
Fantastic!
Ahh! I just made my first!! Thank you! So much for this tutorial!!
you stoped with your videos?
Hi there! Thanks for the tutorial. Your video just showed up when I have no intention to look for a landscape painting on Procreate. And it doesn’t show any result of yours when I intentionally look for it! How weird. 😂 Now once I saw it, I subscribe to it. Yeay, one more favourite channel! ❤
Can you start include a reference photo? That would be super helpful. Loving the tutorials !❤
I really like your drawing I sub to your channel 😊a
Hi! I'M SO GRATEFUL, thank you for your tutorials I wanted to draw an illustration, bur I fear of Photoshop..so I haven't even start it.. but then,TODAY, I found your instagram and this channel Your videos are super-informative,and step by step process is so comfortable for newies..thank you fro your work!🩷 today I will draw with you
God, you are so good man. Would you recommend some tutorials for a total beginner .
I'm so happy! I just created my first grass brush. Thank you so much ! Among the many tutorials I've watched online, yours is the best and easy to follow.
Really easy to follow along with and so informative. Thank you!
Thank you ❤❤❤❤
This is such an amazing step by step process, I really appreciate artists that are able to showcase their craft and teach in such a concise way! Amazing stuff brother!
Great tutorial! Just what I was looking for, and I'm really happy with my results.. keep up the awesome work!
Thanks so much for this tutorial!
This video became more popular than others, but that’s not a sign to give up. Now you have +1 dedicated follower :P
Thanks for everything!
Thank you very much! Your tutorials help me a lot and it is pleasant to listen to you.
These are great tutorials and I look forward to them. Thanks. One thing. Whenever I try to make anything with the selection tool it turns out nasty or ugly. Is it practice or confidence or bravery or none of the above? 😊
I appreciate that. I would say for me it's practice and confidence. I've used that tool a lot before so I feel much more confident with it now than I did at a certain point earlier on
@@davidjosephcreativespace Thanks. I'm going to keep trying because I really like it and it has a lot of great uses.
where is my environment design episode 3 ?❤
In a scene like this, where would you put a character if they are the focal point ?
If I wanted them to be the focal point I’d put them in that area of light in the foreground grass part. But for a secondary focal point you could have them further back in the scene, smaller, less noticeable. Sometimes I’ll make a silhouette of a person shape and move/resize it around the canvas to see what looks good
Need a full length tutorial pleaseeeee......❤❤❤❤❤
I am really appreciating your Tutorials. ESP the thumbnails of the buildings and whatnot. I am stepping into a realm of drawing characters and want their scenery to be reflective of that so THANK YOU!!
Looks like a James Juliet Art tutorial
I got a question what if you're on a different planet and the sky is red or purple. Would the shadow of the mountain be a cool red or purple
Yeah good question, whatever the sky color is will strongly influence the shadows. So purple sky would give more of a purple colored shadow. Shadows on earth only look blue when the blue sky is out. If it’s overcast outside shadows won’t be blue
I'd love to see you do a challenge where you only paint on one or two layers.
Yeah that’d be a fun challenge for sure, thanks for the idea
Keep going David👍🏻
this is amazing.
Thank you so much for this
Umm... Your thumbnails are better than my actual drawing.
Hi, thanks for this, so helpful. Love hearing your thought process. Would love to hear how you find your pallet, I struggle with colours. Great tip on the perspective tool. New to me! I really liked the background music, very meditative, which is great when painting. What was it?
thanks, I appreciate that, glad you found it helpful. I'll need to make a color video at some point, but I do talk about color and how I choose them in some of my long form tutorials. The music can be found in the description of this video. Thanks for watching :)
Very helpful, Thank you for sharing!
love the technique its so simple and rewarding at the same time ❤❤ i love to draw environment but i can't draw good enough yet keep making videos like this it's really help a lot 😊
Cool trick with the clouds. Another great video. TY. 😊
Thanks, I appreciate that
I'd definitely like that perspective and lighting videos. Especially about how to apply them in an environment scene. As you mentioned, it's one thing to draw primitive shapes and light 'em up and another to do it with environments.
For sure, that’s something I want to make, just have to dedicate some time to structuring how I want to go about teaching it
