Welcome back to my little cottage corner of the internet :) today's video is a little thrift store haul for the autumn months. I love shopping second-hand & finding quality pieces that I love without having to compromise quality or longevity. I filmed this right before I chopped off most of my hair, so this is probably the last video with my long hair. Anywho, do you guys like thrift shopping? ...

@ you're welcome!
The way Eevy melts into your lap melts my heart!!! ♥️
Aww thank you 🥹❤️
I have never watched a vid from you before. I'm 30 seconds in, and I need to say wow, that dog really loves you. ❤🐶
Aww thank you ❤️ she’s my buddy
I want to clarify that Asperger Syndrome is still used in patients. I was diagnosed in the late 2010 more or less papers when I move to US in 2019 figure as Asperger Syndrome and not Autistic Spectrum Disorder. PS: Love the way you put this together ❤
Thank you so much for making a video about this! I listen to them regularly and agree with your assessment of their content in general. The autism discussion in that episode made me furious and I'm glad that you made this comprehensive and level-headed response highlighting the misinformation that it contained. (I'm autistic too.)
Aww I’m so glad it was meaningful to you!! Thank you :)
Gosh. I love your "rant" on wassermann's "expertise". You sound like me when I analyze and get frustrated with idiocy! Bang on 🎉
Haha thank you ✨😂
hiiiii !!! didn't watch the video but i do disagree with the title! sending love and light!
I agree with you actually! The video is actually why I think we shouldn’t be cancelling her for sharing her thoughts and opinions ☺️
@@emmascottagecorner diva! love this x
I revised the title since it seemed to be misrepresenting my stance :)
@@emmascottagecorner i think that's a suitable idea! the poor girl has been shot to fame and regardless to anything - she is trying her best to survive! imagine growing worldwide basically overnight.. she is sure to slip up etc, but she hasn't done anything for you to make a clickbait title tbf! people read headlines and run with them, and that is what this suggested too!
No? And this title is kinda click bait-y, we should just leave that poor girl alone. Enjoy her music if you like it, skip it if you don’t, and never ever harass anyone because that’s cringe and selfish. Videos with titles like this help stoke the fire, let’s all do better and have some compassion for women.
The whole video is actually me sharing why I think we should be NOT cancelling her by answering the question in the title since everyone seems to be on a hate campaign
glad to see a video on this because i noticed the same thing but didn’t know if i was reading into it too much! they’ll be on break for a while and clearly they’re focused on more sensitive things going on rn but i hope when they come back this is something they can discuss
Yes I absolutely agree :)
omg i threw my phone when she said that about autistic people "chosing" to be isolated. like let me let you in on a little secret queen, i cry every single day because i dont have any friends. not looking for pity, but ohmygosh do not presume to know what's going on in ANYONE'S mind but your own, much less a HUGE group of people.
I think the misunderstanding is so broad and drop that even clinicians can be grossly uninformed, as was the case here in my opinion. You’re going to get through the loneliness and find a group of people who love you for who you are ❤️
13:30 w- wait. This just really gets me 😂😂😂 like the misunderstanding is through the roof. Autistic people supposedly don’t want social companionship? They do, it’s just complicated, like how do these people think they know things?? The hubris 😂
Yep and the scariest part is that it’s coming from the mouth of a clinician… she was reading directly from the doctor’s notes which shows how misinformed even mental health professionals can be.
8:19 wait.. his brain was deprived of oxygen? And they diagnosed him with “Asperger’s?” That’s… malpractice no? A clinician should know what autism is and isn’t.
My understanding is that he was diagnosed when Asperger’s Syndrome was still a recognized mental condition prior to 2013 when the DSM-V was published. I don’t know if at the time the concept of oxygen deprivation was conflated with diagnosing autism or not, but it’s since been proven that it doesn’t “cause” autism. Regardless the fact that the doctor withheld the diagnosis is very concerning to me, as it should’ve been changed to ASD as far as I know (though I’m not a medical professional).
They have had some really gross takes in the past, especially surrounding mental health and trauma. As a therapist I've called them out in the comments about it
After researching a bit, I saw people saying this as well.
@emmascottagecorner I can't remember who it was about but the had some awful borderline personality disorder beliefs and another that was just factually wrong about dissociative identity disorder. It wouldn't take much to look into a disorder before saying something awful about it or ignorant
@@Chelsea-ph6cs yea I totally agree and also saw comments about BPD and DID
I was listening to the episode the other day and was horrified listening to the Becca Scoops part
Same same same
Hi Emma! I just discovered your channel today. As a fellow Autistic individual, I really appreciate you addressing this topic! I was originally diagnosed in 2009 (DSM-4 era) with Asperger's. I'm now 25, so it's been pretty tricky navigating the DSM-5 change all while growing and becoming an adult. It was also interesting going through the public school system during the implementation of "no child left behind," but that's a whole other can of worms for another time. 😅 However, I completely agree with the change. Thank you for explaining so eloquently the reasons behind the change in diagnostic title. I just subscribed, and I can't wait to watch more of your videos! 🐸
Aww hi and thanks for sticking around ❤️ im so glad I was able to articulate the topic in a way that others felt heard
Great take on this topic. I also watched the episode and found the expert to be... less than ideal to say the least. Its sad when someone you should be able to trust, like a medical professional, spreads misinformation. ALSO- LOVE the dog!
Thank you! I sincerely find it difficult to believe he’s an expert simply because of the misinformation. I feel like there needs to be some sort of accountability there.
your dog is adorable
Aww thank you! She’s always happy to be involved :)
This was so eloquently put, thank you.
I appreciate this! Of course, I’m glad it helped.
I agree with you. I think they just made a mistake. I'm also autistc and I was uncomfortable when I heared that episode. However now that things are going on in Stephanie's private life that is overshadowing eveything in my mind. I'm sad they'll be gone for a while, but glad Stephanie can have some time off.
Yeah I feel so sad for her and her family right now. I’m praying that they can take the time they need to heal and grieve.
Wasn't Nick in either his teens or very early 20's? Relationships are rarely long lived at that age and people that age OFTEN fail to reflect and people of that age rarely *don't* bounce right into a new relationship, why was that gal treating that as an autistic thing? That's a youth thing.
So I have a bit of a weird perspective in that regard because I’m 22 and have been married for 3 years 😂 we were very thoughtful and had lots of support and wisdom to go on though and from the beginning it was healthy. In most cases that just doesn’t happen, especially if there’s underlying trauma or mental illness that hasn’t been addressed. Regardless, I think my biggest issue was the idea that autism automatically means you can’t learn from past experiences because that’s just not the case.
@@emmascottagecorner I've been married since I was 22 and we just came up on our 20th anniversary lol here's hoping y'all get to celebrate a 20th too! And yea my bestie is autistic and she is one the most analytical people I know, and basically embodies..... none of what that gal was saying. And her diagnosis is on paper and everything. A lot of what she was describing is standard young people stuff. Like to the point of being super common TV tropes. It's like she doesn't understand autistic people OR neurotypical young people. Like how many people must she have misdiagnosed if she conflates youth and autism?
Yep I think a lot of it has to do with stereotypes that aren’t rooted in reliable info so it’s important to push back on that narrative.
You just made a very eloquent and meaningful video explaining how you feel and think. Genuine question: do you really think your struggle are the same as someone who is, for example, nonverbal? Not it’s a competition, you just speak like all autism struggles are the same, and not a spectrum. I don’t know you at all, but I would never know you have autism until you announced it. Just my opinion. ❤️
Thanks for the compliment :) I appreciate your questions & see where you’re coming from! I don’t think my struggles are the same as anyone else’s (autistic or not), but I do think they’re similar & often arise from the same root cause. I’ve had many conversations with people who base their understanding of autism on unreliable/outdated information. My goal with this video is to express that autism is not JUST those stereotypes, & is often radically different than what people think. It’s not a competition, but there are autistic people who struggle more than myself. I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to share content so that I can open up space for questions like yours to be asked. While I may not have as many struggles as someone who is nonverbal, for example, the point I’m trying to make is that autism can look drastically different in each individual, but it also has to consist of a number of observable diagnostic criteria (& I think many people have a skewed idea of the criteria that diagnoses someone as autistic). One thing people aren’t always aware of is that many autistic people feel the need to suppress autistic behaviors to blend in. For example, many of my autistic behaviors were either not observable or were suppressed during filming out of habit. What’s people can’t see by watching this is that I spent 4 hours filming because I couldn’t tell if my facial expressions or tone of voice were correct, I constantly had to take breaks to move around, & so many other things that wouldn’t be clear unless we were communicating in person. I don’t think you were saying that I’m not autistic by any means, but I wanted to share some examples of things that aren’t so obvious just by looking from the outside :) I know my answer was long-winded, but I wanted to try and explain things as best as I could. I respect your thoughts and hope I was able to articulate my own in a way that makes sense ❤️
To add to this great response: I am sure you meant well in the OP comment, and so I would like to add some insight. Expressions like “I wouldn’t have thought you were autistic unless you had said so” and (the way I interpreted it, correct me if I’m wrong), “which is surprising, cuz you just made such an eloquent video” seem to stem from encountering smth that doesn’t jive well with a certain idea or preconception we may have about smth (in this case autism). I think it’s natural that thinking “this doesn’t fit into this box, but my views may also be limited (due to experience e.g.), so maybe I need to change the kind of ideas I put into this box” is difficult to adhere to, and also natural to say “this doesn’t fit into this box, so I’ll question it” (which is part of being critical!), but I do think it’s important to be aware of it and try to assess when which one is fitting. It’s also why when a friend of mine said that they wouldn’t have thought I was autistic when I told them, I just said “well, maybe you have a different idea of what autism is”, and then (tried my very best) to explain what it does entail. It’s so very hard to know everything, but it’s nice when people are open to learning, just like you seem to be! :)
Well said :)
I'm honestly relieved that its these idiotic "experts" and not Steph and Derek directly making these ridiculous claims. Still not great that they included this nonsense in their video, and sent people to that channel, but at least it was a fruit of the poisonous tree situation as opposed to them directly spouting misinformation if ygm.
Yeah I totally hear you! I agree that it definitely wasn’t them directly saying it, but I do wish they’d researched a bit more before spreading such harmful misinformation. I’m hoping they address it in the next episode since a lot of people commented about it
@@emmascottagecorner Unfortunately, with the passing of Adam that was made public a few hours ago, I don't think they'll be addressing this.
@@IOrganiseContentUK I honestly get that, and think right now the health and safety of themselves and their families is the most important thing right now.

Those are almonds, those pits and the almonds are different things entirely
They ended up being peaches, which makes sense why the pits look the way they do. I’ve never seen almond pits in person, so I wasn’t too sure in the beginning but once the fruit really started maturing (not shown in video) it was clear :)
Its pebbles.... if you bought that you were scammed
