It was honestly cool that they had a normal human that could fight on par with Hunters and Huntresses on skill alone, though I think it says something that he really only fought the kids. He ran when Glynda showed up and he was afraid of Cinder. I think he really helped to show the difference in skill level between an adult and a child still learning, something later seasons completely forgot.

My favorite part of volume 1 is the dust shop scene just because of what ruby was listening to they see as small and helpless just a child but soon a warrior will soon run wild then she proceeds to beat up all the henchman and send him running away

Watching these early scenes made me miss the early vibes of the show. When it was just a story without all the political nonsense the fandom forced upon it.

Can I just say that all 3 voice actors did a great job so gray he is really that great in rwby vol 1-3 and then there was Billy kameez but he recorded his own lines but uh R.I.P to Billy kameez and Christopher he was in vol 9 of rwby as well so 3 voice actors for Roman in rwby but if you wanna count one more voice actor of Roman uh yes there is a Japanese voice actor for Roman in rwby icequeendom so that is uh well 4 voice actors for Roman in rwby but one of them did pass away so yeah let me know witch one is your favorite Roman voice actor in rwby and to me both gray and Billy kameez uh RIP to him so yeah and peace out :)

Billy voiced Roman up until vol 9 R.I.P

Y'know what I just realized? This might be an unpopular opinion, but Roman Torchwick kind of reminds me of Shuji Ikutsuki from Persona 3. Here's why: 1) Both were the most badass villains in the game/show they were in. 2) Both were equally threatening despite not having powers. 3) Both used projectile weapons. Roman used a cane that shot fireballs and Ikutsuki used a gun. 4) Both died anticlimactically. Roman got eaten by a grim, and Ikutsuki commit suicide by falling to his death off the school building. 5) Both had very little screen time, but yet still ended up being loved by the fandom. 6) Both probably would have had larger roles had they lived. Roman would have gone on to serve Salem alongside Neo, and Ikutsuki would have done more as the leader of Strega. 7) Both were in cohorts with three other villains. Roman with Cinder, Emerald, and Mercury; and Ikutsuki with Takaya, Jin and Chidori. 8) Both had their VA's changed later in the series. 9) Both left behind their own legacies who vowed to avenge their deaths. For Roman it was Neo and for Ikutsuki it was Sho Minazuki. 10) Both were killed off only to have a diety take their place as the main villain (Roman: Salem. Ikutsuki: Nyx). 11) Both were the best at cracking jokes. 12) Both were successful in persuading the masses with delusions of a brighter future by making them to fight the wrong people. 13) Both characters' lasts words were about changing the world. (Well, at least before being anticlimactically killed off as I've stated repeatedly.) Now obviously we have to point out that the only main difference is that we didn't initially know that Ikutsuki was evil at first, whereas with Roman, we obviously knew that he was evil since the beginning. But other than that, these two have a lot of similarities as villains!

I'm really that in the new volume given both RWBY are in a fairytale with no obvious consequences and ruby is clearly having a mental breakdown we see her take up some, roman like tendencies. If she quotes the "lie, steal, cheat, and survive" I might actually be complete in life

Roman has one of the coolest fighting styles in the show. I love he uses his cane as a melee weapon, and was even skilled enough to dodge all of Sun's gun-chucks. Even without a semblance, he's a total badass.

still baffled how he gives a grand speech and then it gets cut off immediately by him getting eaten, makes him look like a idiot. but knowing the writers, im glad they killed him off before he can be butchered, its like the saying, “die a hero or live long enough to become a villian”, except its kinda like this in this case, “die early to be known as a good character, or live long enough to become volume 6 adam”. also it would have been nice to see him care about neo before the ruby vs neo and torchwick fight, like him doing a heist with her or something where they have lots of fun beating the crap out of people while stealing and burning everything or even just a headpat after neo breaks him out of airship jail that would have told a lot about their relationship. also if torchwick didn’t get eaten i guarantee he would have absolutely defeated ruby and threw her off of the ship angrily and then would have went back on the airship to go find neo. maybe he would have learned not to give out victory speeches at the worst times because it put neo in danger. or hahah, ride the bird grimm that would have been cool. so anyway its clear that torchwick is my favorite character :-]

Roman is the perfect example that quality is before quantity. Our man didn’t even have 30 minutes of screentime and yet he’s to this day, and after 5 volumes of his passing, the greatest RWBY villain ever. Is kinda what they did with Dimentio in Super Paper Mario, he only appears in one game and dies, but still is by far the fiercest and coolest foe.

The writers really have a habit for shining the light on all the cookie-cutter characters while simultaneously bashing the good ones.

This character represents Good RWBY for me. He's there from the very beginning, and when he's gone, the show starts a steady decline in quality
