Madison County Tower 343 waiting for its annual 2000gpm pump test.
มุมมอง 408ปีที่แล้ว
This is wet ladder tower that the County bought to cover a new industrial park, called the Mega Site. it was made by Rosenbauer as a promotional tool and the county bought it after they finished their demo tour at a significant discount. it has the names of the 343 who were killed on 9/11. The engine noise is from another truck undergoing testing. The Tower hardly makes a sound at idle.

the firewood pile so far.

firewood before splitting. Most of it was storm debris that I got from roadside piles, although some of it was trunks I dragged down the street with my truck from a tree that was felled by a crew. I had help loading some of it but absolutely all of it I unloaded myself and I bucked it to length by myself. Echo CS490 20" with a 78 link semi chisel chain. I'm getting pretty good at sharpening it.
unusual train.

This is on the CN line from Jackson, MS to Canton. There is an aggregate plant in Canton and you can see aggregate in some of the cars. The train was pulled by a single Union Pacific locomotive and had another blue conveyor car mid-train.
Making a USGI "Silent Sling" adjustable.
มุมมอง 2.5Kปีที่แล้ว
USGI Slings are usually cheap as surplus. The 72" sling is NSN 1005-01-368-9852 and the 52" is NSN 1005-01-216-4510. Each come with the sling and two metal clips. it doesn't matter if you have the clip on thd top of the loop or the bottom. I'm sure there are other ways to do the sling, but this works for me.
Preparing a MS fire engine for cold weather .December 21, 2022
มุมมอง 141ปีที่แล้ว
It usually doesn't get cold enough in Mississippi for it to be a problem for fire engines. But that can be a problem in itself. I actually drained the booster reel off-camera, because I had the truck running. It takes a couple of minutes.

A quick video of cutting off a meter with improvised tools. it's much easier with the valve keys we have in the fire trucks, but this will work. The hardest part may be FINDING the meter box and digging out the actual valve. I didn't film that part because it was exciting as you can imagine. The valve will be on the side closest to the water main, usually but not necessarily at the street.

Fire Engine Pump Test
มุมมอง 2.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Annual pump test performed by Sunbelt with their Draft Commander mobile testing platform. They set up in a central location and we bring trucks from all over the county to be tested. This is required to keep our Rating that allows our residents to obtain cheaper fire insurance rates. A truck that won't pass it's pump test doesn't exist in the eyes of the State Rating Bureau. And isn't that a da...

Genius. I just did this to a totally different sling and it worked perfectly. Good info.
I used the same trick replacing wheel and triple tree bearings in a motorcycle once. Put all the bearings in the freezer for about 20 minutes, and they dropped into place, no press needed.
Beautiful Beast.
One of the best trucks to learn.
Beautiful

Your some what knowledgeable, its called a presure governor. Your not sucking water, your removing air then atmosphere pressure pushes water up the hose like a straw. Every pump operator needs to use basic lose. 7 lb. Per 50' etc Very easy I say before you do youtube videos brush up on your knowledge more.
Umm, no. I'm pumping from the tank. The pump is already primed. But feel free to make you own video with your own fire engine where you sant point out that I'm wrong.
Sorry but I didn't click on this site for a history lesson. Stick to the subject heading or edit you BS !
This may be a good thing until that Computer decides to take a shit, then what ?
That ship has sailed, the whole truck is controlled by the computer. The accelerator isn't connected to the throttle. The transmission is controlled by the computer. It's much more likely that if you run out of DEF, which will throw the truck into Limp Mode. I don't like it, but that's the way it is. The days of control by mechanical linkages are over.
Thanks for the video, Jasper.
Canton, l lived across the street from the fire department.
Are you at farmhaven, I am from Kosciusko Mississippi. Thanks for sharing your video.
This test was done in Canton, but our dept is west of Madison and North of Ridgeland.
I cut the plug off, sprayed some rust remover, ,tapped around it with a small ball peen hammer, heated it up slightly with a torch(just warm enough to smoke a little and it came right off with a 7/8 box end of a combination wrench. Super simple
This is quite stupid. If you pull it from the other direction to tighten it - it will come undone. It's not very secure. If you want an adjustable sling then buy an adjustable sling. Don't try to convert a USGI Silent Sling to something it was never meant to do.
Thank you for your opinion.
@@JasperFromMS lol ignore the fud , good video brother
Very helpful, thanks
What was it?
I don't know. It looked like some of the cars were filled with ballast.
I've been looking for some good Jalapeno Sausage. I will have to stop in there the next time I am in Biloxi!
Thanks for all your videos!
Thank You! Good information
Cool demo!
Thank you for the video very helpful
That rig certainly beats having to find a pond to draft from during the test.
Indeed. It's not cheap but that pond doesn't give you a computer print out of your pump's performance either.
Great memories. I lived on Hwy 90 just east of Rt 49 about 50 years ago and bought shrimp off the boats all the time. I loved it there, but where I lived is a vacant lot now.
Sadly, there are a lot of vacant lots around there.
those guns looks like 30 or 40 mm cann ons
I think they ard definitely 3"/50s. They've been through several hurricanes so there's jot much left of the mounts. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-inch/50-caliber_gun
Ice cube does work. Also the crush washer is the same thickness as a hacksaw blade. Being careful, cut into the washer, I used a Sawsall, then spray liquid wrench into the cut area. Heat with a torch use the ice cube,. Remove with a 22 MM wrench. I also hit the hex nut with a air hammer to break up any rust in the threads.
Best thing to do with the international fire trucks.dont buy one..even if given to ya lol
👌🏻 You have a good 45. I have one of those as well. It’s reliability, accuracy & practical power make it a keeper…it’s also a sexy 80’s classic! I hope you pass it on to a worthy individual once you leave this world to enjoy your eternal reward…because we will need your 45 in good hands here when you are in the hereinafter 🤗
All of these new trucks are great, the pump theory is still the same as it has been for years. I was brought up that you operate the pump, computers are fine but it is taking things away from the Engineer, if the computer goes haywire it puts the operation right back in the hands of the operator so why not just leave it in the operators hands anyway..
Excellent idea. Good advice!!
Buddy im tryin this TODAY! Dog will hunt!
Great info! Thank you 👍♥️✌️
What is the max psi
It depends on the amount of water available. If you are flowing from a hydrant, you will get much higher pressure before the pump starts to cavitate.
anything over 1000GPM from what research i've done requires dual 5 inch intakes
Cool
Thanks for posting this video. We are coming to Biloxi the week of Jan 11. Can you still get fresh shrimp in January?
It's regulated by the Dept of Marine Resources. They closed the season for north of the Intercoastal Water on New Year's Day. No idea whether the boats will go farther out or start their yearly maintenance. But the wholesaler will have some, I'm sure.
Thanks for the reply, Jasper. We're making a trip down for my wife's birthday. She loves to gamble, and I don't. But, she got 6-nights worth of free rooms, so we're making the 7-hour trip down. We were there last September, and didn't find out about the shrimp boats until we were on our way home. I thought I had read that the shrimping season ended on New Year's Day. Guess we'll have to wait until the end of May. Who is "the wholesaler"? Thanks again.
I did another video on the wholesaler. Also, some of the marinas were damaged during that last hurricane. I don't know if they've been repaired.
Nicely done, and now I'm down the rabbit hole about John Law and the Mississippi Bubble...
Outstanding, Jasper! And thanks for the intro to the USS Biloxi. I won't buy or order anything but Gulf shrimp, usually from the retail market of the local restaurants with their own boats here on the west coast of FL. Friends don't let friends buy farmed, imported shrimp.
That's all well, and good until your Computerized System goes down. I would much rather deal with the older set ups with the Relief Valves, and Standard Vernier Throttle Control. Less chance of failure on both.
0apq010
(just now seeing this)I quite agree. I prefer to control the truck myself, rather than have the truck control itself. But that ship has sailed. The truck is controlled by the computer so you really don't lose anything by having it control the pump as well. If the voltage drops, you are losing the motor, the transmission and the pump as well.
That is my fear! Anything mechanical usually gives a warning before failure. Electrical goes without warning. Usually it is a sensor or a wire connection that that faults! Of course ,if the computer is watching pressure and fails then just go with rpm mode.
You don't have a hope anyway, manual throttle cables don't exist anymore. Even the EPG with a vernier style knob has three wires that run to the engine throttle and aren't relief valves notorious for sticking ?
@ Rod Harris, I have never had any Relief Valve stick on me. Not saying they don't stick, just saying it has never happened to me. As for the throttles, this is exactly why I could, and would never want to be a Driver/Engineer in any Fire Dept today. The powers that be have destroyed the simplicity of Pump Controls, and complicated everything with any, and every possible electronically operated gadgets they can come up with, and eventually, these electronic gadgets will fail, and when they do, they render the entire Rig out of service for something that did not have to be and did not have to happen.
It would be awesome if you could do a quick lesson on transitioning from a draft to a pressurize Source while still having water flowing
I'm sorry, I'm just now seeing this. Sadly, I can't show that. Our dept is rural and while we have a few hydrants, we don't have any in a location where we can safely do training. That said, the secret is to work the valves SLOWLY and bleed the air in the supply line BEFORE opening the intake.
where is the location of the breakers
Inside the distributor. The breaker points are opened by the rotor which makes the coil fire a spark to the plug.
I wish Smith and Wesson NEVER caved to the plastic pistol craze and stop production on these tanks just for the M&P line. I have a 5906 and 4506, both early models with the squared trigger guard, and I love them. Honestly feel these guns were THE ultimate semi-auto handguns made!! They fed ALL kinds of ammunition, including 99% of reloads (operator error in manufacture not withstanding) and FIRED all of said ammunition. All with 99.9% no errors in FTF or FTE problems that most plastic guns these days have due to not liking certain ammo. To all who had concerns about the weight of these tanks, I say grow a set of balls you pussies!! They are no heavier than any 1911 chambered in 45, 9mm, .40 cal or 10mm. You know S&W did it right with these designs when the 10mm guns were the only ones that could handle old school 10mm hot loads with no problems. Sure Bren Ten could handle them...IF you could find mags for them so I don't even count them anymore. I found it amusing that it was the people, especially that FBI who couldn't handle the 10mm and thus S&W invents a new caliber .40cal and of course they had to make a handgun to go with the new caliber. That's just good marketing.
Nice. I have one too. And I kind of want to do this... just because... I can.
