No. It will never be restored. There is no will on the part of authorities to take any action to acquire or restore the cottage. There is a prominent FF government minister living locally and he doesn't seem to care. The modern house near by, now unoccupied, was built with the money earned from lease of White O Morn to Ford. The whole site and surround would have to be CPO ed, planning.sought. car and bus parking, roads, toilets, house rebuilt, and of course an abominable interpretative centre. Galway Co Co get paid.a development levy, then some bastard would find a snail or freshwater mussel and lodge an objection... Nah. Not happening

they should have fixed it up l am 74 years old now remember this little cottage from the movie reminds me of my family,,, life is just to short but love and memories go on and on.

Why didn't the Irish Government declare a compulsory purchase order and restore this cottage after declaring it a heritage site is beyond me

The original cottage does not exist, it is now just two basic ends, the walls and roof long gone, so if they tell you oh look this is it, well it is not.

An oul canopy wouldn't go astray on the trailers but otherwise I love seeing this. We had a jf single chop in the early 90's and I still miss it. Lovin the fleet of tm's as well. Great video.

Quite emotional. I was 9yrs old in 1953 and have remembered the film ever since. It was sad looking at the state of the cottage and remembering the bedroom and the main room layout with John Wayne coming up the hill calling "Woman of the house, where's my tea?! Lovely film, one of John Wayne's best and I think I've seen them all, over the years!

Great aerial footage. Thanks for posting it. Seeing how much stone has been taken by souvenir hunters or has simply fallen is shocking. Even the stone wall as you approach the cottage is rubble. I was checking in to see how the reported plans for restoration, circa 2011 then 2014, had come along. It's unfortunate the owner allowed this to happen. Is it still an American, I believe from California, who owns the property? It's baffling someone would leave it like this despite all the reports of intentions to restore it. It's a place every fan of the movie holds in their minds just as it was.

My Favorite movie, The Quiet Man. I am so happy and thankful to have visited Cong in 2008. I will never forget my visit, and hope to go back sometime soon. Absolutely loved it.

That grass is too wet for silage, no? We leave ours to wilt for a day or two depending on how dry the ground is, before putting in the clamp.

Don't be sad about this video and the original cottage. They recreated the cottage in Cong. Ireland and the city of Cong are beautiful. Watch the movie, it is so good. I believe it recreates some of the 1920's Irish customs. If you ever can go visit Ireland. Cong is north of Galway on the western side of the island. You can see the videos on youtube. We went there in 2007 and loved it. Salmon run twice a year at Cong. Some are 3 feet long. We did the city tour, a small affair but fun. If you go, watch the movie before you go.

How does the green silage not create heat and spoil? We always chopped dry hay to store like that.

Very interesting video, I'm pondering the idea of a drone for checking my own sheep. Hills here are fierce awkward with obstacles providing a lot of cover for sheep to hide from view, an aerial overview would be awful handy. Got a few questions for you if you don't mind. How is the drone in the wind? Beside the sea here so it's rarely calm. Is 10 mins it's endurance, how far would it fly in that time? How low would you need to be to make out your own brand as opposed to that of others? Not too awful far from you here in Connemara.
