Laughlin Highlands Farm

We are fourth generation farmers based in the little crossroads of Gavers, Ohio. We raise livestock sustainably and regeneratively, using non-GMO feeds and farming methodologies that reduce or eliminate the need for harmful fertilizers and pesticides.
Custom Grazing Dairy Cows - Trees for Graziers
We finally left the farm for a day! Mary and I attended the 2025 Ohio Grazing Conference in Mt. Hope, Ohio. Definitely a worthwhile trip if you are in the area and are interested in regenerative agriculture and ranching.
In this segment, I interview Joshua from Trees for graziers. He has some really good insight on custom grazing dairy cows.
Thank you @treesforgraziers2878 !!

Great video, I never knew anyone was doing that.
when was the conf? where is it advertised? when is the next one?
I will put the link to the conference in the description. It is held annually in Mt. Hope, OH at the Mt. Hope auction event center. It is a great show!
Thank you for the video. I have considered the RPS systems for years. I see the pumps are commonly on sale. Could you do a follow up on the cost breakdown of getting the system installed? You lead me to believe there is a lot more to it than just the initial pump kit purchase.
That's a great idea. I will definitely have to do that.
Nice setup. I run a Cycle 12 Joule off batteries year round in Canada and it works great. If you switch to a Victron Smartsolar 100/20 charge controller and a 300watt - 550watt solar panel it should cover your needs and not have to anymore charging. Will only charge your batteries at 288 watts at the highest rate, but being overpanelled covers for dim days to keep it at 288 watts at most times. Look around and you can get a big panel for pretty cheap.
That's some good advice - thank you! The issue that I have run into lately is finding racking for larger single panels. There isn't a great source it seems unless I look on ebay, etc. which always makes me nervous.
Great video!
Looking good
Look at you with the rootrake bucket 👍
FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥😂
What did you do to your nose?
An errant thorn tried to take it off. Darn multiflora!
If you can pls bring us along as you clear down to the water.
Grandpa would be so proud!
Good to see you back, have a Happy New Year🙌
glad to see you back from the holidays. Happy Prosperous New Year
Ever had any problems with the wind blowing it over?
I have not actually! The shade cloth allows most of the wind to pass through, and we get some crazy stiff winds living up on a hill. There isn't a lot of weight up top, so the entire assembly is very stable. We live in the foothills of the appalachians, so we are constantly traversing hills and we have had no issues.
It’s to keep 7.3 diesels alive, they don’t like starting in cold weather so they are trying to get rid of winter lol
Piston rings don’t sound too good.
Incorrect
I miss you guys!!
Do you leave your Sun Shade out all winter or bring it up to the farm.
Hey! We leave it out but we take off the shade cloth. Otherwise it gets beat around pretty badly by the wind.
@@laughlinhighlandsfarm okay makes a lot of sense. BTW Have a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
@@ronaldharmon9891 You as well! We will be back with videos this week. We have been enjoying the break.
FEMA only Came for 1 day to do application then never saw them again! They Didn’t help here either, ONLY help we had was from People who donated their time and resources🙏😇😇😇. A lot of us are still without homes and haven’t been able to afford to get our house repaired if still standing. Makes no sense FEMA will pay for hotel rooms but not help you fix your home . I know God is a loving God and we all wonder why God allows bad things to happen . I know it’s to bring us closer to him.
😂
Great video. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
I wondered where I got that trait from. Mountain strong. My people came from the Appalacians & it is very hard to accept anything from anybody. I figure God has always provided so He will again. I'm down in the flat lands now. But my heart is in those mountains.
We are in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains here in Ohio. Yessir! I understand completely as well.
That cow really wanted to be heard in the video
They always want to be heard! 😂
Cool. Do the posts have points or are they blunt tipped.
They are blunt ends. They just drive right in (believe it or not)
WOW, at first I thought "Did he buy a hoof trimming machine" (tons of $ infrastructure) then I realized a mobile unit👍
I will leave the trimming to the experts! We have enough equipment that needs maintenance! It was super cool to see though. Cassie is doing much, much better as well. She didn't like having long hooves...
All the channels we watch with animals this is the first we've seen do sorting of🐑, WOW very cool.
The primary reason I see to not use square bales is driving a heavy vehicle in he field to disperse it, that's why I think the Greg Judy Bale unroller is the ticket.
We agree! We were just talking about this the other day. The squares are convenient from a storage perspective, but getting them into the field would cause a lot of wear and tear on the field itself with the heavy equipment (especially with the wet winters we get in Ohio).
Don’t call cats A-holes. Not cool.
Thanks for the tour. Bango is the star of this video.
Meeting you in person this week was the highlight of my month. Thank you for the great videos.
lol!
Just wondering…. Couldn’t.. or shouldn’t… there be a way to mount a mineral feeder onto the frame? Just moving 2 things with 1 pull?
We have definitely given it some thought. Right now, we have the mineral feeder chained to the back of the running gear so that it drags behind the shade mobile when we move it. It would be nice to mount it in the middle, but it weighs about 1000 lbs and the center pipe is only 2.5" OD, so we would have too much deflection. For now dragging works well, but I would love to hang it the back of the running gear somehow! A future engineering project for sure. Thank you for watching!
Animals should be allowed to move around and eat grass, not get kept in huge barns and fed on corn etc.
We agree 100% !!! Check out the rest of our channel. All of our animals are 100% grass fed and on pasture in a managed intensive grazing program. We just had them in the corral so that we could have the vet vaccinate the calves.
I didn't realize this was going to turn out to be a Biblical cosmology video but it did. Awesome , thanks for sharing the Book of Job.
how many ewes do you currently have. are you selling any ewe lambs
Hi Craig - thank you for watching us! We currently have just under 50 ewes. We sell stock starting in July/ August each year as that is when the lambs are old enough to move on to another farm. If you are interested in stock, fill out the contact form on our website (www.laughlinhighlandsfarm.com/pages/contact) and we will add you to our list!
nice series
Thank you!
There's a reason why Scripture says mortal kingdoms belong to Satan.
Good info!
Just found your channel and I love the work you did in putting this information out. I appreciate the honesty you shared. I think that the story of what happened in the states hit by Helene is important and needs to be discussed. Prayers and love going to each and everyone hit by the storms this year. ❤🙏🏻
Yes, I think this was a very informative video of what a random farm day looks like. You can never second-guess what’s going to happen, but you can always count on the fact that your plans will change!
I used to live in burnsville and ingalls community, i worked in micaville. I haven't been there in 29 years. I'm praying for all my former neighbors.
The best way to peel the round bales I've found is make sure you get the bottom peeled first. Otherwise each layer will leave more on the bottom making each layer harder to peel.
We will definitely have to try that! Thank you for watching. Have a blessed day!
You'll never get all the things done you planned to.
It’s never ending. But it keeps us out of the bars
When I bought my farm, I knew I was buying a lifetime of projects!!
we don't eat them. we are not French. haha
🇫🇷
Love it!
Safety is no accident. The world needs John Davis in it.
You never looked better John.
Do you suggest rubbing the bird with duck or chicken fat before seasoning, vs. butter? I ask because I saw this suggested in another video about roasting a heritage turkey, so wonder if you’ve tried it?
We have not, but that sounds tremendous! Fat is the important part. Specifically, extremely high quality fat. That’s where you get the browning effect and the herb retention. If it works for your process, go for it and report back :) For the record, my wonderful wife prefers the duck fat over the chicken fat.
Thank you for serving Yahs people, thank you for sharing this video and thank you for reading Yah’s infallible Scriptures. Love the book of Yov. Heart wrenching 😢
👋👍👏well said, slow and steady is always best
Love the farm. You’re doing a good thing following Gods will for you John. Proud to know you.
