This video is for those who are just starting out in photography or videography. We'll be testing this budget-friendly lens that could be an ideal first purchase-the Viltrox 40mm f2.5 autofocus lens for full-frame Sony cameras. Priced at around 650 PLN, it doesn't require a fortune to start taking great photos. But is it really worth its price? You'll find out in just a moment.
The lens is very compact and lightweight, weighing only 167 grams-almost as much as it costs in dollars! It's small enough to fit in any, even the smallest bag, or even a pocket. If you don't want to carry heavy gear, this lens will be a great choice. It's easy to use and won't weigh you down during work.
The build quality can be a bit divisive because it is mostly made of plastic, which I'm not a fan of, but don't worry-this plastic is durable and feels good in the hand. Personally, I prefer to feel the lens attached to the camera, but on the other hand, such a lightweight gear is a refreshing change. The mount is the only visible metal part, providing a solid connection to the camera, although at this weight, duct tape could hold it. Viltrox has also added a USB-C port, so firmware updates are possible, and I'd highly recommend doing so when available. The only thing missing in this lens is weather sealing, so be careful in the rain, but at this price, it's hard to expect everything.
I tested it in various lighting conditions, and it always performed well. The corners of the image are a bit soft at f2.5, and while the center is sharp, it is slightly matte, so blacks are not fully black. However, at f5.6, sharpness improves across the entire frame. For a lens in this price range, the detail in the photos is truly impressive and will help you gain confidence as you learn.
Chromatic aberrations are often a problem with cheaper lenses, but this Viltrox handles them quite well. In extreme conditions, aberrations start to appear, but they are minimal. They certainly won't interfere with photography, and they won't be visible in videography at all.
If you're shooting against the light, this lens will show what it's capable of. I have to admit that I'm a bit biased because I love lens flares, but not everyone likes them. In my opinion, they add a unique atmosphere and distinctiveness.
The autofocus in this lens is another strong point. It is fast, accurate, and reliable. Whether you're shooting a moving subject or something static, this lens will do the job. You don't have to worry about missing a shot due to slow autofocus, but remember that this aspect largely depends on the camera you're using.
I think the Viltrox 40mm f2.5 is a great lens, especially at this price point. It’s not perfect, but what lens doesn't have flaws? This one is sharp, controls aberrations well, has accurate autofocus, and is lightweight and compact. If you're just starting out in photography or videography and looking for a lens that is easy to use and won't break the bank, this is a great choice for you! It might not replace more expensive lenses, but as a first lens, it's a really good choice.
If you found this review helpful, leave a like under the video, and if not, leave a comment and tell me why. As always, I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments, and in the meantime, remember that everything you do matters and that you are valuable!

    5x 4TB drives in a Raid5 would only be 16TB storage with one drive redundancy…. just fyi

    • @photocineshots
      @photocineshots 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well yes and no. With RAID 0, you get 20TB of storage but no redundancy, which is Tam's point in this short clip. Using RAID 5, as you mentioned, the usable storage is 16TB. You might enjoy the full interview: th-cam.com/video/HNk2WKmSXoI/w-d-xo.html

      I agree. In the full interview, we discussed having multiple small NAS devices set up as backups and using this model as an external drive for editing. However, if I were going for a single unit, I would absolutely choose redundancy within the unit.

      The pleasure is all mine! The conversation with the QNAP team was incredibly insightful. I really enjoy geeking out every so often. The TBS-H574TX model is fascinating and seems like a fantastic solution for many challenges, especially for filmmakers and photographers. Combined with larger units, it creates a robust and easy-to-use infrastructure for fast and efficient work.

    Loved the video. Hey man, any recommendations for a long focal length lens for the Sony A6000. Intended usage is a combo of wildlife and sports. I'm happy to spend a little more. Would really appreciate your recommendations.

      Hi there! For your Sony A6000, here are a few long focal length lenses that are great for wildlife and sports: Sony E 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 G OSS: Awesome image quality, fast autofocus, and stabilization. Perfect for both wildlife and sports: amzn.to/3KL4zep Sony E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS: Budget-friendly with decent reach and performance, though not as sharp as the 70-350mm: amzn.to/3RthvJE Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS: A bit heavier but offers great reach and image quality, ideal for detailed wildlife shots: amzn.to/3Rwlhlr Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD: Affordable with good performance and lightweight, good for both wildlife and sports: amzn.to/3VLjcUj If you're willing to spend a bit more, the 70-350mm or Sigma 100-400mm would be awesome choices!

      He had to talk about it this way.. :) I see exactly where you guys are coming from, his role is to make sure everything in media about Nikon is shown in the best possible light. Notice how he didn't agree with me that better/larger glass means better optics but at the same time the newer lenses are better :)
