My father was just like James. I was born in 1970, so I remember watching this show before I hit double digits. My father was a SGT. Major in the army. He was serious when it came to studying. A friend of mine came over and misbehaved in HIS house. My father took off his belt and whooped his butt for acting up. He told him to go home and tell his parents what he did. My father gave permission to all my teachers to whoop my butt if I acted up in class. I didn't like it at the time, but I like to think I turned out ok because of his actions. He passed 2 years ago before Thanksgiving. Kids scared today to take a butt whooping or an ass kicking. Settle everything with a gun.

R.I.P. John Amos. You were a great influence to us kids showing great discipline from the older generation. Sadly the younger ones don't know anything about this nature from the past when they wanna break curfew on school nights nowadays.

This should NOT have been the series finale for Roc, as the Andre character had all sorts of story arcs that could've elevated this show even further. Even as a "redeemed" character, his issues with William Long, his old neighborhood that he used to terrorize, finding something to do that helps others legitimately even if the pay is tiny compared to drugs, Clifton Powell could've won awards with his cold realness vs. the comedy stuff he did later.

Fox did in fact promote the hell out of this show. They even made a big deal about taping it live with no retakes. It always had heart but like religion, you can't cram it down peoples throats like junk food. People needed to find it on their own because they wanted it. Roc was great but he was always "on" if you catch my drift. You can only take so much of his "message"
