My hometown doesn’t support anyone that’s trying to be self sufficient and support themselves. They will do anything in their power to sabotage their progress and even cause them to lose their homes they’re trying to purchase and tell them to go live in low income housing then…my hometown has been over run by sociopathic people that use vigilante style law enforcement based on personal biases and assumptions…if a junkie says something bad about someone…they take it as the gospel truth. It’s shameful. I will be homeless and 6’ under if they get their way because of something someone said I did ….i wasted so much time going to college and working to get out of poverty only to have these lunatics with simple minds take it and throw it in a shredder…I moved away…they called the next community to warn them about me…so it’s basically no other out come that’s beneficial to me…they want me gone. Period!

The price of a place to live is crazy. There is no way I could afford a place on my own. I think rules are the least of the problems. It's greed.

By the way, we also don't want to forget that a lot of unhoused people DO have jobs. www.washingtonpost.com/business/2024/07/28/homeless-lack-of-affordable-housing-economy/

renting incredibly difficult because if you need to afford life you have to move. Two years is the longest I've stayed somewhere.for a lot of us it’s you can afford it this year you can’t next year.

The fee should b paid for by county, township or borough. Like she said a fee for ppl to b housed under possibility. Low income families should b exempt from this. There r dishonest landlords that would just keep that fee and never use it

Tell me about it! I live this. Corporate landlords have taken over Albuquerque's rental market. My apartment got bought out in the pandemic and it has not had any reasonable maintenance since. We went from 50% occupancy to 99% and they doubled our rent😢

Thank you for bringing this to light. Seeing how these policies influence our lives today is so important. Especially how little has been done to correct racist policies. Of course your work here is important and if it doesn't spark acknowledgement from the community and especially legislators, Des Moines doesn't have the right to claim progressivism in the way that many think it does. Of course, I'll be happy to hear if this sentiment is misguided. But Des Moines needs to walk the progressive walk.
