I Made a Birdhouse for Blue Jays | Japanese-Style
I've had this birdhouse build on my mind for SO long... and I'm really happy that I was able to complete it. As soon as we catch some birds going in, I'll be posting that as well 😁!
Hope you enjoy!

Which app do your use for 3d modeling?
I use Rhino :-)
(Tip from other videos about your kind of planing jig); by putting the side on top, you also avoid the screws "lifting" sligyhtly the bottom so the router des a small bump each time it passes over a screw. Good luck!
These and the japanese tansu are such beautiful pieces of history. I found a tansu on marketplace that I absolutely love. Cleaned it up as best as I could, and I just found out someone donated a korean one to my sisters work. Sadly, the chest did not come with the key, and they have been trying to open it all day. She showed me a picture and i was immediately like please dont cut it off. It just needs some oil and someone who knows how to open the lock. Sadly, there aren't many videos of how to fix the lock once its stuck due to age.😢
Kinda if funny but yea we all do stuff like that from time to time
100% and it makes you laugh at the end of the day 😂
I approve this birdhouse & this video! Don't believe everything you hear about blue jays btw. 😆😂💙🐦
Thank you so much!!! Glad you liked the birdhouse!
Wow, that looks really good. Looks like all the careful planning paid off
It sure did! It was a lot of work and definitely worth it!
Those are really cool table legs.
more tape. got it 👍
That looks so good with that stain and grain combo
My Friend, this “bougie•bird house build was completely over the top! I loved the creativity and thought it would be a fantastic lantern. Thanks for the share
Ahaha thank you so much! And I appreciate that you enjoyed watching the video 😁🙌
Wow that is so beautiful..you did an amazing job ..
Thank you so much!! 🙏🙏🙏
👍
Y r y 👍
The birdhouse is beautiful! And, by the way, I was watching your "I'm such an Introvert" video in which you said that you were a sculptor and pottery artist. I had the thought that you could make wooden ribs and sculpting tools for clay...just a thought...I enjoy your humor and mad skills...!
That is a good idea! I haven't been able to play with clay for a minute but I know I can make all my clay tools if I get back into it 😁🙌 I appreciate that you enjoyed the video!!
(chants) One of us! Please allow me to be a resource on anything you need.
That looks really good, the natural colour borders on the drawers are a nice touch.
Thank you! Cheers!
Cherry and walnut are better than maple. Maple is tougher at withstanding cuts, but maintaining it is harder. It shrinks and expands more than the other two when conditions aren't great. Maple will crack more. I don't like chopping on a dark board so I prefer cherry.
What a beautiful bird house. I build mostly furniture and after building several large pieces, I always find it peaceful and relaxing to do something small like a jewelry box and really take my time with it and make it something special. It helps me to relax and be patient with myself when doing larger projects. Not to mention that these antique back muscles appreciate the break from lugging 12 ft boards of 8/4 walnut around the shop.
Oh my gosh I can feel the weight of walnut through your words! I didn't think a small scale project could be as equally challenging and rewarding as what I'd feel from a large scale project. This was such a fun project to realize that from and like you said, it gives a peacefulness that I tend to have less from large projects. Thank you for commenting!
Figure-8 the wire around the split duct and hang it. All one wire length...one or two hanging anchor points...for....just in case extra safe, right? 😉 \ b
did you vet the birds moving into this birdhouse you dont want any riff raff messing up that lovely crafted house 10/10
In defense of bluejays...We have a few chickens that we let free range in our yard during the day. Recently when I went outside in the late afternoon to put the chickens back into their run, I witnessed a bunch of blue jays very loudly harassing a HAWK that was stalking my chickens, Thankfully my chickens were smart enough to lay low in some tall plants and the hawk hadn't been able to get to them. I have a new appreciation for the blue jays, even if they do bully the other birds at the bird feeder.
chatgpt 🤮 you can do better than that
Do we have Japanese Blue Jay's here? Haha
Very nice birdhouse. Two questions: 1. Is black going to make a bit of a solar oven especially out in direct sun like that--maybe place under some foliage? 2. A dowel or branch extending perpendicularly from the entry hole might be appreciated by the birds?
Watching you create such beautiful pieces is great. I admire your patience with the legs. One question, though, what was your solution for seasonal wood expansion and contraction?
Started making some bird houses recently and thought I was doing nice work. Maybe I did but not nearly on your level Clara. Beautiful bird house.
Nice detailed description of India ink, but why would you not mention if it's actually safe for birds?! Most people inspired by this wonderful project won't bother/be able to source it, but will go ahead and use an alternative - which may or may not be harmful to wildlife. By omitting that detail, I fear some won't know that it should even be a consideration.
was thinking exact same thing. we get it: great design, competent build (as ever), slick video edit... but does she have any intention of providing shelter for birds and leaving this piece of art to the elements?
@@loadsaleibs A bit harsh, but I get your point - I think. Just felt this was a missed opportunity to communicate an important message
Don't believe anything ChatGPT tells you. It lies more than Donald Trump and Boris Johnson combined. If you challenge it on what it tells you then it changes its mind to please you.
Nice to see traditional Japanese making ... with Festool.
Astonishing! I noticed two great ideas I will use in my next audacity project.
Beautiful job, and beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.
Wow what a beauty! Love this project. Fantastic video
Sublime. 💛💜💛
The people who are the most different are the most interesting. Don't ruin yourself by trying to fit in. The secret to success is sincerity once you can fake that you've got it made.
The birdhouse is really beautiful and a fantastic piece of carpentry. What I don't like so much is the thin wood. For the chicks (cave nesters) it is important that there is always a fairly constant temperature in the nest, neither too warm nor too cold. In nature, this results from the relatively thick walls of the nest. When we humans build a nest, we have to be careful to create similar conditions. Interior size, size of the entrance hole, and also the insulation. Given their design, this could be solved by inserting a simple box made of untreated, local wood inside. The box can also be a little rough on the inside on the entry wall, this gives the claws a little better grip. You also have to be careful with paint and glue. Much of it is highly toxic to animals. Some birds still peck at the opening because they don't like something yet and most birds often rub their beaks on the outside of the wall to shake off leftover food. Toxic components of the paint are absorbed. The best colors are that are also suitable for babies, so you can't go wrong with them.
Очень красиво, но ветром сдует.
To extend those notches combine your pull saw to cut the sides and a multitool to trim the wood it wood have taken you just a few minutes
This has to be one of the most beautiful birdhouses I've ever seen!
Beautiful! you and the birdhouse
How does this not have more views.
this is great, thanks! magpie's are jerks too haha. loved that you included the design process too
You say , “voila” like a native French speaker.
Clara, nice design, and yeah... take a moment or two to observe those bluejays... they're d**kheads. I don't have a fun fact for you, but I'll applaud your use of the toothpicks as dowels. I've done similar using bamboo skewers you find at [fill in a name] supermarket. They fit perfectly in a 1/8th hole tho they're likely metric, so you can glue the snot outta them. Also, they come in the skinny size as well as bbq-gauge. They're nice and long, too. Recommend getting a pair of nippers rather than trying to saw them or boxcutter them... much faster.
I don't know why it's so funny to hear that blue jays are buttheads 🤣 Thanks for sparking ideas on different types of skewers and nippers to cut them off. That sounds much better than cutting these toothpicks with a box cutter
Thanks for making us this cozy little wooden cave for all our webs and eggs. Sincerely, The spiders
The project is great, and as always what you do is informative and interesting to watch. But this time I was struct by something you've probably never heard before. Your penmanship is really beautiful. I went to Catholic School from 1st through 6th grade😎😎 and let me tell you...the Nuns would have loved it. They were very big on penmanship, and yours it really artistic and easily readable.
That is definitely something I rarely hear from others! I think the last time anyone told me about my handwriting is when I was 14 😂 Thank you!
That's such a cool looking bird house
Thank you so much!! 😁🙏🙏🙏
As a drummer, I love watching luthier videos! Love the intricacies and the geometry in some.
immediate subscribe. this is exactly what I have been looking for. recently decided I wanted to make a Free Little Library in a similar style. this gave me some motivation to get started. amazing build.
Are you building one for your neighborhood? That's so nice of you and have you got to start on the Library? Also, thank you so much for enjoying the video!
Wooow what’s the measurements?
