I have a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree in Anthropology, a Master of Science in Biology, and a professional certificate in microbiology for the food and drug industries. I presented my thesis at The International Human Rights Conference for Stateless Peoples, on the topic of indigenous influences on global medicine, and I work with specialists at farms and laboratories.

We made it to Uncle Robert's Awa Bar just before sundown. They played my dad's favorite song, and it was their first time playing it. I cried. Kalapana, Hawaii Island.

We fly along the legendary northern coast of Kauai and see the unbelievably deep, fluted erosion from countless years of rain shadow. There are tunnels and sea caves going into the island, and it looks like a living, sleeping, ancient creature.

We fly around the mountain, which is the rainiest place on Earth for most weeks of the year, then we fly into the ancient volcano crater. This is like the birthplace of the island and one of the most incredible locations I have witnessed in my lifetime. The deep, old, fluted erosion from so much rainfall over the millennia is unlike anything I've ever seen.

Lifting off from Lihue Airport campus on the southeastern edge of the island, you can see the runways, then the city of Lihue, which is the most developed part of the island, by far, as well as its administrative seat. Kauai: Alaka'i Swamp Flood (2/2)

This is the boardwalk through the lower, flooded portion of the Alaka'i Swamp, on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii, ending at Kilohana Lookout on the north of the island. It is the highest altitude swamp in the world and one of the rainiest areas in the world most of the year, with some of the most rare and unique endemic plants of Kauai.

Here is a video of the early part of my day in the unflooded portion of Alakaʻi, the highest altitude swamp on Earth, with mostly endangered and endemic plant species of Kauai. This was at the end of May, 2023, following the boardwalk from the direction of Pihea Ridge Trail. It was unbelievably peaceful, and I'm thankful for the visit.
