John Packer JP041 Alto Sax Review/Repairman's Overview
In this video I take a look at the John Packer JP041 Alto Sax.
Available now at my store, Raymond Music: www.raymondmusic.com/john-packer-jp041-eb-alto-sax.html
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with this sax! It appears to be a copy of a Yanagisawa and carries over a number of nice design features from them. It played better than I expected out of the box and worked great once I fixed up a couple of leaks.
This would be a great option for a student or intermediate player looking for something that will last them a while, but isn't as expensive as the name-brands.
Update: I contacted my JP rep and was able to get a replacement rod for the Eb/C key so that issue is resolved!

Roland TD-1DMK Electronic Drum Set Review/Overview
มุมมอง 1.9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I take a look at the Roland TD-1DMK Electronic Drum Set. This is my first drum kit that I got to learn the basics of drumming. This is a great kit for beginners or someone who needs a small footprint from their kit. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get it to record to my computer, so I don't have any playing examples but here's a few you can check out: th-cam.com/video/HKXqWVWjs-g/...
Buying Over 70 Instruments from Closing Music Store!
มุมมอง 3272 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I head out on an adventure with my friend Jonathan to buy some broken horns from a store that was closing down. There were about 70 instruments or so in total and it was quite the day trying to get everything loaded, brought back, and sorted before it got dark.
Schiller Bass Flute Review/Overview
มุมมอง 2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is my review/overview of the Schiller Bass Flute. It's pitched in C and sounds and octave below the more common concert flute. I re-padded this one with bassoon/saxophone pads since they were readily available and much cheaper and easier to install than regular flute-styled pads. It plays surprisingly well although a few notes in the midrange are difficult to get out. More information on b...
Wurlitzer Soprano Saxophone in C (Martin Stencil)
มุมมอง 1.8K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This Wurlitzer soprano sax recently came across my bench at Nick Rail Music in Santa Barbara and wanted to share. It was re-lacquered and engraved previously and looks really great. This instrument is a stencil that I believe is made by Martin and is in the not-so-common key of C
Contralto Clarinet Review/Overview
มุมมอง 6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a review/overview of the Contralto Clarinet. It is pitched in Eb and is pitched between the Bass Clarinet and Contrabass Clarinet. These instruments are primarily used in larger orchestras and are generally easier to play than the Contrabass Clarinet

Could I email you? I ask because I am interested in having saxophone pads installed on my Schiller bass flute too.
how long is it and if my marching band only has tenor trombones should I get a contra bass or just a normal bass. also is it harder to hit high notes compared to a normal bass.
Would love to see a review of the JP tenor too
If you need a bass trombone and don’t wanna spend an absolute insane amount of money on a getzen or shires. This will do completely fine, sounds great for a low price bass trombone. personally prefer hangman valves but that is really nit picky.
Is there one in the key of Bb?
for Ergonoic, I think , it's the same as King 7B bad
The Instrument Man It doesn't sound quite as stuffy as a Standard Valve Trombone.
3:57 Johannes Rochut Melodious Etude No. 2.
I recognized that immediately too. I've played that more times than I care to count.
The Valves do give it that Juan Tizol Vibe but you can use the Main Slide to correct the intonation which is something that not alot of musicians thought about.
Save up and find a good used Holton Superbone
Not worth it
@@harleyzeth What’s your recommendation?
@@Arthur-hg7ny If you're REALLY wanting a superbone, get the one made by Wessex. I've played both quite a bit, and the Wessex sounds far better for a fraction of the price. The Holton is way more comfortable to hold, but sounds really stuffy no matter what. Superbones in general are a very gimmicky instrument, the valves are going to be stuffy no matter what even compared to a regular valve trombone. I really like them though because I'm left handed, and besides French Horn, they're the only left handed valved instrument. As much as I like them, I can't justify the price for how bad they sound compared to every single other trombone I've played. They sound like a straight small bore tenor trombone if it somehow had an even smaller bore.
They actually make excellent full size tubas and euphonium. I am very happy with my Fedtivo euphonium.
Horn intonation is poor
How tall are you/ how tall is the contralto clarinet?
😱😱😱 Out of tune, forget it !!!
Bro forgor about Wessex.
Thank you, it was really helpful. I'm looking forward to buy my first sax.
Great video, superb content. Saxophone videos are my thing, it's very entertaining and interesting to me. Regarding the "cheap Chinese junk" comment, it's been a while since they made saxophones that belong in that category I'd say😊 Some might still be of questionable quality of course. Anyway, I have Selmer's and Yamaha's, and 4 inexpensive Chinese horns as well, newer ones. They no doubt hold up very well compared to the expensive brands😊 They seal well, played right out of the box. They seem to be well built, they sound good, little play etc. Quality has increased the last few years.
How is that particular horn playing after 3 years?
I actually don't have it anymore. One of the valves warped after I dropped it and there was no way to repair it. Replacement parts aren't available either so another tech ended up using the remaining pieces to build something else
Hello, I was wondering how this mendini superbone has held up 2 years later. would you say it's worth buying? I have a low budget and would like something to play on to build my skill until I can buy an actual quality horn
It's just been sitting in storage for the last few years. There's no reason to play it and it's not a good instrument. Definitely don't buy it, or any superbone for that matter, if you plan to play it in any sort of serious context.
@@theinstrumentman7429 not even holtons superbone?
I've heard even those aren't very good. If you want to play a trombone, play a trombone. If you want to play a baritone, play a baritone. There's a reason the superbone isn't common!
@@theinstrumentman7429 damn, what about valve only trombones?
Those can be alright, but still not great. They're also not generally accepted in contexts other than mariachi bands. Again, if you want to play trombone, play trombone. If you want to play baritone, play baritone
I bought the Bundy 1440 today for 1300€!
if you have garageband you have access to all their midi drum kits to make it fully customizable
Don Ellis also played on a Holton superbone if memory serves me right
Where did you buy this Tuba?
Awesome vid but can u put some timelines? Thx very much!
anybody know the height? (not the length of the tubing, but how tall it is)
About 190-230 centimeters
@@FearInGlock really? I thought the contrabass was the 6 foot tall one
@@tdawggrayson Contrabass clarinet in BBb is about six feet, yeah
@@giganerd896 do you know for the Eb contra?
I have one olds ambassador with slide and Valves desmontable
I've been playing this for 15 years. Everything is fine.
I’d like to buy some stuff from you. Let me know
I'm using most of it for me new music store currently, but I've still got plenty of horns I could sell. Check out what I've got at raymondmusic.com and my contact info is there as well
Moving that hand around in the bell can help with tuning a little bit.
It’s getting there. A little outta tune, and try and lay back a little. Kinda right on top of the beat.
Y encima tocar con la izquierda, la tontería más inútil...
What kind of mouthpiece did it come with?
It didn't come with one since I got it used
First of all, I'm writing the spanish version after the English version, not sure which language I'm supposed to be writing in. I bought my TD-1 V Drums 2 years or something ago, I have been wanting to use them with my computer, to record and stream but I have no idea how to do it, I've been asking friends and they also don't know how. So please help, tell me if I need a program or what, I have understanding that one needs to download a controler or something and the computer will recognise the drums but I don't know where to find said controller/plugin or whatever. Hope you can help me, Andrea.
Late response but, maybe if you type in how to link your roland kit to a DAW software (there are free ones to use such as reaper) and take it from there.
276th sub
Really useful video, thanks!! I live in a 3rd floor apartment and I'm thinking of getting this kit but I fear the neighbours downstairs will suffer from the bass drum :(
The shoulder cannon
You look like Ben Shapiro
Thanks for an interesting video.
It's about the size of my Indian euphonium.
Those are the Trombones that Mexican Bandas use
Wow! I wish you could have some how made this 6 years ago before I bought mine. Don't get me wrong, a sub $500 (at the time) double valve bass is an awesome find but... So, the ergonomics critique is spot on. I've tried the Neo Tech brace but it does not paly well with this horn. I'm going to seek out a bullet brace. And where the triggers are located, you and I must have similar hand size because those are exactly my findings - the F trigger is too far away and the Gb is just out of reach. But overall, it sounds good and can bark in the low register. A good horn if you have a tech that can work on it (which, 6 years later, I still need to do). And I had to add a counterweight to the tuning slide to balance the back a bit.
i guess with a trombone mouthpiece it would better, specially the low tones. These huge tuba pot is too much for the tiny little tube.
Good idea
Maybe a euphonium mouthpiece instead, just to keep a warmer tone.
The roughness and noise of the slide may be due to them not polishing it to a high degree. Many years ago I bought a Bach 42BGO, new from a major dealer. The slide was so rough it felt like paint overspray so I sent it back. The replacement was the same. After several phone calls including a couple to Bach I found out that when CFC solvents were phased out the replacements took much longer to clean parts. To save time and solvent they only lapped the stockings, so ALL the horns came out like mine. The slide eventually wore in and was smooth and quiet. So yours may get smoother and quieter. You might think about taking a Styrofoam florists cone and sand it to fit the throat of you bass bone. Then you could use it to compare throat size and taper of other horns, because it makes such a difference in sound. Cheap is always an attraction.
That's interesting. I'm sure a decent cleaning would've done it some good too. Although you shouldn't sand or lap a trombone slide. A cleaning with some Texas Flush would've helped as well but sometimes, a bad slide is just a bad slide. I didn't want to work on it at the time since I was just evaluating it as-is
@@theinstrumentman7429 Cleaning didn't help mine, only playing it quite often for a few weeks. I'm not sure how long because I got used to it and didn't notice exactly when it smoothed up. I know one complaint of the cheap bones is slide alignment.
Glad to know we have Tom Cruise in the low brass
the valve trombone are popular in mexico
Sounds Great keep it up man (:
Love the video! That’s super cool to get so many fun instruments! As a violinist and french horn player, I’m quite curious about the violins and horns…….I’m excited to see some more videos!
The violins ended up being nothing special but someone picked them up for their band program. I think the most noteworthy French horn was a Miraphone which had the cool metal linkages like their tubas do. I'm planning to do a series on my personal collection of instruments soon so stay tuned!
@@theinstrumentman7429 gotcha, wow that’s super cool! Yeah, totally looking forward to it!
really neat! :0
