LA Union Station & Eerie Downtown LA
มุมมอง 70หลายเดือนก่อน
A walk-through of LA's iconic Union Station and then a roughly east-to-west walk across desolate downtown LA to my hotel. Stunningly devoid of street life along the way, it made for an eerie, dystopian experience despite it being another sunny, perfect weather day in the capital of Southern California.

Just happened to be in Zurich the weekend of the Men's and Women's UCI (Union Cyclists Internationale) World Championship in late September, 2024. The women had it tough on Saturday, riding in the rain, while the men rode in much better conditions on Sunday. The women's winner was from Belgium while the first runner-up was from the U.S. The men's winner, Tadej Pogacar from Slovenia, won the tri...

Thanks for this Chris! I grew up in Ottawa in the 60s through the early eighties. Some things have changed, many still the same. I live on the West coast now and don't get back there very often. It's great to see those streets i used to ride my bicycle on, all over that town. The world is a big place, and I've lived in Massachusetts, Florida, Tennessee, Germany and Nevada. But Ottawa is where i got my start. Born in Ryburn hospital, directly across the street from Washington park (there's a bank there now.) My roots are in that town, but up in the branches the views are endless and more to my liking.
I did fuel tank inspections and did the Casey's gas stations in all of these towns every month. Left that job about 6 months ago and miss it dearly. Always loved driving up and down that river road. Nice to see parts of the towns that I didn't get to see. That was my hard week, left from Clinton Iowa and went all the way down to Troy Missouri and back up and around Illinois and back up to Clinton doing all those Casey's and Cricke K's plus the Sam's Club in Quincy. Usually managed to get it done in 3 very long days just to avoid extra hotel nights! Not much time for exploring but I remember stopping at the Jail in Carthage and getting some photos. Thanks for the adventure!
Thank you. This is fabulous video and observation. Atlantic City's vista for sunrises in the east is unparalleled, I testify.
Nice room!
sorry you are incorrect the port jervis line goes into Secaucus then you take the train to NYC it arrives at Penn station. The station is near the Burger King.
Nick, I was looking for the Americans and the British but everybody was going by so fast! I did note one guy was Irish because he was all alone and going uphill which slowed everybody down a little. Otherwise, it was a blur 😅
Nice! Lucky you, world's is usually something special and Zurich was a great race, even if Pogacar dominated it. I think the three Americans at 11:29 are Matteo Jorgensen, Brandon McNulty and Kevin Vermaerke, followed by Jai Hindley of Australia.
..garbage swiss peopels..make money on nazis gold..bleah !
Nice 👍
Flood of 1955 is why the flood protection was developed
They moved that original Danbury Depot Train station. From where TrackSide is currently. I believe the historical society as well as quite a few donors saved it from being torn down so they could build now Current Trackside Bar and Restaurant. And yes they still run freight on those tracks.
yes you should eat at the Brickyard :)
Yes this is the Grit that you remember
You should have started at the corner of Elmira & W.4th Street with the A D Hermance house and then walked west - it's the best way to do it. I live in the AD Hermance Mansion for a year -

Work has begun on restoring the Middletown O&W train station!
@@JohnDiGiorgio-e2p Oh I’d like to see a picture of that! That’s great news.
@@BillKing3456 Yeah, the town won a huge grant. The restoration might make good content for your channel. I'll be back up that way this weekend. I'll see what I can do photo-wise.
The old Shop Rite is becoming an Aldi.
I'm originally from Davenport. The QC has great potential but never lives up to it
@@tonymorrell2353 I was wondering about that. It does have great potential.
Ah yes time to learn more about a city I have never heard of.
The house you see at minutes 30:40 of this video is an ABB we stayed at this summer. Right across from the Temple. Wonderful place to stay.
@@scottfoss716 great to hear 👍
This is the first of your videos that i have seen and i must say that i was pleasantly surprised by the research and time that you invested as well as the logical and interesting presentation style. Upon reviewing the other videos on your channel i noted that many are about trains, a topic of great interest to me; needless to say, i have subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching many more of your videos. Thanks and wishing you many happy travels !!
@@pedamucic Thanks for the kind words. I do try to do extra research before and after I film because I’m interested and I believe the potential audience out there deserves more. And I try to incorporate trains and transit wherever I film. There won’t be trains in every video but there will be definitely in the next 2 or 3 …. Thanks for watching and subscribing.
Wow !! My grandparents lived there for years. My Mom grew up there, graduated from School of the Holy Child. My parents were married there and I was born there. Many years since my grandparents passed away. Nice to see the town. More of Mom's family lived in Mahwah. My Dad's family was from Ramsey.
Bound brook has a canister business talk to the governor have him sell

Those suburban train station a swing set and a yard sale and yas are competing over big money
The Post office Park is checkers ha ha ha ha ha ha
The train station that in the middle of a neighborhood is just like the 4 cylinder American made car there telling you to go to work I've played with posts and comments about money making deals on the train stations and got an answer They make more money with freight than moving workers our vacationers
I've grew up in Paterson and think about it as a bum when Paterson train station is a transportation to a vacation spot those that take the train to Hoboken and know what the Secaucus train station is like then they know what a good train station and a bad one looks like because it happens 2 times Paterson and Hoboken Secaucus is a bum
I’m literally less than two miles away from here 0:00 right now! That’s wild.
I’ve wanted to visit Quincy for a loooong time. Glad I finally made it.
Glad you visited. The old downtown is mostly moved out East of town now, but there are some trendy restaurants and bars in the area, and the town square is well-used for concerts and art shows. The historic distict you showed is larger than you think drive around a bit. You should see the new "suburbs." A lovely town to raise a family in and education and community is still strong and vibrant.
Williamsports is now like a third world county. Nothing like what it once was. Concealed carry after dark!

Do trains actually still run on these tracks?

If your looking for touristy, go to Milford,PA., that's the next town.
Yeah, I don't know if I'm looking for touristy but I have thought about going back to Milford to film. Was there once during pre-youtube days.
Shopping in Matamoras (actually Westfall Township) is within walking in distance from where you were. In actuality, Port Jervis has few places to shop. Food stores (Price Chopper and Shop-Rite, good-sized strip mall, Lowe’s, Home Depot, WalMart, all in Westfall Township, just beyond the I-84 ramps.
That's what I was wondering. Thanks for the info.

I climbed The Vessel back in 2019, before the suicides, and it was a fantastic experience. Very organic in feeling, and lots of views from all sides.
It looks as though there would have been a second track nearer to the canopy in Middletown.
@@jaygatz4335 could very well have been - that’s one thing I’ve noticed examining various old train stations is that there used to be more tracks back in the day
The monument may not be finished for another 10 years +
Not bad at all.
Light rails needs to elevated or underground, not on streets.
