If you are serious about UPSC and willing to dedicate minimum 2 years, its better to dedicate full time for prep. But if there are familial commitments and financial constraints it is advisable to go for non-clinical pg as it gives flexibility in terms of time for better preparation. For academic backgrounds, other than MBBS, Medical sciences optional is still a good choice as it also will be a strong backup plan B. But you should have strong interest in medical sciences, willing to work hard, understand clinical essence and little optimistic about final marks. If you find any non-speciality generalist optional interesting, better to go for that too.
