Aircraft Graveyard Maxton NC 4K

Laurinburg-Maxton Airport outside of Maxton NC holds a graveyard for some older aircraft. Many of the planes have had parts from them sold off. The last plane in the video you will notice is missing its nose. It can be seen at on the 747 display at the National Air and Space museum.

September Skydive over Southport NC with Skydive Coastal Carolinas. What a rush with amazing views of the Cape Fear river, Atlantic Ocean and Wilmington. Flew up to 10,000 feet and dropped to 5,000 feet before the shoot was deployed. Highly recommend doing it if you want an amazing adventure. Excuse the flapping skin in the video. LOL

We used to go there with my family, Gramma - I just loved that place! A unique place for vendors and stores, had lie warehouse chic vibe to it, ahead of it's time. Thanks for the memory.

I wish that there were some way that they could at least convert some of these historic planes into museums of themselves, where guests could go on board and relive those long gone days. Maybe at least one of each type of plane, the 707 through the 747, DC-10, Lockheed 1011, instead of tearing them down like old condemned buildings.

Seems simpler to just let the beach grass hold the shore in place rather than ripping out all the greenery and having to do this every other year.
The dunes are still intact. They do this for people to lay on the beach.

Continental and Northwest Airlines together……it would have been a good merger.
Fun fact, the UAL 747 (N105UA) was originally slated for NWA but the order got canceled after it was built and it went to UAL instead (in addition to another 747). Since they were built for NWA they were slightly different that the rest of the UAL 747 fleet and they were known as the "Northwest jets" among the flight crews. A lot of NWA a/c ended up at KMEB so it's cool that N105UA ended up right across from one of its original sisters (N603US).
Make sure you pronounce it as New Burlin or people will know that you are not a local.

I wonder why these fuselage hulks are kept and not just scrapped and sold off as scrap metal? I mean, they scrapped one 747 fuselage that was kept here prior to the arrival of the United 747-400 (there’s a video from 2016 which shows this 747, which was operated by Northwest). So why not just scrap them all?
They do sell parts off of these planes.

The plant closed because the new owners AES did not and never intended to invest in upgrading the plant. They purchased all the prior utilities plants and ran into the ground.
Thanks for the info. I was just going by what I could find in the internet.
The plant did not close because of asbestos. It closed because it was an old stoker type fired plant. 1940' technology and not as efficient as the more modern pulverized coal plants. It had emission's complaint additions for it's time.

Fantastic video. Did you need to get permission for flying your drone and is it at all possible to get inside the gates at the airport for some kind of tour?
It’s class G airspace but still is an active airport so you need to be careful. It is fully gated and patrolled so no entering the tarmac.

Nice video! I’ve been trying to spot some dolphins at CB and only saw 2 at one time. What time of year was this?
It was mid afternoon. Just happen to be out for a walk and saw what I thought was 1 or 2 dolphins.
Is this a retired aircraft? I think everyone would have imagined flying in a place like this at least once. This is an impressive video.
Yes they are all retired and parts are sold off them. It’s a semi active airport for military jumping exercises but is in class G airspace

No. Unclassified airspace. Watched for a bit and had the radio tuned to airport frequency to listen for aircraft. Always fly safe. 😎
