New subscriber here. Love your channel. ✌️Those are gorgeous colors.
Well hello and welcome! Thank you! And yes, those colors are unique, I really like them too.
I just had to stop and share how much I'm loving this conversation! You had me at Spaceballs in the first five minutes 🤣, and I think it’s fantastic that you're also on Substack! I have full sets of both Museum Aquarelles and Albrecht Dürer pencils, and they’re both amazing! I personally find the MA pencils to be more pigmented overall, and I think there are quite a few lightfast options in the whole set of 76. Of course, that might vary with the quality of chemically treated water, right? The AD pencils are awesome too, and I really appreciate how the entire barrel matches the pigment color-it’s such a nice touch. Oh, and Faber-Castell’s color and numbering system is so well designed! It took me a little while to get used to Caran d'Ache’s system, especially with their recent updates. One of my favorite things about the MA range is that the packaging includes the pigment codes for each pencil, but I guess that just makes me a bit of a nerd! 😊 Thanks for the great video! I look forward to checking out more videos on your channel!❤️
Hi, thank you for the kind words and your take on these pencils. I love using them both. About the FC-all of their colors in all pencils & markers match. I thought that's how it should be! I look forward to more conversations!
The sprays by ranger are not acrylic inks...
Hi! You are correct, they are dye-based. However, they work interchangably & very well with acrylics so I included them in this category under the broad term acrylic because of that.
First comment❤
Hey, welcome! Thanks for watching
Happy New Year 🎊 Cool Video
Thank you! Happy New Year to you as well!
Interesting, thank you. The black stick and tray are Japanese or Chinese ink. You put a few drops of water in the tray and then grind the stick on it until the liquid reaches the right consistency. I believe it’s made out of soot and is very highly pigmented.
Dina Wakley by Ranger is a acrylic gloss spray
Liked the cat toy image❤
Hi. While I do really like the Caran D’Ache museum Aquarelle, I actually much prefer the Faber Castell Albrecht Durer….funny how everybody prefers the Museum aquarelles.
I agree, I think that since their Luminance are so loved (and expensive) that people just assume they're better. I have a couple of other brands in my 'wish list' and when I get other brands, I'll test them out and compare.
I struggled getting the consistency the way I liked with these. I ended up putting them in little squeeze bottles, diluted them with some distilled water, and shook them well to mix. They're perfect for me now. If I need the paint thicker, I just squeeze some out on my palette and let the water evaporate until it's right for what I'm doing. It's made the gouache so much easier to use and I therefore use it all the time.
That is a great tip, thank you for sharing!
The artist grade Holbein OPs are square and don't come with a wrapper. They are quite nice if you wrap them yourself. Also, Royal Talens makes a great brush on OP varnish.
I like himi for single layer light gouache sketches. It doesn't layer as well as id like tho. I agree the brushes are GREAT. I actually ended up buying multiple sets of all the different kinds of brushes they have. I even use some of them for oil paintings
Nice collection! Did you read them all?
almost all, yes
We just got the atlas of anatomy for the artist.
That's a good one!
Lovely ❤ Did you also use acrylic paint?
I did the first part outside using soft pastels and then wet them with my wet paintbrush to set them. I also used the Derwent pastel watercolors, which are also chalky, and a bit of colored pencil at that time. It was all dry the next day so I came in with colored pencil which is this video.
Hello Hobbes❤!
Great! I love eating artichokes ❤😊! Thanks for the video.
I'm glad you liked it!
Mark Gottsegen was the shit; he was the best teacher I ever had. Some said he was rough--maybe, but if you couldn't hack criticism don't be an artist--avoid the Gottsegen's who will rip your shit because he knew what he was talking about. All I ever had to do was follow his directions--there are a lot of people who can't do that, though, and that was all you had to do to make it with him. A lot of us signed up for his classes as often as possible. A lot of people actually looked forward to next semester with Mr. Gottsegen--people were asking each other if they would be there next semester and they would say that they would be. Maybe Geography gets that exciting, but I doubt it; that was in the old "Welcome Back, Kotter" McIver building--complete with green, institutional paint; weird noises at night as we worked no one could figure out; and faculty offices the size of small-town jails--all of which is gone so you missed it all.

I'm so glad!
Great Video Happy Halloween 👻🎃
Why thank you, and Happy Halloween to you too!
Very nice images! Thanks for sharing. What silvery metallic paint did you use for Discovery page (bicycle)? Love the look of it
It was Liquitex Silver Acrylic Gouache
if you are a gardener you can also add those to seed storage to prevent mold/mildew
That is great advice, I have a lot of half-used seed packets! I'm also a fellow Wisconsinite, as your handle implies!
I have really been enjoying all of your book recommendation videos. You have such a variety!
I'm so glad!
Fantastic Video ❤
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
The kittens sound so cute! Have you given them names yet?
The tabby-striped boy is Hobbes and the all-black one is Percy. They are named after comic pets . Hobbes from Calvin & Hobbes and Percy is the name of Jason's pet iguana in Fox Trot. These two boys are a riot!
Yes❤❤❤❤❤!!!!!
I have some Yarka that I bought on Amazon and they work well. They remind me of the White Nights and Rosa Studio European style watercolors . Roman Szmal also has a very similar formula.
Great video! Nice painting ❤ Thanks for letting us know about these paints.
Thank you, and you're so welcome!
Hi kittens! Thank for the demo and lovely painting.
You're welcome!
