I shoot a Bear Authority compound bow. 50 lb draw weight. Fiberglass arrows from AMS, Garpoon tips. The green arrows are new carbon-core arrows I recently got from Loxley Bowfishing. I really like those btw and they’re way more affordable than the AMS arrows. Better for deep water and longer shots too.

That's a valid question. I have a gaff and have tried using it in the past, but the net is a way more reliable means of gaining control of the fish. With a small boat like mine, it's also more efficient to keep the fish in the net, outside of the boat while I deliver the finishing blow. Can't swing that club inside of the bucket. This method minimizes losses due to pull-outs and also keeps the carp guts on the deck to a minimum.

Just a regular compound bow from Bear Authority. 50 lb draw weight - although you can get away with using a lesser weight (25 - 40 lbs) if you’re looking to start bowfishing yourself. I like a little more weight for those longer shots or deep water shots.

I’ve only just started shooting this lake, so I’m not really sure what’s publicly approachable or even if bowfishing from shore is allowed. If it is, I think the northwest corner of the lake is public access. The west end of the lake appears to be all private homes and a few parks. If you’re allowed to access the south end of the lake, that’d probably be a good area once the spawn begins.

I don’t. Sorry. But you could probably pick up a used compound bow on Craigslist or facebook marketplace and then get the rest of the gear that you need online. You can bowfish with any kind of bow, really. I just prefer compound bows myself.

You’re exactly right, Kevin. I’m going to be working on the Shady box footage next. Six babies in that box. Two parent owls steadily dropping off critters inside. Can’t wait to get a kill count on that one.

The nesting box design was created by the Barn Owl Trust, a UK organization dedicated to furthering the population of barn owls everywhere. While it could conceivably make it easier for predators to gain access to the box, it’s also a common perch location for the parents guarding their clutch. I’m in the process of reviewing trail cam footage where at least one of the two nesting adults can be seen spending a lot of time on that shelf. I think part of the reason why it was designed that way was to also provide a place for the juvenile barn owls to visit once they’re big enough to get out through that tall opening without actually having to fly off for their first time. The juvenile barn owls can fly, but they sometimes lack the stamina to fly home. The larger “landing pad” probably makes it a little easier for them to make it back too.

Two questions: Does the lake have a carp problem? And do they have a boat launch.

@@carpkiller8777 It looks like it cause i see them all the time & the tackle shop workers encourage people to keep them with no limits. I see boats so i assume so, i fish from the bank so not too familiar how all that works

No, it’s an old Trailer Boat. I don’t think they even make them anymore. I did all of the modifications to make it ideal for bow fishing.

If you look at the videos that show the end of my day with the final pic of the day’s catch, you’ll see a big black container in the background. The lake management collects them for anyone like me taking them out of the lake to be ground up and disposed of. They make great fertilizer for anyone who’s inclined to use them for that purpose (and I have provided them to people for that purpose) but generally speaking, that container is where I deposit the ones I’ve removed from the lake.
