Saw Tuning: Getting the most out of the G444 Holzfforma saw!
After the breakin period of my G444 Holzfforma saw from Farmertec, I was advised to check the rpm settings. I purchased a RPM meter from Amazon and found that the saw was only turning 10000 RPMs when it should be over 13000 RPMs. Made a slight adjustment and the saw sounds and runs much better. This saw is a clone of the Stihl MS440.

West Virginia continues to amaze: New River Gorge National Park

The Mech Maxx Saw Mill Has Arrived!

After several hours behind the chainsaw mill, I decided to buy a saw mill. After doing a good bit of research, I decided on the Mech Maxx SM-22 mainly because of price. After receiving the mill, I am really happy with my decision. The mill seems to be built on a solid platform, the engine fired up on the first pull and their customer service is outstanding. Is the Holzfforma G444 Stihl Clone Worth The Money?

Have you seen the cheap chainsaws on Amazon and wondered if they are worth the money? Well I purchased a Holzfforma from FarmerTech’s website on Amazon to try it out. The G444 is a clone of the Stihl MS440. It is a 71cc saw and it came with a 25” bar and chain for $265. I noticed that the bar and chain looked very well built and the saw seems to be the same. After putting it together, it fired ...

It's nice to see your videos of you using your stuff. I think too many people worry about keeping everything pristine and it appears that you take care of your things, but also like to see what they're made of. If I were in the market for a tractor I think you did a good job of selling the Kioti.

Yes, I am really happy with it. I don't have a ton of hours on it so I can't comment on the reliability but so far so good.

We've been around some of those areas, but you took it further. Thanks for sharing!
Good stuff man! Should be a way to maybe put a cantilever brake to latch down on one of the wheels maybe or possibly a super strong magnet mounted at the end of slide travel there to hold the head from sliding back.
@@PSBEadventures been thinking about it but haven’t got a good solution as of yet. I could train Merle the Barn Cat to hold it for me. He is always in my way. lol
@doingstuffseeingstuff 🤣
You may have appeared to have had the easy job, but I'm sure you paid a price to be in that position. Now it's been a year and I'm hoping nobody wants to walk and you've turning that path into your personal single track!
@@BlueBug-s9l we were just talking about this at work the other day. Hurricane Helene completely blocked it. It’s a mess. I doubt we will reopen it.
Super cool that you still have your dad around to help with projects! You can expand your saw mill shed with no problem now that the mill is up and running. There are a lot of different ways to stop the carriage from sliding back and I'm sure you'll figure out a simple fix. Great deal on that 10 pack of blades, and I hope you put a metal detector on your list for Christmas.
@@BlueBug-s9l funny you mention the metal detector. My wife had purchased one off of MacBids so I drug it out of the closet to see if it worked. It does! I enjoy the time I get to spend with my dad. He is the reasonable one and I’m the “fly by the seat of my pants” guy. lol
I appreciate that you get off the beaten path and record your explorations. It's easy to get a feel for the places you go when you show what's in every nook and cranny.
Notice you got the full wrap handle, let me know how you like it. Saw looks to have some torque, but does seem to be turned down a bit. Also I would recheck torque on all the fasteners. The bigger cc saws are fun.

Hey,man! I just found your channel and subscribed. I'm in Atlanta with a new to me '22 300L and just spent the weekend riding the BDRx between Suches and Ellijay. We camped in the middle of them and rode to each town and back each day. My riding buddy is 100 miles south of me and can't get up to North GA as often as I'd like. I've watched a few videos of you and Doug already and you guys are going on some amazing roads. If you wouldn't be opposed to having a third wheel sometime let me know. As far as the saw work the main thing I always keep in mind is that the brake isn't going to save you if it doesn't get actuated. Straight left arm is what they say. Chaps are kinda like dressing for the slide and not the ride. Cutting with the tip and making plunge cuts is definitely VERY dangerous, but setting yourself up to be saved by the brake is about all you can do when danger is the road you must travel. With that said I fully agree that I'm still in one piece only by the grace of God.
@@BlueBug-s9l that’s awesome. I hope you are enjoying it as much as I do mine. Doug is about 20 minutes from me but we are both an hour east of Clayton. So much good riding in North Georgia. I will hit you up if we can get something planned or if Doug can’t go. He is my only friend that rides. Most of the time it’s spur of the moment because of his business. I was talking to my Dad today about the saw and using it on TH-cam. People reach out and make suggestions and I appreciate them. I really try to be safe when I am using it and I try new techniques all the time. I guess I have developed a good feel for what the saw is doing over the 35 years of using it. My son has picked it up and it is terrifying to watch him and hope he doesn’t pick up my bad habits. Trying to find us a class to go to for his sake. Thanks for watching and subscribing.
As for the G444 it was pretty impressive as far a power went. But speaking as a factory trained Gold Stihl Tech and former Stihl dealer, your saw technique is... terrifying. Please don't take this the wrong way but I'd rather keep watching new stuff from Doing Stuff Seeing Stuff than watching reruns of Did Stuff Saw Stuff (no pun intended). Again don't take this the wrong way but you need some chaps, don't drop start a saw, especially with the brake off at half choke (always crank a saw with the brake on). And be damn careful when using the tip of a bar to cut with. Like I said I'd rather watch new stuff from you than watching reruns. I really hope I didn't piss you off with this. Anyway have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
No worries, I appreciate the comment. I have been running a saw and cutting fire wood since I was 16 and never had any training other than learning from my mistakes. By the grace of God I am still in one piece. I actually put my name on the list for the Clemson University sawyer class that they offered to volunteers who help with clean up in the experimental forest. One of my sons enjoys cutting wood and it is terrifing to watch him. I am trying to get training for him as well. I thought it would be good to do together. Thanks for watching and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as well.
@@doingstuffseeingstuffAnd to you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Maybe Santa will bring you some saw chaps. Be safe and use that chain break!

My dad was born there in Jackson County. I have fond memories of camping up there and visiting. I have family still up there, though we don't communicate. There's also a family graveyard up there. The last time I was up there, the house my grandfather built in the teens was still there with people living in it. Also, my great uncles house was empty but still standing. My fathers family moved to S.C. in the late 40's. My brother and I went up there 20 years ago to look around and to try to connect with family. We took a wrong turn and started up a trail in his jeep. We were confronted by armed men and told to turn around. I thought we would be killed. It was obvious something illegal was going on. My brother is dead now, and we never went back. I pray it's not that way now. I have been considering going back.
@@Make_my_day-1 thanks for reaching out. The place is beautiful and I wished I had more time to explore the area. Fortunately I haven’t had any run ins with people. Sometimes it’s hard to know what is private land and what’s federal. Thanks for watching.
@doingstuffseeingstuff My grandparents and father told me about living up there years ago. They told me how rough it was. They walked paths to get from place to place. Grandma told us about how she was walking at night with fresh meat on her back while a mountain lion followed her. My Grandpa delivered mail on a mule at one point. Among other things. They had a farm up there. It was a hard life for a woman up there for sure. My dad said he and his brothers would walk for miles so they could see an automobile. This was during the 1930s. My dad was a hard man to be around. I guess it was because of the way he was brought up. All those people knew were church and work. Thanks for answering my post.
@@Make_my_day-1 I love hearing stories and learning about the history of Appalachia. Those were hard times and those were hard people. We have lost a lot of that over the years. I have distant family to the east of that area in Caney Fork. My mom has told me stories that my Granddad told her. His dad walked down the mountain to work in cotton mills and would walk back occasionally. I love to hear those stories. I bet your grandma could fend off a mountain lion with a stick.
