Power to the Flower
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 14 ต.ค. 2019
Power to the Flower is a USDA Zone 9 Gardening Channel. Thanks for checking out Power to the Flower!
I started this channel to share my experience with East Bay, CA container gardening and small landscape design for outdoor spaces. Every region is a niche and my hope is that these videos will be helpful, inspirational and fun to watch as I garden throughout the East Bay Area of California (average low is 25'F).
Power to the Flower is a dream I began in October 2019 as a mom of three who wanted to share my gardening experience with YOU after recently moving to the East Bay! We moved into an old house that continues to need a lot of updating-and the yard is a special challenge! My own space, as well as some client spaces I now consult on, are my inspiration to share with you my belief that every space can be a place you WANT TO BE with the addition of merely a few beautiful plants and flowers.

Home Gardener's Guide to Fruit Trees Using Tree Science Pt 1: The top 5 Questions on Fruit Tree Care
I bought some muscari bulbs and they are very small. Bought another set and they were much larger. Will the small bulbs flower in their first year?
We have a lemon tree that is so overgrown and looks like it’s never been pruned. Have no idea where to even start. Not just lemon actually, we have a whole orchard full of trees on a property we just bought, apples (different varieties), plums, pears, oranges, mandarin, fig, grapefruit, pomegranate, cherry… they’re all in need of pruning and not sure where to start with such overgrown trees! Any way I can send a photo to get some tips?
How do you keep ants off, and those damn leaf worms.
Just FYI: you can stimulate new growth from an existing bud with a relatively high degree of predictability and success without making a heading cut by using the bud notching method. Simply cut a notch directly above the bud you want to push new growth that is deep enough, and wide enough to sever the cambium layer which causes the hormone signal to bypass that bud as it travels down the limb. This technique allows one to stimulate new growth in a more targeted way than with heading cuts, or in situations where the existing growth that would otherwise be removed by a heading cut is not necessarily undesirable.
Lovely. Very useful. I'll you know how it goes with my lemon trees. I have lots of work to do!
Hi , thank you for sharing . On the branches my lemon tree have a lot of small black circle insects … Please tell my what I can spray something … ❤
Hi
Nice❤
I'm in Concord 2024. I wonder how much sun you are allowing your roses and if you could recommend those that survive afternoon sun?
❤
Great shared knowledge. I never prune during flowering because the more fruit tree flowers, the more bees in the orchard, something to think about
Thank you ❤
Can I do it year round (mild winters in CA), or just in the spring??
Thanks understanding the principle of heading cuts and over crossing brunches will be helpful,
Do you put your lemon tree inside or cover it in winter
Dirt
Thanks for this! We've got a very over-grown lemon tree, so everything you've explained here will be very helpful when we start pruning tomorrow. 🍋😃
very new to gardening clearly.
The hummingbirds are going to love the coral bells. Great video.
I have a lemon tree but the leaves of some shoots have dried up. I have cut the dried parts. It started with the "bark" peeling off. and these branches do not support further growth. Shall I cut the whole tree? OR shall I prune the affected parts? I have had lemons from the tree before.
Where do you buy David Austin Roses coz I tried their website this year 2024 and its always out of stock. I tried it multiple times on different months until now September 😢 it’s still out of Stock
@@ceem729 I’m buy mine in Jan!!
How fun! What a wonderful mix of flower bed! Everything was taken care to its best and so harmonious together!
Thank you for video. what can I do when my lemon tree has curly, sticky and shiny leaves with white sticky eggs I think they are bug eggs. I have photos, but how can I send you the photos?
Incredibly helpful as others said, but no one's mentioned how low-key funny you are! Educational and joyful - thanks!
Can you do one under or above to make 2 ???
do you take your lemon tree indoors in the winter?
Perfectly explained!!!!! Just what I needed!!!!!! Please do more on deadheading plants!!!!!!!
What I’ve found is that zinnias need constant moisture if they’re in a pot or they get that lower leaf necrosis.. even 1-2 days without water could cause severe necrosis and it’s so sad 😭 like whyyy it was looking so goood!
I heard once on a learning channel program, that the angle of your cut on a branch, determines the direction of growth.
Those lemons look healthy.
Watering the dirt! Yes! She’s so smart!
Hey neighbor, I’m in PH!! Happy to have found your channel!!!!
Did you not learn anything from your father?
I have inherited a lemon tree..it needs a lot of "shaping up" very healthy.. but leave a up trunk and very long arms. Help
Amazing! But I thought it was called noching.
I didnt get to pruning mine this spring and the top got so heavy when it bloomed it easily fell over 😅 prune your butterfly bushes peeps 😅
Which state are you? And can it survive in winter?
@@timandabipascual9329 we are CA and that is zone 9b. And yes it does
@@PowertotheFlower thanks! I’m thinking if I could just plant it direct to my backyard than in pot… because I only have 3-5 fruits every season. 😅
What is the size of your pots?
Thank you. You’ve given me confidence to prune mine next year
I am around Daytona and grew a lemon tree from seed that I took from my one of neighbor's Lemons. It's still in the pot has one branch and the tree itself is now about 6' tall. It's 2 years old and I want to get it in the ground this year. Do I cut the top? At this rate it will be 10 feet and look stupid with this 1 branch.
Scoring my branching lemon tree worked for me! New branches growing within a week of scoring! Thanks
What people may not know is you can make a nice Lemon Leaf Tea which is a natural sedative, calming and promotes anti anxieties....do not throw away the leaves, you can freeze them or dry them out to make Lemon Teas!!!
The length of this video is 733T
Will this "scoring" method also work on olive trees, or bougainvilleas, to make them more bushy ? Thanks.
I love your flowers. The dianthus is amazing. The fragrance that you get from that little flower is pure magic. You get a lot more flowers when you cut the little stems from the flowers that stopped blooming. There are different cultivars. The maiden pink is a very popular cultivar. I planted them in a planter that holds a lot of wood chips. They really seem to love that. Unlike violets, they do not like the wood chips at all. But the dianthus also likes to be planted between some rocks. In a pot or planter they form a compact cluster with many little flowers. In the full soil they intend to spread a bit more with less flowers. This year it was the first year that I tried seeding a variety of wild flower and poppy seeds. But the weather was so bad in my country that the first months of the year nothing was willing to germinate while I was seeding at the recommended time of the year. Now it is the first week of summer and we finally have some better temperatures and less rain with some sunshine. A few days ago I have sown a lot of seeds in pots and planters so that I could put them at the warmest and most sunny spot in my garden, and that went well. Most of the seeds germinated pretty well. But now I have to protect the seedling against the sun otherwise it will get too hot since it is already summer, and now I am in the situation that when the sun does come out it is too intense for the seedlings. So to protect the seedlings from getting too hot I am using some shade cloth so that the seedlings can grow a bit more while protected and become more sun and heat tolerant as they grow bigger. But your little patio sure is an inspiration. One day I hope to have many flowers in my borders as well. But I am still in the learning stage when it comes to planting in the soil, and what will work with my local conditions. Because my borders are pretty shady during the day.
I have heard so many different opinions on what to plant potted roses in. My first try was more like what they do in England and it was too heavy. What do you use? My potted roses are in a greenhouse in zone 7 because of our constant winds. Thank you!
My first experience with Proven Winners, and my last. I ordered and got an arborvitae that came in a box clearly labeled "This End Up" with arrows, etc. FedEx dumped it on my porch on it's side, dislodging all of the ball soil and leaving me with a slapdash rescue job to try and recover it for later planting. When I raised the issue with Proven Losers, as I call them, they said "oh, yeah...FedEx doesn't always do the best job...", yada, yada. It appears that when ordering, one must be aware that Proven Losers puts the well-being of their chosen shipper FedEx above that of customer satisfaction. Oh, and there are two companies: Proven Winners vs. Proven Winners Direct. When I ordered, there was no distinction made. First, Proven Losers (not Direct) said that if I could send them a pic. of the "as received" condition (now impossible), they'd 'work with me". "Work with me" means a haggling process that is now pointless since I gave the thing first aid in hopes it'll recover. But it's moot because subsequent emails now claim that I didn't order from "Proven Winners Direct" but "Proven Winners"...my invoice copy says "Proven Winners" -- basta! Off into Neverneverland goes my $76...maybe my first aid will rescue the poor thing. I have multiple planters that I need to order Anna's Ball miniature arborvitae for. But it won't be from "Proven Losers" Next time...Monrovia! 10/20/24 update: The Fedex-wounded ball arbor vitae didn't survive the summer in spite of having it's own barrel container with drip irrigation. Thanks, Proven Losers!
Shouldn't my Owari be putting on new growth this time of year? It had a flush of new growth in april but absolutely nothing since. It's in a 20 gallon tub. Thanks.
Fantastic. I've just bought a Clementine tree, but it's a 5ft stem with the bushy leaves above. Your scoring info is great. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your information
