      the point was to encourage the abandonment of memorising words or phrases in the language. it is more beneficial to take in the language in its context, rather than painstakingly memorises isolated chunks of words.

      You know, the old English was a lot more comparable to Spanish. “For how long have you been learning English?” is the pure way of saying it, como, “¿Por cuánto tiempo has estudiado inglés?”. Isn’t that more similar? (Don’t forget to capitalize the ‘E’ in English!)

    I would say, Its better if you just consume content that you really like, its become easier to yo comprehension, Bkuz You really dont give a fuck what is the level and will learn naturally. It works a lot for me. I love to watching the office, there are some expression that I dont understand, jokes and others sentences, but I also really wanna know what the fuck the caracters is saying🙉🤔, so good english is the english you really enjoy and can spend hours watching ! 😁

    I prefer with subtitles on because in this way i learn some new vocab , it doesn't mean i look up every new word , i just wanna know how the word is written , i will get the meaning eventually through context

      In real life, you can learn new vocabulary by listening just as he suggest. If you want to know how the word is written, speak into your phone and see if your phone can understand you when you say it

      1-expose yourself more to your target language 2-build a bigger vocabulary 3-Watch things without subtitles on your comprehension level now, will give you more motivation and improve your level of comprehension.

    Im not strong in Eng and i prefer watching with sub but sometimes especially on TH-cam im watching without sub Id like to say there are norm duds who speaks clearly and other guys opposite and a lot of depends of accent so anyway in these days its more convinient for me this technique cuz i can find new words easily by this way and it doesnt worry me at all

    what i’ve really noticed as a non native english speaker (my native is russian) that many english series tend to be the hardest to understand without subtitles. idk if it’s the sound production features or they tend to be way too expressive with their speech style or something? i can watch movies, i can watch yt videos and talk to people okay but SERIES? naahh i wont understand like a half of it ✋😭

По себе могу сказать, что могу слушать ютуб также, будто смотрю на русском, но фильмы и сериалы не то, чтобы хорошо даются Но дело, наверное, что в том, что глаза привыкли читать сабы в этом контексте. В последние n лет вообще с русскими сабами (не по моей воле, хаха...) Но с другой стороны, смотрел месяц назад Fallout без сабов, все было ок!

      ​@@unknown-otter Большая маленькая ложь или Шерлок например трудно было понять, сейчас Песочный человек смотрю тоже зачастую неясно что говорят, если решаю субтитры не включать. Думаю зависит от формата тоже, типо всякие сериалы которые смотрела на никелодеон в детстве вполне могу смотреть и так, тк там и лексика проще и менее реалистичная игра и продакшн. Ну на самом деле я знаю что многие нейтивы тоже смотрят с субтитрами, наверное потому что у них язык менее интуитивно понятен (по фрагментам или звукам слова) как русский например.
