Resilience Among Qualitative Researchers
มุมมอง 233 ปีที่แล้ว
The month of August (2021) was dedicated to rigor in qualitative research and the qualitative researcher’s mindset on the Quali Q blog. We had two amazing blog posts written by Qualitative Research Blueprint alumni that were incredibly well received by our readers and communities. My intent in the blog post I am discussing today was to put it all together and then take it a step further. I want...
Mic-Drop Worthy Qualitative Research
มุมมอง 143 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm honoured to once again be able to discuss the truly mic-drop worthy research of Megan Lefebvre. This topic is timely as we are hosting a free webinar in September of 2021 on the topic of how to design and write truly impactful qualitative research (learn more at kajabi.qualiq.ca/IQR). If you would like to read the full blog post that is discussed in this video, you can do so here: www.quali...
Rigor- Moving From "Not Quite Right" to "Just Right"
มุมมอง 323 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is my commentary on our fantastic guest poster's blog from August 17, 2021. We had the pleasure of having Mari-Anna Yuko Bergeron Doherty, MSSW, Ph.D. Candidate, LCSW, doctoral student in the discipline of social work, adjunct assistant professor, and mother to two young children, join us on the Quali Q blog. She shared her experience and the difficulties she faced when trying to wea...
Rigor: Balancing Importance & Urgency 2021
มุมมอง 243 ปีที่แล้ว
This quote by Ken Groen, “Urgent things shout, important things whisper. Listen to the whisper.” makes me think of research priorities, especially in relation to rigor in qualitative research. I firmly believe that thinking about rigor in qualitative research is of the utmost importance, but so often rigor becomes an afterthought when it should have been a priority early on. I discuss that in t...
Imposter Syndrome in Qualitative Research
มุมมอง 223 ปีที่แล้ว
We had the pleasure of having Dr. Carolyn Mak as a guest poster on the blog in August 2021. She is a school social worker in Toronto, as well as a sessional lecturer at the University of Toronto (and a QRB Fall 2020 alumna). She discussed the very important topic of Imposter Syndrome in qualitative research with us in the hopes of broadening understanding of it from a systemic perspective. In t...
Choose Your Readings Wisely: One of the Four Realize Path© Pillars
มุมมอง 43 ปีที่แล้ว
Back when we wrapped up the first QRB course on December 1st, 2020, I started reflecting on everything that I had heard from QRB members during live Zoom meetings, one-on-one coaching calls and over email, and thinking how a big part of my work and passion lies in supporting qualitative researchers to fulfill their potential. That’s when the idea of the Realize Path© started to form in my brain...
Nothing Replaced the Snacks
มุมมอง 63 ปีที่แล้ว
When I reflect on the qualitative research projects I was involved with during the pandemic, I feel thankful for everything that I learned, and each milestone my clients and mentees achieved. There were many pivots, and sometimes they weren’t simple or easy. When I think about the things COVID-19 took away from qualitative research, the first one that comes to mind is food! I discuss this in to...
What Level of Expertise Do You Need?
มุมมอง 193 ปีที่แล้ว
“What level of expertise on a subject is required before doing publishable qualitative research?” That question was asked by someone who requested permission to enter the Quali Q For Qualitative Minds Group, and it didn’t trigger any exciting content ideas in my brain until a few weeks ago when two events happened. First, I was conducting interviews for one of the projects I’m currently involve...
Maximizing & Realizing Your Full Qualitative Research Potential
มุมมอง 93 ปีที่แล้ว
In today's video, we discuss the Realize Path© and how it came to be. This Path has 4 pillars, which we discuss at length in this video. The four pillars of the Realize Path© are, in my opinion, equally important. However, Quali Q's programs are going to be focusing on community of practice/relationships as the gateway to all other pillars. We’re thankful that our QRB community is on board with...
The Supervisory Relationship in Qualitative Research
มุมมอง 213 ปีที่แล้ว
When I was setting up Quali Q in 2019, I had to define my audience and who I wanted to serve day in and out. More than once I heard the question, “Are your ideal clients professors or graduate students?” Well, the answer was (and still is) both. I help professors (i.e., in various academic positions), graduate students and practitioners to conduct rigorous, impactful and ethical qualitative res...
Navigating Teamwork in Qualitative Research: Gold Nuggets from Dr Maria Mayan
มุมมอง 93 ปีที่แล้ว
Back in January 2021, I wrote a blog post entitled “What does teamwork mean to qualitative researchers?” in response to a number of requests I had received from readers on the topic in December 2020. The blog post was very well received, and because of that I invited my mentor (and former co-supervisor), Dr. Maria Mayan, to come to Qualitative Research Blueprint (QRB) in the spring and talk abo...
Fewer Words, Equal Richness...How?
มุมมอง 93 ปีที่แล้ว
As qualitative researchers, we commonly struggle with the length of our manuscripts (i.e., word count). In April 2021, during one of the Qualitative Research Blueprint (QRB) weekly chats, a course member asked me to share strategies to decrease the length of a qualitative manuscript, especially when all participants’ quotes seem super relevant. In her case, the struggle resulted in a 7000-word ...
Does sharing transcripts count as member checking?
มุมมอง 1243 ปีที่แล้ว
Does sharing interview transcripts with participants “count” as member checking? This is a question I received from one of the Qualitative Research Blueprint students last month when we were going through module three on verification strategies. Since this isn’t the first time this question has come up, I decided it would be a good one to address. If you would like to read the full blog post th...
Linking Feminist Theory to Qualitative Work
มุมมอง 463 ปีที่แล้ว
We had a special guest on our Quali Q blog this week- Dr. Ami Stearns joined us to discuss linking feminist theory to qualitative work. Ami's blog post prompted some reflection on my part, which I share with you in this video. I encourage you to watch this video and participate in the prompts to reflect that I share inside. If you would like to read the full blog post that is discussed in this ...

What Type of Qualitative Researcher Do You Want to Be in 2021?
Hi Maira, I just wanted to ask if you have a video on deductive content analysis?
Hey Ayse! You can check out this video: th-cam.com/video/4JfKyLdfYwA/w-d-xo.html. We also have some blog posts on this topic over at www.qualiq.ca/blog.
@@qualiqforqualitativeminds6594 thank you! I will check it out
Thank you
Hi! Can we use deductive approach under thematic analysis? we used interview method and already have theoretical framework from existing theories. If I will use inductive then what will happen to my existing theories?
That's a great question, Amor. The short answer is yes, you can. I'd love to discuss this further! If you come and join my Facebook group, Quali Q for Qualitative Minds Group, myself and the other qualitative researchers in the group would be happy to provide more information. :)
I am considering drawing on telephonic focus group in my PhD studies. Thanks for the info you provided. My name is Elvis.
