    Is it really mossy, as it is hard to tell? Did you keep this? Sixty years ago, I was hired by a private psychiatric hospital in New England, to lnstruct & teach patients metalcraft which included enameling on copper, jewelry-making using sterling silver & cabachons & lapidary. Previous to being hired, when I was a junior & senior in high school where I had taken craft classes which had included pottery, etching on aluminum, copper enameling and jewelry making using cabachons. After graduating, I attended a junior college majoring in Cfafts which also included jewelry making using cabs. When I saw the classroom where my classes were held, it had kilns, jewelry making tools, acetylene torch and a long horizontal piece of equipment with saw, grinding wheels, belt sander & at the end of unit, a round spin disc with a dense sponge-foam (?) disk with a piece of leather attached. I'd never seen anything like that. It was my introduction to lapidary! My co-worker said he didn't really know much about the unit as he'd never used it, but could show me the basics, which he did before switching to the Art classroom a few months later. When I had no classes, I explored this New to me, equipment by cutting, shaping, grinding-polishing my 1st stone. By the time I was ready for a 2nd stone, I had explored the drawers that held rough chunks or nogles of rock and another one that held slices/slabs. I had discovered a piece of rock that was semi- clear with what I thought were pieces of "moss" intersperced occasionally and other indestinct things. The chunk was about 3"long x 2" high x about 2" wide. The piece intrigued me, so I set it aside on my desk until I had more time. Then I had to decide how I was going to cut this interesting piece. Finally decided to cut it about midway of the stone & thru the middle of the width of the stone. When I finished cutting & looked @ the stone, there was a realistic picture in front of me: semi-off white sky, mountains in the background with possible glacier or water stream dividing two mountains, "vegatation" in mid-foreground & plateau with two bushes (1 on each side). I made a second cut about 7mm thick, rounded the corners and made the piece more or less rectangular by grinding on silicon (?) carbide wheels, several grades finer compound belts & finally a Cerium oxide polish on the leather wheel. I set this into a fine silver 1/4" high bezel with inner step bezel, no solid backing so reverse of stone can be seen as well & a 3-piece pin assembly completed the piece. With the exception of the other half of the stone which was being made into a round shape which unfortunately droped onto the floor and broke, I've Never seen another (Montana) moss agate like these, ever. Back to my question at the beginning. Did you keep it & did you slab any slices? Sorry my comment is so long, but I couldn't shorten it & have it make sense. Thanks for sharing the video.

    • @JensensAdventures
      @JensensAdventures 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I did keep it, I haven't cut it yet, not sure if I want to yet. It does have dendrites in it on the edges, Montana Moss Agates aren't actually true moss agates, they are dendritic agates, but that's what they were named I guess. No worries on the long comment, I enjoyed the story!
