Billy Joel Somewhere Along The Line 1978
Amazing listening to this song again. I love our "piano man." Touched with the fire of genius!
~ <3 ~
All time favorite Billy Joel song
I miss Liberty DeVitto
This is amazing. I can't believe he is doing the banjo part on piano AND singing at the same time.
Hard to believe there was ever a time when artists sounded just as good live as they did on their recorded songs. Now most artists sound like shit when they are live. Damn it, Billy Joel is one of the greats. Sad that our children will never understand real music like we did.
I really really really want to hear that full joe cocker cover
LOVE HIM! He's cute too!
This is my favourite Billy Joel songs. It reminds me on so many good days in the '80.
I was at this show and it was awesome. Billy apologized a bunch of times for the hose lights being so bright. I sooo wish they would release it on DVD. I lost my VHS copy. I had first row behind the stage and was in a few shots.
No other words except: Really, really beautiful
i remember recording this years ago on my old betacord video recorder... thanks for posting this
wow this was a long time ago..... i was a year old and billy joel had hair
To me it's very 52nd Street BJ, with elements of "Superstition" and "Pick Up the Pieces". I think "Handball" was just a placeholder lyric and he didn't mean to keep it, but then never found anything else and it stuck. I wish this were released or performed live!!
I like the music critic's comment that that are are a lot of "better songwriter's technically than Billy". Who? John and Paul and that's about it.
If I ever do the "wedding thing"...this song will be part of it. So good!
To know, know, know you, is to love, love , love you, Billy.
First heard this live in 1974 in the famous Lafayette's Music Room (music club/ bar/ restaurant) in my hometown of Memphis, TN. Loved it ever since!
You know--you a r e a doctor- for all of us , thank you!
Il migliore Il più eclettico PIANO MAN
if you dont know honesty by billy joel i suggest you check it out
This song is like, so sweet!
This is off "The Piano Man" album
Overlooked gem from early in his career.
You do know it's a piano right?
I can't understand how people can listen to this song and not simply be stunned. It's such a strong, clear message and it's played so well. Definitely one of my favourite Billy Joel songs.
OH IT IS AMAZING!!! I'M GLAD; I FOLLOW A MAN WHO LIVED IN 60S-70S IN USA!
If you listen to the cold spring harbor version of this song and then this one you notice the endings are different. I love this song though!
On the CD Extra Video on the newer "Songs In the Attic" CD,BTW.
My favorite part is 1:45 when Liberty hits the tom twice. Great version and a great band!
This is one of his most ambitious songs and it is truly a masterpiece! Hearing the live version is so awesome!
Love it.. still reckon one of the best "love" songs written, Ann C
Where was this performed at???
I spent 8 months in Afghanistan away from my family last year, I loved listening to Billy Joel on my iPod - this especially kept me going through the worst of days.
Can Billy please make a new album......he is as good as anyone ever.
So handsome
does he say slow it down?
He always has me cracking up. It's that Long Island humor of his! I have it too, just like the rest of my family.
Thank you for posting these - much appreciated.
it just ain't billy without liberty. is original band was the best.
the album was Piano Man, but it was released in '73 or '74; i bought it while still in high school, so it had to be the early 70's.
I'm 16 and I absolutely love his songs... Thanks to my dad! :)
Just finished learning to play this one! It really is beautiful.
From minute 2:00 until 3:07 pure Brilliance
@jurbanek2704 of cos I don't know who's the drummer... thx for the info though.. he reminds me of Max Weinberg... another awesome drummer..
I'm not sure, if it's sarcasm from your side, or you really don't know, who's the drummer. Anyway, it's Liberty DeVitto, the absolutely best drummer Billy Joel had. And you bet he's awesome! :)
Most certainly. You can see him feel every beat :)
It grooves so hard in the verses.
THAT'S how it is done.
@anagramish Do you blame her? Sure, he's not the most attractive man in the world, but he's so nice and charming. How could you not be charmed to the point of infatuation?
