The city of Jerusalem buzzed with the excitement of the Passover festival, a sacred time when the Jewish people remembered their ancestors' deliverance from slavery in Egypt. Jesus and His disciples had come to Jerusalem for the occasion, knowing that tensions between Jesus and the religious authorities were at an all-time high. Despite the danger, Jesus knew that the time had come for Him to fulfill His mission.
It was the evening of the Passover meal, and Jesus had arranged for a private room where He would share this important meal with His disciples. The disciples were unaware of the weight this night carried; to them, it was another Passover meal, a celebration of freedom and God’s faithfulness. But for Jesus, it was much more. He knew that His betrayal, arrest, and crucifixion were just hours away. This would be His final meal with those He loved, and He would use this moment to give them a lasting message of love, service, and sacrifice.
As the disciples gathered around the table, their thoughts were far from the gravity of the moment. They had been arguing about who among them was the greatest, still clinging to the hope that Jesus would establish an earthly kingdom and that they would have prominent roles in it. But Jesus, knowing their hearts, saw an opportunity to teach them a profound lesson.
