Life Back in Chiang Mai S5E22
I'm back in Chiang Mai Following my trip south to Thailand's capital Bangkok and some of the beautiful Thai beaches and the lovely Koh Chang. And after hiding in my apartment from the heat and the tail end of Smokey Season it is time to take care of a few things, like my 90 Day report to Immigration.

Pattaya is not just a night time party city, there are plenty of daytime activities and destinations! As you know I like walking in Thailand, so I decided to go for a walk along Pattaya Beach, with no particular destination in mind. Little did I know that it would end up being a long walk up to a landmark, the Pattaya City Sign. I have retired and currently live in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on a No...

Welcome back to BKK 🤗😊🫰❤️🎊🎉
Thanks. I really do enjoy visiting Bangkok these days.
Hello, I am also in Thailand, thanks for sharing🎉
Hi. I hope you are enjoying your time in Thailand as much as I am enjoying mine.
Your clips are worth watching. The pictures are clear and easy to follow. You seem like a polite person. Make people watch Must follow all the time Always support you
Thanks very much for your kind words and support.
Hello, how many months have you been visiting Thailand? Thank you for sharing this video.❤
Hi @ramatkhmat. I am in my third year of living in Thailand now. I live in Chiang Mai and travel around a little bit. My first visit to Thailand was in 1999!
Great selfies, thanks!
Thanks
Although I'm a subscriber I think this is the first time I've really watched your blog. There are three... take-aways #2 Spend the money and get a proper shave. #6 Let's meet up for a pint one day. #143 Find Shelter in case you're caught out without an umbrella.
Thanks for taking the time to watch one!
May I have permission to use the clip to expand on it or cut it to make a documentary?
Thanks for your interest, this channel is a hobby for me in my retirement, and due to my personal circumstances I don't allow my videos to be used by others. Good luck for the future.
Jeez... bring 1000's to Trat!! Great idea. One of the unspoilt town in Thailand
Given the number of views I get, I think Trat might be safe form a huge influx of visitors.
Kevin, wouldn’t it have been easy, safer & more relaxing to take a train! I, myself would not take a bus or minivan anywhere in thailand because of the dreadful road accident statistics in the country- not worth risking your life. It’s bad enough having to take a taxi 🚖 from Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya and back but that’s a risk I have to take. Anyway, stay safe and enjoy your travels 😊🙏🇬🇧 fly whenever possible, everywhere
Hi Martin. I do prefer Train travel in Thailand, but sadly no train available to Trat.
Looks like a nice quiet place, i like that. It is nice to hear you can attend your lessons online, i hope more schools offer that, so you don't have to stay at 1 place the entire time. Have a nice holiday.
Thanks Peter I did enjoy my time in Trat. It is a peaceful friendly town. Well worth a visit.
G'day Kevin, Trat looks nice 👍
Hi Mark, yes Trat is a nice place. I did enjoy my time there.
7/11 comes in handy for breaking big notes. I'm considering staying at the same condo, yours looks nice and comfortable , and the baldony is great, is it easy to get a condo there or are they usually full?
I've got a condo here twice with no problems. Had a few to choose from on each occasion. If you come in high season maybe less available. Plenty of condos around town though. Have a look at a few, see what you like. Some of the balconies are better than others.
Probably 300 for the tuk tuk lol
Well perhaps 😁, if I took a tuk tuk. But I was actually In a free shuttle from the hotel to the BTS station. In a tuk tuk you might also spend your day in a gem sales room 😁
@@52weeks52 oh there you go, looked just like a tuk tuk
@@52weeks52 and right, I have never been in a tuk tuk.
The shuttle is basically a very large tuk tuk.
Niman is a great area
Yes quite a trendy area
Great tourist selfies, thanks!
Did you get your stuff back?
Yes, waved me over as soon as he saw me come out of the building, next time he was out the front.
That river looks like a cold cup of tea
It some times gets a bit that way, especially after rain. It reminds me of the Yarra river in Melbourne in my youth.
Nice digs mate, do you have to watch the TV sideways?
Yes 👍 I am very happy and comfortable where I live. I actually don't watch TV That much, but when I do I normally throw pillows on the floor and lounge 😁
Oh you're still there, I thought you left after 52 weeks. I think I've seen that condo online, it's riverside condo isn't it? I'll be coming back this year, I can't wait, I left in 2017, I love it there.
I came here for 52 weeks in 2019 to test if I would like living here rather than just being a tourist. After that I went back to Australia to finish up at work and sort out my stuff before moving over. But I got locked into Australia in the great upheaval! I've been back for a couple of years now. Yes it is a well located condo I think. Good luck with the trip back.
Thanks buddy. I'm really enjoying your videos, watching them makes me feel like I'm back there.
Thanks I'm glad you are enjoying them.
I watched till the end 👍
Thanks.
How long are the Thai leasons and how often?
The Thai language lessons I do cost 2900 baht for 4 weeks. 3 lessons a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). 2 hours per lesson.
I was hoping to find a school that offers an education visa, it would probably cost a lot more.
The place I go to (TSL in Pantip Plaza) does offer Ed Visa courses. As far as I can tell most of the language schools do. They offer 3, 6 and 12 month courses. I think the 3 month course at TSL is 19,000 baht, which includes a cultural lesson on Saturdays, and help with the visa application I think.
That's great, thank you for the info
From ample comments by our loaded American cousins in Thai forums, they might struggle with a $500 daily budget - never mind 500 baht! lol
It is certainly possible to spend a lot of money in Thailand, if you are determined to do so!
@52weeks52 It's a blessing having a frugal mindset - no deprivation involved in being a so-called Cheap Charlie. When you find a restaurant which offers exceptional local food for 50-60 baht, or decent accommodation for under 500, it gives you a kick. It leaves you more money in the bank for items that really will benefit you - a decent camera for wildlife photography, or wherever your interests may lie...
Very true. I don't feel like I am missing out on anything and can always have a night out or travel when I want to.
The breakfast kooked good, toast instead of salad would be better 😊
Some toast would have been nice, but sometimes you just have to take what you can get. I normally select from their Thai menu which is quite good too.
I miss chiang mai so much, that market didn't exist when i was there in 2017
It seems to be a local community effort from that section of the old city. It was quite busy around Loi Krathong time. When there were lots of tourists, but probably not so much now with all the smoke around.
Lovely restaurant
This is one of my favourite places in Chiang Mai, great atmosphere, and good food.
Like you said, was not too hot, and imo it was not really crowded, perfect combo for a market. I always see so many pretty things (artwork) for decorations, but always hard to take with you when on vacation. Soon, when i live there, i will def buy some stuff, hehe. Enjoy your trip!
Yes it is a huge market with a great variety of things. It can get very busy there though. But the last few times I have been there it was not too crowded.
To go to Trad which is east, you should have gone to Ekkamai bus terminal. Mochit is mainly for north and northeast destinations.
Thanks that makes sense of my observations and only being able to find one bus to Trat! Thanks for the advice.
Nice one Kevin 🙏😊🇬🇧
Thanks Martin.
it looks like it 🌧 yesterday, hope it's better today
Last year it started clearing in April a was pretty much gone by songkran. So hopefully it is getting better now.
If I told you that there are thousands of types of Thai food, you wouldn't believe it. But if you can eat spicy food I think you must believe me. One day
I would believe it! And hope to be able to work my way through as many of them as I can. I can eat spicy though some of it is still too much for me, but my spicy level is developing.
@@52weeks52 Overcoming spiciness is difficult. When I was a child, I shed many tears and suffered from spiciness. It took many years to stabilize. It is difficult for most Westerners. But when your tongue gets to know it well Happiness will happen. Because spicy food is beneficial and helps balance the body well.
It's true. The more I can eat the happier I am.😁🙏
Just Subscribed, We have a bit in common, Enjoying your videos and looking forward to your future ones...Cheers mate

Looks like a peaceful walkroute, enjoy your trip to Aussieland :)
It is a very peaceful walk route, quite refreshing in the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. I enjoyed my time in Australia but am also very happy to be back in Chiang Mai now.
look like you had a good time. ;)
Yes I did have a good time. It is a really nice walk to do.
Hello, I saw your TH-cam channel and a very nice video on your channel. I really enjoyed it. I noticed one thing: according to your channel, your channel videos are not viewed or subscribed to. You need to optimize your channel and do video SEO to reach your target audience. Otherwise, if you upload videos to your channel throughout the year, none of your videos will get viral views. Do you want to talk to me about this?
Thanks for your kind words, and for reaching out. For me this channel is my hobby, so I am not all that concerned about going viral, but thanks for the offer. Take care and good luck.

Get yourself back to Thailand asap Kevin, the vast majority of your subscribers are only interested in that to be honest, everywhere else is just utterly boring to be honest
I must admit I do like being in Thailand, and the plan is to continue living in Chiang Mai, so there will be plenty of videos coming from Thailand soon.
Fish 'n chips looked arroi :)
They were indeed.
I also learned the language about 10 years ago and for sure still not a pro at it because it is rusty atm. But i always like to read the street names or the shop names. It is so funny because for example a shop is called Tony Electronics, and when you read the thai language, they write it exactly tooniii eelektroniiics. It is weird to explain, but i am sure you get what im saying :)
Yes I know exactly what you mean. I'm still very much a beginner with my Thai language. It takes so long for me to read signs, I think the Thai people must think why is that strange man staring at my shop

Hey Kevin, Love your videos they are so calming to watch. I am a video editor and would really love to work with you. I can edit your next video for totally free. Please let me know your thoughts on this and how we can connect.
Thanks Umair Afzal, I am glad you enjoy my videos. And thanks for the offer. This channel is my retirement hobby, so I like to keep everything in my hands including the editing. Thanks for your support, and good luck.
I lived in Bangkok for 10 years and tired of it. Getting dirty feet from the pollution and sitting in traffic jams being the down side to it. One of the motivations for leaving was living in a condo paying rent every month, which adds up over 10 years. Now happily living in a Issan village house up in Khon Kaen province which is our house, no rent, utilities are very small and the internet is super fast. Also there is never a dull moment despite the rural setting. But cities have place so nice to visit from time to time and the river in Bangkok is always interesting. One has to remember people are drawn to cities for work and this is no truer for Bangkok. Enjoyed your video so thanks for sharing.
Wow 10 years in Bangkok. I don't think I would like to live in Bangkok, but I do like to visit every now and then. I haven't been to Issan but it's on my list. Hopefully in the next year.
Another kind, creative and openminded soul discovers the land of smiles. And it seems she is enjoying it, why am i not surprised? 😋 Enjoy your time together and make the most out of it!
Although it was a flying visit we had a great time in Bangkok. And packed a lot in!
I like your Video ❤
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
