I remember in the early 70's we had the Chargin' Rams playing there. Smilin Bob used to talk about them on the radio all the time. Used to Bowl on Sat Mornings at Park lanes and remeber them practicing or playing across the street.
I left Springfield in the early 1960's. I guess a lot has changed since then. Back then, I recall we pronounced that road like Bur nette' similar to Bru nette'. It must have changed after I left. Kind of like Bush'nell that I heard in past few years as Bush nell'. When did that happen? I married a fellow from Springfield so when I come across these familiar words(from our childhood) being pronounced totally different from those 1st years of my life living in Springfield, I write the word down and ask him to pronounce it for me. He pronounces the word exactly as I remember and not what I've recently heard. I wonder why that is. Anyone?
I'm a born and raised Springfieldian--1985. It fascinates me to see what downtown used to look like. I've only every seen static pics and heard stories from my Grandparents. Thanks for posting. It was really cool to see it all in action.
Most of these are my mom, Sue (Whip) Elkins-Wagner, her father Ray Whip, her mother Marie (Nigh) Whip. The young man is her brother, John Whip. My mother is now 83 years old. She has fond memories of skating at Hodges. Sorry to see the building torn down.

Dear Santa, This is all I want for Christmas. :)
Love it, Dick! Now, I can understand you not wanting the tailor to make you a red dress, but what about the wig hat and boxing gloves?
