It’s very important to do these pattern plays over and over again. This way when the time, it will be second nature, just like breathing air!

I don't care what they tell you, entering on your off-wing is key. You have a greater scoring opportunity if you keep your stick blade within the high-scoring zone. If you move into the dead zone, and then place a goalie in the way, it becomes harder to score, so always attack in numbers!

The trick to playing hockey is always head-manning the puck. Remember, puck supporting is the concept of assisting the puck carrier to make a pass that you can catch.

Rules are important to follow during the game. These rules will help you score goals.

This is key! "The player without the puck goes behind!"

Let me tell you something. No one like to see a player go 'end to end' and miss the net or shoot at the goalies stomach. Always attack in numbers!

Understanding the 45-second shift is a very important tactic for your players to learn. Why? If you're going to win, you need to get fresh legs on the ice every 45 second. This is why it's important to understand why 'Goal Setting' is so important. Now, most coaches don't understand the kinetics of the muscle structure and why you need to shift players every 45-second. Here's why! When you start skating, in order to provide speed in your stride, you have to skate with 55-degree leg bend. After 8-second, the muscle starts to hurt do to the energy conversion from glucose (sugar) into lactic acid. This lactic acid is what actually makes the legs muscles hurt. Then, once the player has been on the ice for 30-second, he/she starts to stand up to relieve the muscle cramp. Once this happens, the speed is reduced because of no more leg bend. Now, to help get that acid out of the muscle, it's every important for the players to drink water on the bench even if he's not thirsty. This help flush the acid out of the muscle. Now, for every one minutes of muscle work, in order for the muscle to recover, the muscle needs two minutes of rest. This is why it's important to carry three full lines.

This is a great video to help you explain to your players about goal setting. This video breaks it down into the numbers so your players know exactly what they need to do their reach their goals.

Now, 'Bench Management' is very important, especially when changing on the fly. However, one extra thing you can do before you go to the bench is to make a cheat sheet of what players are on what line. Plus, always have a coaching board on the bench.

A lot of coaches LOVE DUMP and CHASE! I am not one of them. If you can't penetrate the attacking zone, send it back to your defensive partner and regroup by cycling! HELLO!!!

Always move the puck towards the weak side! Ok, what happens when you get there? Well, it becomes the strong side. So now what? A simple drop pass behind the can quickly that the strong side / weak side!

Can you score a goal in the Dead Zone? Yes! But those goals are score because goalies make mistakes. You have a better chance of scoring if you move into the slot area and the "Shooting Alley"!

One of my favorite tactics to use at the first drop of the puck at center ice. Did you know that the other team can tell just how good of a team you are, within the first 5 -second! Opening up time and space, will take your team to the next level.

I heard a coach ask one of his players why he iced the puck? The players said… “You said that if the puck crosses the goal line, we get a goal!”

How, before you do anything as a coach, you have to make sure that all the kids are on the same page. Just because they have joined a team to play, doesn't mean they know how to play. Start off by talking and showing the basics. Don't expect all the kids on the team to know everything about hockey. Odds are good, half the kids don't know what a neutral zone is.

Yeah, we are working on that. The video is designed to be placed on our page where we will sell that book. One of our problems is turning the video in such a way that they are sideways, but vertical. This way, it will look correct when a coach turns the phone horizontally. Suggestions are welcome.
