Photogrammetry for Better Design
TRI Transmission and Bearing Corp. uses photogrammetry in the design process. Photogrammetry is a 3D scanning technology that uses a camera. By using this technology, TRI is able to create accurate 3D models for design validation and design communications.

TRI was contracted to install new seals on a main boiler feed pump, but disassembly of the bearing housings revealed a much bigger problem. The thrust runner was loose, and this led to the damage of both the pump shaft and the thrust runner bore.

      Inside the rotating element is swirling oil that is in the shape of a torus. The scoop tube skims off of the inside diameter of the oil-torus, reducing the amount of horsepower that the fluid drive can transmit. In short, it controls the output speed of a variable speed fluid drive.
