You must travel about 22 miles down River Rd to access the mines. River Rd is a rugged unpaved road, a high clearance vehicle is recommended. These mines were in operation from 1900 to approximately 1943.

Great video and beautiful campground 😊
Thanks for the follow up!
Each site is equipped with cable still. WI-FI is available only at the bathhouses. Laundry at both bath houses.
Very helpful review ! We have bookmarked this for when we get back that way. Seemed like a good time to visit that area. Your videography and narration is excellent and points out great detail. Your spot did look great - love camping by the water! May the new year be good to you :)
@@bobanddangsjourney thank you!! Happy New Year to you! And happy camping!
This campground is terrible. I camped at site 3, and we were smelling the pit toilet all night. I’ll never camp here again.
@@bikeflu sorry you had a bad time there, we loved our time there, and didn’t smell anything from the pit toilets, but we usually camp these places in the winter when it’s basically empty. Most of these government-run primitive campgrounds have pit toilets, so that might be kind of hard to avoid. Maybe try DeSoto Falls campground in Cleveland, sites 14 &15 are creekside, but much further away from pit toilets.
I watched your video about Deep Hole - just got back and loved it! I drove by Frank Gross on the way home and now I have 6 reserved for April. Great videos - thank you!
@@arielriley1 . I’m so very happy to hear that these videos have been helpful to you! Thanks for letting me know! I hope you have a great time there in the spring, happy camping!😃
Good information. A good campground map would be helpful to know which entrance to use so it would be easy to back your trailer. Is there firewood available for purchase nearby or do you gather your own .
@@steventhomas7504 thank you for the feedback, I’ll try to include maps for future campgrounds. Lots of local small businesses and residents sell firewood around this campground, so we just purchased wood from them. Most of them were only charging about 5$ for a reasonable sized bundle.
Your house look beautiful thanks for sharing
What generator you use?
@@CatWoman-u9m . Hi there, I wasn’t using a generator this particular trip, as the campground had electric hookups.
Seem your video I will buy me one 😂
love these videos. super helpful in planning future trips for sure!
@@intotheoutside4299 . Thank you! I’m glad that you find them helpful!

Thanks for visiting our lake! Nevada Beach is our favorite too, but you're pronouncing "Nevada" incorrectly. Us Nevadans are a bit picky about that.
@@poidog999 . Thanks for the feedback.
Awesome A must on my bucket list. Howdy from Arlington Texas ❤
@@mandujanojuan437 hi there! Yes, you should definitely do this trail some day! All the boulders were really cool to look at.
Great exploration Ruins should be protected with a sealer to prevent erosion. They won't be around too long if they are not protected 😢
@@mandujanojuan437 I wish more was done to preserve these too. It’d be a shame to see them completely disappear.
Awesome find. No graffiti on ruins ❤
@@mandujanojuan437 absolutely! I was glad to see that too, I always hate seeing ruins destroyed by graffiti.

@@tito2928 . Thank you! Happy camping!
You should tried it before the doing the video, so it wouldn’t be confusing for you.
@@Sisterg618 . Thanks but no, as I stated in my description, the whole point of this video was to show the initial setup and first thoughts. And at no point was I confused, I started assembling the tent immediately out of the box, as I stated in the video, it’s not rocket science, simply a matter of taking your time to the thread the poles, which takes a little longer when you’re working alone.
Appreciate the thorough review!
@@cowboypenguin . Thank you! I’m happy to know that you found this useful! Happy camping!
Me and my wife stayed at Hamilton Branch State Park in Plum Branch South Carolina. It's on the same lake and the sites are spacious with water access. I believe I saw a sign for Winfield when we crossed the dam going into Georgia to check out another SP that was like an RV resort but it was a SP!! Gonna put this on my CG list. I'm in Apex,NC Site 54 was Da Bomb!!
@@alanosborne1947 hi there! Thanks for sharing this with me, I hadn’t heard of Hamilton Beach State Park. I would like to explore more of South Carolina once it warms up, so this info is right on time! Happy camping!
Don't go to Cottonwood, its dry and desolate there. Rio Grande Village is green and not dusty, not to mention that you can go to the grocery store onsite and get a cell signal. No amenities at all there.
@@theunknowntinman different strokes for different folks. I actually hated Rio Grande village, it was too crowded and busy for my liking. My favorite was the secluded backcountry site Hannold Draw, followed by Cottonwood campground second.
Great review!

I appreciate the walk through tour. I live about 30 minutes from there and I grew up with Dad launching the boat at Doll Mtn. That was long before the campground. A few years ago I stopped in while on the way to Ellijay. I asked the camp host if I could do a drive through so I would know which sites I might like to book. I was turned away.
@@keithbrookshire , Wow, sounds like you have some fond memories of Doll Mountain! I hope you get to enjoy some camping there soon! Thank you for letting me know this was helpful to you, comments like this make it all worth the effort.😃 Happy camping!
Wow those are beautiful. You captured it wonderfully too! Tons of mushrooms there - neither one of us knows our mushroom species well - but always interested when we hike and see them. We need to visit that area one of these days. Thanks for sharing!
@@bobanddangsjourney Hey there! Thank you! I absolutely love your channel by the way! It’s honestly some of the best videography I’ve seen! And your storytelling is superb! Super cozy. Certainly missed doing these kinds of things when I lived in Oklahoma.
@@ZinChromeX Indeed! I love camping! I’ve never been to Oklahoma, but it’s on my radar for 2025! Do you have any recommendations for remote camping spots?
@ I only lived in the city parts, which was Broken Arrow and Tulsa. They’re quite like Hickory and Charlotte (but way bigger), respectively. Though I did live there for seven years, I never did hear of anywhere that would make good spots. Just imagine a bare, flat landscape and VERY few trees. In short, my personal opinion is to not go if you still prefer forest settings.
@ , gotcha! That’s good to know, thank you!
Love Tahoe!
@@AltaCine4k , I loved it too! One of the most beautiful places I’ve been so far.
We go down there once a year and go over to Collins the next town down on 59. They have a huge flea market on Saturdays. Great video. Take care.
@@davidthacker3213 hi there! Thank you so much for telling me about the flea market! I haven’t been to a flea market in years, but I used to love going them. I will definitely have to check it out next time I’m in the area. 😀

@outdoormary you're welcome
Your vehicle is still not close enough to the tent Your back bumper should be RIGHT UP on the opening.
@@CanadianJaze . While it may not be the correct way, I actually prefer it like this. Now that I’ve had the opportunity to camp with it more, this way suits me best. I like not stepping directly into the main body of the tent as I get out of bed, this gives me a small corridor to step into instead. It feels more spacious and creates more separation between my living & sleeping quarters. And it doesn’t adversely effect the weather tightness at all. I recently camped during a storm in the Nantahala forest, and absolutely no rain got in. It’s working well for me, I got no complaints.
Any update?
@@hrobledo . The tent holds up great to bad weather. I went camping in the Nantahala National Forest for 4 days and a storm came through . Absolutely no problems with the wind and rain. Unfortunately my SD card got corrupted and all the images were lost, so there won’t be a video about that camping trip. As much as I appreciate how well it did in the storm, I will be looking for a new SUV tent. The complete lack of windows with this tent is not something I can deal with. The only way to get fresh air in is to leave the front door unzipped, or completely remove the rain fly, not ideal.
@outdoormary ty for the update. Have you tried screen sheltered camping at any state park?
@ . I’ve only done that once actually, in a park in Texas, I don’t remember which one now. Unfortunately I haven’t encountered many parks that offer screened shelters in my neck of the woods. But maybe I just haven’t looked for them. I usually just tent or car camp when it’s not feasible to drag along my travel trailer, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled for more screened shelter opportunities, that would be incredibly convenient.
I've been to Tahoe several times, and never realized this island was here. 😆Thank you for creating this and capturing such beautiful scenery.
@@CringeworthyOverland thank you !!! I’m stoked you saw my video! I saw an awesome video you made about a year ago about Page Arizona, and I’ve been watching ever since. I absolutely love your channel! All your videos are beautifully done, and your’re hilarious ! Thanks for watching!😀

Very beautiful area and day 😮
@@jclikespam7791 it really was beautiful! And one of the prettiest lakes I’ve ever seen!
We use to go there all the time. Every month, sometimes twice, but when they put up the sll night sodium vapor lights, We quit. Too much like a Wal Mart parking lot all night long. Found some other campsites that are better. Beautiful area to visit. We have been staying at Cherokee Rock City. No lights, hot water showers, I mean hot. Great. Everyone loves it. A much younger crowd to be around. Rock climbing and adventure trails.

There are NO good campsites in Vogel, the most overrated park ever. Too many dogs, too many unsupervised kids, too much noise, sites much too close together, no views of any kind from the sites.
Big Bend National Park is an awesome place.

Does this solar panel work if only half open inside car dashboard?
@@harrg2615 . I haven’t tried it under those circumstances. But I’ll try that exact scenario tomorrow, and I’ll let you know what I get.
Thanks i will wait for your results @outdoormary
@@harrg2615 well, I finally had some sunshine today. I tried the scenario and got zero watts coming in. That being said my front windshield is tinted overall & has an extra dark UV strip at the top border, and the rest of my windows have dark tint as well. So perhaps your results would be better if your windshield has less tint.
Thanks. I will leave that idea charging from inside the vehicle
What type of AC are you going to use?
It’s just a little 5k btu window unit that I got from Walmart. I use it a lot in the summer when I tent camp, especially since it gets really hot in Georgia. It works pretty well . I linked a video of my other tent with the AC setup if you’re curious. Air-Conditioned Tent Camping in Georgia Heat. th-cam.com/video/GoKMDY5Tiuk/w-d-xo.html
The power source, please. This is living. 🩷🩷🩵🩵
Hi there, this was at a campground that had electricity available. But when we camp off- grid we use solar panels to keep our GRECELL power boxes charged, these power boxes keep our phones, tv, small electronics powered. Then we have a 4500 watt Champion generator if we need to power the refrigerator, AC, and microwave. The generator alone could power everything in the tent on it’s own easily, but we try to minimize generator use.
I think you may need to back the car up a bit closer to the tent? Good job! I had a hard time putting up my truck bed tent up with the instructions & an expert camper to help!
@@lindatolliver thank you! I haven’t tried a truck bed tent, how do you like it?
