Watch this video before buying your first Mountain Bike
Hello guys my name is Ben and this is bad bikes and today we are going to figure out what is a good first beginner mountain bike. There are tons of videos out there telling you exactly what bike you should get. But that is not what I am going to do. Instead I am going to give you a list of things you should look out for when buying your first mountain bike. Let's get right into it.
First up let's talk about price. If you have a lot of money then this discussion is over just go out and buy yourself a nice bike at your local bike shop. But I'm assuming you want to get into the sport of mountain biking for as little finance commitment as possible. So With pricing we are looking at around 500$ for a good entry level bike. This will give you a bike that can shred as is and also be upgraded in the future. It is also worth mentioning that a bike under 500$ or even under 1,000$ for that matter will be a hardtail meaning there is no suspension in the back of the bike. A full sus or full suspension bike is beyond the realm of this video and can cost a lot of money.
Now for some things to look for when buying your first bike. Make sure that it has a derailleur hanger. This is a little piece of metal that is purposely made to fail so when your drive train hits a rock, instead of the rock bending or breaking your frame or derailleur it bends and breaks the hanger they are also easily replaceable. If you see a mountain bike with a derailleur hanger that is welded onto the frame steer clear of that bike.
Next up you should look for a threadless stem. You can identify it by two pinch bolts on either side of the head tube and four in the front. The threadless headset will be key if you ever want to upgrade your bike.
Make sure your bike also has quick release levers, and disk brakes. Quick release levers make it easier to work on your bike and reaper flats. Whale Disk brakes are more powerful than rim brakes and they can be easily upgraded in the future.
Ok that wraps up this video if you have any questions leave them comments down below and I will be happy to answer it. Thank you for watching as always my name is Ben and this is bad bikes and I will see you in the next video.
God Bless!

Love the channel man
Great info-thanks! More please!
You got it! I have tons of ideas.
Thx for leaving links 🙏 currently printing the cable clips!
Awesome!
Great prints and edit, keep it up man!
Thanks! Will do!
hi, as a bike mechanic, i deal with this every day: first step take pin out which is holding the brake pads in place, second step open bleed screw on top of ur brake lever, put a piece of paper over the open hole on the brake lever, now make sure ur lever is higher than the piston and that the lever is horizontal. Then press back the pistons with the brake pads mounted, this will keep ur ceramic pistons from breaking and will press them very even. Now close the lever with the screw and o-ring sealing (no sealing on magura plastic screw- also u might have to flip the leaver 180 degrees to have the screw on top with magura) and wipe away any oil with isopropanol. If you need a little bit of extra clearance, you can carefull press back the pistons directly without brake pads afterwards, just make sure to use a plastic wheel leaver. In this process the leaver screw should be remove beforehand ofc.
Are the two back wheels made out of rubber or plastic?
plastic
Great video! i have a 3d printer so I'll have to try a few of these. i also printed a dropper lever that's been working great
Nice! That's awesome.
I have both but I think I like my bmx better. Simple, affordable, low-maintenance and lots of fun to ride, even around town. I’ve even done 20 mile rides on my bmx before. It’s tough but not impossible (as long as there’s not too many hills)
I agree 100%. I bought and tested an AKASO EK700Pro for using on drones and mountain biking. I'm not even close to satisfied. Its image and video quality is so bad. video stablizer does not work well. You cannot see details in the video and image. From every technical and non-technical perspective, this camera is not worth trying at all.
Bmx are more.compact than mtb and its easy to carry than mtb. While mtb has a high cost of maintenance than bmx. Look we all know how robust and durable the bmx than mtb. And bmx are more agile than mtb
Nothing is truly complete or the best if it doesn't have a cup holder.
But can it make coffee??
Great comparison video. Explained it well. Easy to understand. Nice music choices as well. Thanks.
Whats the full sus name
Marin Hawk hill 2 2021
huuge! well done
Big Brutus!!
Love both of them, but if I had to pick 1 it would be a hardtail. That being said, I can jump way better at the bike-park on the FS
Keep up the good work
Will do!
Helped me a lot THANKS !!!!
No problem! Glad it helped.
@@badbikes14 Yeah bro just fixed my brakes today.Youre vids are great straight to the point no trash talks just pure content , KEEP IT UP MAN !!!!!
Great video, in the UK we use a hardtail in winter as it's easier to clean and won't get wrecked by all the mud. And a full suss in spring summer and autumn.
that is really cool to know! thanks for that info
Nice comparison, keep up the great videos! 🤙
will do!
❤
Crazy it has been a year - your video have gotten better along with your riding
It's been a fun year! Thanks for watching.
just did a full enduro build on a cheap walmart bike, its a beast
Nice 👍
is this a tubeless tire? what kind of valve is this?
they are not tubeless, but they do come with double walled rims so you can make them tubeless. And the bike comes with schrader valves. How this answered your questions and happy riding!😁
