This is a group for University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's iMBA students and alumni who are interested in discussing and exploring topics related to macroeconomics. We typically hold live discussions, led by Profs. Hadi Esfahani and Vlad Dolgopolov on a second Sunday of each month at 1:00PM Central Time and post recordings of our sessions here.
December 2024 Macroeconomics Hours - Institutional Economics and 2024 Nobel Prize Winners
In this month's seminar, we are discussing the field of institutional economics and the contributions of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences winners to this field. Why do some countries achieve high levels of economic growth and some do not? How do institutions, including culture, impact economic growth? Are the predictions of macroeconomists about convergence correct, and what might be interfering with the poor countries' ability to catch up with wealthier economies?
