I made the best choice when I decided to work on Sir Duke. I have no words to describe how much I learned along the way.
I think it's a MUST in any bass player's portfolio. The groove, the speed, and the crazy outro chorus will definitely push you off limits!

I had so much fun playing Colors from Black Pumas! 😀 6 minutes trying to keep up the groove. Tough one! Paying attention to the drum kicks, really helps but in the end, the whole song steals your moves.

Kinga Glyk's cover for Tears in heaven, in a slower interpretation. The biggest and hardest challenge I had, so far. Studying this cover has definitely improved my technical skills and being able to learn it in our bass community, made the whole process much accessible and FUN.
Cold - Chris Stapleton (different bass line)

I had to create a bass line for Chris Stapleton's song, Cold , before hearing the original one. So this is my 1st time creating a whole bassline. I tried do add more then a rhythm part, but not mess the harmony of the song. I have to keep going through this process in order to do it …faster. And better.

Reaching my 1st milestone with this Dean town - practice on a long scale bass. Crappy tone but hard work, that paid off later.
Today I realised I've been playing the opening fill rhythm wrong forever. The original is (like you play): 16 - (rest 16) - 16 - 8 - 8. Not: 16 -16 - (rest 16) - 8 - 8. Then I checked Nathan East, and he plays the second (wrong) version too!

Obviously, I try to leave behind exacly what I felt when I worked on a song, what challenges I had or what feeling it left me with. James is someone special...his bass lines are so intimate that you can't help but feel like a poet once you"ve played them. 😀
