Navigating Offshore Wind Challenges & Opportunities - A Panel with Industry Leaders
UTC's Marco Poisler led a panel discussion addressing the challenges and opportunities facing the maritime and logistics industries as more offshore wind projects take place. Along with panelists Melanie Kenderdine, Managing Principal at Energy Futures Initiative, EJM Associates, Joshua Singer, Offshore Wind Port Lead at Moffat Nichol, and Stephen Kelly, President of Sales & Business Development at Carver Companies, they delved into a wide variety of topics, covering everything from the vessels and vehicles needed to transport equipment, permitting, marshalling, skilled labor training, as well as federal funding for infrastructure initiatives supporting the industry and how the Jones Act comes into play with many of these government-funded decarbonization projects.

      I suspect because the only reason this transformer had to fly in a chartered aircraft was that there was a failure in planning. or it would have gone by ship.

    The last lead processing plant in the US was closed because of environmental issues a few years ago, today we probably have to import lead from china even to make our bullets. Transformer manufacturing requires a lot of dangerous chemicals. As is well known China's environmental rules are easier to work around, hence the corporations' profits are higher. It is almost mandatory that these factories be built very close to where these transformers will be installed. Power companies don't buy them very often. It takes several years to build the biggie ones so it takes a while to recoup your investment. Anyway, I hope you find this information interesting.
