1989 Kawasaki 650 TS Jet Ski (Highly Modified) Lake Run Part 1
Very highly modified 1989 Kawasaki Tandem Sport Jet Ski. My father bought this ski at a boat show back in 1989 when it first came out. Original owner. Has a bunch of modifications. Aftermarket impeller, intake grate, Mikuni carbs, Coffman's pipe and waterbox, FMF reeds, oil pump delete, and a whole bunch of others that I can't think off. No aftermarket head. Probably could use a good carb cleaning. Other than that, this ski has never seen any repairs in it's entire existence. This is the ski I originally started on. Ski sounds amazing for being 35 years old.

Is your ski a 717 or 787? I dig your trip and I'm planning one myself 🦾
@@brandonnoone176 The 1996 SPX model was the only model that had the 717. The 97-99 models all have the 787. & thanks. Michigan, especially Northern Michigan is absolutely beautiful my guy. The Great Lakes are so much fun. We started up in Copper Harbor & made our way down to St. Ignace.
That’s the first jet ski I ever rode. It was a rental. One of those deals for x amount of dollars per hour. It was me and my dad. Great times!
@@micahhittinger6083 Bought it in 1989, been running ever since. Even with mods this thing’s never had a problem.
How fast with the mods?
Just barely hitting 50. I think I got 50.2 mph on the GPS a couple of years ago. This thing was a dog before that. Owner’s manual said its top speed was only 35 mph lol.
Looks nice out there....love seeing the older ski's still getting it done!
Thanks. Yeah that 89 Tandem Sport he bought at a boat show right when it came out. Has a bunch of mods on it too, thing has never left him stranded or has broken down in the 34 years that he has had it. I bought mine last year & practically tore it apart. Previous owner neglected it. Finally got it running this Spring lol.

@@ExplorerPWC well his in the video is a Kawasaki, That’s riding close to me, mine with the camera is a 98 Sea-Doo SPX that has gone down for maintenance a few times so hopefully you have better luck than I have had 😂😂

Michigan’s U.P. is the best place to be if you love being by/on the water. It’s even better when there’s no wind or even a ripple across the water. Unfortunately the entire time we were up there, the wind refused to die down.
Try a worx intake grate and also trim tabs they help on that bouncing
I bought this ski last summer. I’ve been doing a lot of maintenance to it since I bought it. It had a cracked exhaust pipe, letting water in, bought a new one put that in. Cleaned out the old carbs only to have one of the butterflies bend, causing high idle & allowing ski to take off without hitting the gas lol, just put brand new carbs in it a week before this trip, & the gauges & VTS doesn’t work so that’ll be next on my list. The bouncing wasn’t really the ski alone, I was doing that on purpose trying to catch some air lol.
I have the trim set pretty even right now but yeah I need to fix that. Doesn’t do me any good in rough water.
