46: WE CAN Make A Stand for Our Oceans - Sea Shepherd
When the going gets tough the activists get tougher.
Our oceans are in distress as we continue to overfish marine ecosystems around the world. 90% of whales, 85-99% of shark species, trillions of fish, and countless other ocean animals have been lost due to overfishing, much of which operates outside of the law. Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing is a major enabler of the exploitation of our oceans but the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is standing in the way. Literally.
By using direct action techniques and what founder, Captain Paul Watson, calls “aggressive nonviolence”, Sea Shepherd crews document and disrupt illegal fishing and whaling on the open water. Featured on the popular TV series, “Whale Wars”, and in documentaries like Seaspiracy on Netflix, Sea Shepherd ships send illegal fishing boats running as they attempt to cover up their destruction of wildlife ecosystems and human rights violations. Tune in to learn more about the crucial work Sea Shepherd is doing to protect our oceans, which also means protecting our planet, and how you can get involved today.
SUPPORT Sea Shepherd: Learn more , volunteer, donate, and get involved at seashepherd.org/.
CHALLENGE: The Earth Warrior challenge. Make a choice to alter your habits or behaviors in a way that benefits the Earth. If you eat seafood, or animal products of any kind, you can choose to remove them from your diet completely, or partially if you need a transition period. Replace disposables with reusables for good. If you have the choice between car, train, bus, or plane, choose train or bus - or bike. Or build volunteering with an Earth-focused organization into your routine. Choose something that you know will have a powerful impact on the health of our Earth and take action on it that you can sustain. Tell other people about the choice you’ve made and why you’ve made it. The more of us who become Earth warriors the more hope we'll see by making our hope active and alive.
TAKEAWAYS:
1. We are more powerful than we realize.
2. When we take a stand we can transform the world.
3. Hope without action is lifeless. We must take our hope and make it active.

Aurora is the most grounded person I have ever seen. Being able to find joy in the simplest things on such a visceral level is something I aspire to experience being on this blue ball in the expanse of infinite space and time. It's therapeutic to hear her speak. Not only is she a good person, but it radiates from her.

Aurora's answer to the question about writing about things bigger than herself was wonderful. She alludes to writing about what one knows. I would like to suggest, and even to believe that Aurora is in herself a blooming image of the Goddess - our Mother, Nature, who goes by more names than I dare begin to attempt to list here. And so for her to be dinging about our home and the way some of us consider an appropriate way to treat it is altogether natural. We are not naturally destructive. We are more capable through our faculties of reason, logic and advanced empathy to fill the occupation of Custodian of Nature than we ever have been before. Our quest, perhaps, is to come together and oust the destroyers. Aurora has a voice that brings so many like-minded people together and has become thus in record time. If she chose to, she could embody that greatest of non-Olympian, human Empresses, Medea, wield power enough raise the greatest of armies in service all things divine, to occupy that throne and reintroduce some of the magic we've allowed ourselves to lose to the corrupt monsters currently herding us like cattle in all the most agonizing and unnatural directions. But why should she? She's a beautiful symbol of a free person altogether undemanding of our reverence while being seemingly infinitely generous, too. I'm an old fart now. Jadedness and cantankerousness have become the twain principle aspects of my base self, but when I listen to Aurora's music, listen to her speak and even just enjoy watching her be funny and eccentric for the sake of it, a little it of my youth returns and with it, a whole lot of the idealism that I used to throw around by the psycho-spiritual truckload and seem to have run out of as I allowed myself to be drawn in more and more by all those crooked, destructive, warmongering and greedy bald-faced liars working daily to convince us that they are stronger than us well-meaning, altruistic Aurora-fan types. She truly is amazing. And this was a wonderful interview. Thank you, "We Can Remake the World". Subscribed. Let's enjoy watching you grow bigger and bigger together now. I'm totally down for a little world-remaking.

At 32 minutes in: ' technology is not innately bad or good '. Sadly, interoperable surveillance playtables (designed by the war-machine of MIT, to feed children in the larger 'childcare' centres - globally - to billionaires' impact markets/to robotics research and development/to 'humanise' Ai systems . Without parental consent) are NOT neutral tools. This is unwaged child labour, without parental consent (and children, ofcourse, cannot consent). I would really appreciate someone passing on this information to Vandana Shiva: refugees/ children in the larger 'childcare' centres/ the disabled (including indigenous peoples with intergenerational trauma) have been commodified via billionaires'/'peoplenaires' impact markets since at least 2008. This is modern slavery, pushed by the 'Crown-heads' of Europe/Vatican Bank/World Bank/ UN/WEF/ BlackRock /Vanguard etc. Adults need to speak against human capital futures trading. And against the multi-purpose 'education'-tech that feeds millions of children (and vulnerable communities) to a vicious imperialist future of 'reality-privelige' for billionaires/'peoplenaires' only. Parents are being ambushed, as this information (of multi-purpose 'education'-tech feeding impact markets/robotics R&D/Ai systems) is carefully curated. There is nothing complicated about gambling or slavery and even children understand (immediately, when it is explained to them) that if BlackRock's algorithms can place bets on children, they can also bet against them. We are children of the earth. Human capital futures trading is an abomination, just as the billionaires'/ peoplenaires' financialisation of nature is an abomination. Multi-purpose 'education'-tech (such as interoperable surveillance playtables) is not neutral. Be joyously defiant everyone. She sees the world in a different way... Sometimes it's hard to see because we have so many problems in life, there are so many bad things, but there are also so many good things naturally produced by our planet, nature itself. Small things like a simple snowflake is something magic. Aurora is a pure being, full of love and your songs reflect her magnificent personality. I literally love this woman is by far my favorite artist.

Thanks a lot for this great inspiring podcast! Food coops are wonderful, I'm a member of one food co-op operating in southern Poland. I think co-operatives are neither socialistic nor capitalistic, they are a part of a different kind of economy that will replace the current systems. I believe the number of co-operatives will grow quickly in the near future - what we need is indeed some momentum, after reaching some level, the wave of cooperatives as well as other similar initiatives such as ecovillages, organic farms and holistic schools will be unstoppable and will transform our world.

For any civilisation to truly arise we must do the following: 1. Free food for all 2. Free housing for all 3. Free medicine for all 4. Free education for all 5. A duty to properly take care of the elderly so they die in dignity... Ech

Thank you for having Aurora on! I'm an enormous fan of her....both her music, and who she is as a human. Her advocacy is wonderful....and I think it can all be boiled down to a fundamental right she's always fighting for: The right to exist. The right of nature to exist. The right of humans to be who they are and live how they choose. She has a lot of interests when it comes to various causes....but I think it all comes down to the right to exist, to not be suppressed or repressed or extinguished. I also love that she's a HYPER introvert. Lots of people claim to be introverts as if that earns you cool points or something. But Aurora is a legit mega introvert. So am I...so I relate a lot to her. And yet....she's figured out a way to put herself and her ideas and her creativity out into the world in a big way. She shows how introverts can still be themselves, not having to conform to the wider extroverted world's expectations, but still make an impact on the world nonetheless. It's very inspiring to see someone as introverted as me....do that, and do it successfully. I think her secret is that while she's very introverted....she isn't remotely shy or timid or a wallflower. She simply loves being alone....and derives all her energy from being completely alone. But she then uses that energy....to make some truly beautiful things happen out in the world. I'm glad she exists....I've never come across another human being quite like Aurora.
