Hunga Tonga-Hunga eruption viewed in Earth Simulator
มุมมอง 28ปีที่แล้ว
On January 15, 2022, The Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai Volcano erupted in the South Pacific. The event was captured by the geostationary satellites GOES-17 and Himawari-8. This footage is the original images, blended based on the geographic location of each pixel, and projected on to a 3D model of the Earth in my app, Earth Simulator. github.com/jpcopela/earth-simulator Timestamp: 4:00 to 8:30 UTC.
Blended vs. non-blended satellite images in Earth Simulator: Tonga eruption
มุมมอง 17ปีที่แล้ว
This video shows 4 hours and 30 minutes worth of images from Himawari-8 and GOES-17 of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga eruption in the South Pacific. Images are in 10 minute intervals and were blended using the application Earth Simulator. This video is a comparison of the blended vs. non-blended images. This video has been re-uploaded and modified to resolve a minor issue with blending and so that diffe...
Tonga eruption: Shock wave traveling around the world
มุมมอง 28ปีที่แล้ว
This video shows different angles of the Tonga eruption as it unfolded on January 15, 2022. The "Mid level Tropospheric water vapor" IR band (6.9 um) captured by GOES-17 and Himawari-8 allows us to see the shock wave travel around the world when we subtract each subsequent image from the previous one, showing the change in water vapor over time rather than just water vapor itself. Images captur...
Various Angles in Earth Simulator - August 22, 2023
มุมมอง 41ปีที่แล้ว
This is a simple test of the general functionality of Earth Simulator. Images are generated within the app and turned into video using ffmpeg. One image per hour from the geostationary satellites GOES-16, GOES-18, and Himawari-9 were used for this time-lapse. The sequence of regions shown is: North America, Central America, South America, Australia, and parts of Asia github.com/jpcopela/earth-s...

This is a short demonstration of my app, Earth Simulator, that allows you to download geostationary satellite imagery and simulate views from virtually any point in space. Stuttering is an artifact of the video recording software, and is not present in the app. github.com/jpcopela/earth-simulator

CUDA-OpenGL Nbody Simulation (corrected)

This is the corrected nbody simulation, notice how different the behavior is. The error in the previous video was due to multiplying each x, y, and z components of the distance between particles by the distance rather than dividing. A simple multiplication rather than division gives very different behavior. github.com/jackcop/astro-sim copelandspace.blogspot.com/

I love Zen Mind Beginner's Mind, but I thought this part would be funny out of context.
