Home is Where I Want to Be
Home is Where I Want to Be is a personal poem of sorts to being 20. As a current 20 year old who’s a junior in college, the question of what comes next keeps getting brought up. I’m drowning in the idea of moving on. It feels like I just started loving the only home that I’ve known for 20 years. There’s so much to embrace about the world around us and yet there never seems to be enough time to explore it all.
All my life I’ve felt alone. I wanted to hear from other people that they know this feeling. And I had to show everyone else who didn’t get it, what it feels like. This film is a hand reaching out.
If you happen to be reading this, and you happen to have a similar story, I want to hear it. You can message me @ // mooonrockss on Instagram. ( mooonrockss?igsh=MWFseGR1ZWk5NDVocw%3D%3D& )
Additional info
- All camerawork done by myself and Omari Brannen
- All editing and sound design was done by myself
- I did everything on my own lmaoo
- Sophie was the one who introduced me to Talking Heads hence the title (shoutout to Naïve Melody) in the very fields where I sat down and did my interview

Seeing this gives me a breath of fresh air. I found this film because someone shared it on their story, and I clicked. I can very much see myself in the way that you felt in high school. Feeling isolated and like you’re ready for a place with more, yet still having a love for our tiny little region. And seeing another queer person out there, living authentically. It hits home more when you find a person who came from a similar background doing these things. Thank you.
So much love and community to be found as a queer person in a rural area, wishing you the best on all your adventures 🫂
My face is DRENCHED as I write. But thank you so much for sharing such a vulnerable creation of expression and art. This time capsule for you could never be replicated in its honesty to where you’re at in your life. It was absolutely beautiful. 2:40s frame is just beautiful I love that shot of the water and sprinkled in. And the entire 8th minute with the music coming in and coming out and the head on the shoulder still. And getting to meet the sweet child that did it all for you and who you do it all for. It’s just what I needed to watch tonight and I feel lucky to have. Thank you again, I’m deeply inspired knowing you. Amazing job.
WAAAAAH, THIS WAS SUCHA A GOOD VIDEO :D really nice shots!
Thank you so so much!!! It was a one man production, so setting up the camera by myself was a little tricky, so thank you!!
I never comment on videos but just have to say; as someone who is writing a long dissertation on queer allegory in non traditional movies, the Muppets as an allegory has always striked me as a strong queer coding, its great to see someone get there first haha. Was so gad to see this come across my recommended feed, as a queer person Walter was an awesome character to see on screen and it was only in hindsight ive been able to read him as a queer allegory (explains why I watched that movie as much as I did as a kid). Great video essay!
THIS IS SO COOL!!! Good luck on your dissertation!!!
What a delightful video to be randomly recommended! I really love this movie and the Muppets, and the whole thing really resonated with me as a queer kid for all these reasons!
This is so wonderful! I'm so glad you resonated with it! I grew up on the Muppets and coming back to this movie with the intention of analyzing it was so much fun and I noticed so many more details (like how Walter finds his community of those who are like him later on in life and how it opens his eyes to a whole new world) which was so awesome
i have no idea why this showed up in my recommended. i haven’t even finished the video. but i completely agree
My man please, it’s not that deep.
oh, but it is! representation matters!
For you it may not be, but for myself and others, it is! Indirect representation can be valuable for those who don't understand the minority experience and would get that better understanding if the message was indirect. Plus, minority groups often have to look for characters to resonate with that are "coded" because putting a strict label on a character may not be allowed by higher-ups, or the creator doesn't want to restrict who can connect with a certain character, and wants the audience to make their own connections, but more often than not, it's the former that rings true. Regardless, this project was created with the intention of giving others a new perspective, if you don't agree with it, that's fine!
Unfortunately I don´t understand this little movie. Any explanations from Parrot Media?
