Icelandic Bind-off
This video demonstrates the Icelandic Bind-off.
This bind-off creates a nice decorative edge with plenty of stretch and is a great match for the Twisted German Cast-on.
Let's begin by knitting the first stitch and slipping it off your left needle (like an normal bind-off).
Then remaining stitches are bound off as follows:
1- Insert your left needle into the stitch on your right needle (knitwise) and slip it back to your left needle.
2- Insert your right needle into the first stitch on your left needle (purlwise) and then into the second stitch on the left needle (knitwise) pulling that 2nd stitch through the first stitch, proceed to knit that stitch and slip both stitches off your left needle.
Repeat until you have bound off all stitches. Cut yarn and pull through the last stitch.
I also show how to do this Bind-off by slipping the stitch back to your left needle (purlwise) instead of (knitwise).
Slipping knitwise gives an extra twist, which I feel matches the German Twisted Cast-On better.
Feel free to use whichever way suits you better.

    I have a question about this. If you know you’re going to be doing the ribbing 2x2, why can’t you do your cable cast-on in a 2x2 fashion instead of 1x1, so you wouldn’t have all that fuss of a set-up row?

    • @lo_rain_knitwear

      @@mikkiwachtel2870 I have tried to cast on 2 knits and 2 purls using this technique and the cast on edge has an odd twist to it. I prefer casting on and swapping the stitches which gives a much nicer cast on edge. I would love to hear if you know of a technique that casts on in 2 x 2 rib.

    Hi Lo! I’ve just discovered your videos and I would love to incorporate this stitch into one of my projects. I was wondering how/if this could translate into knitting in the round while keeping the holes offset? Would it work if I alternated rows starting K2 with rows starting K1? Thanks for your help!

    • @lo_rain_knitwear
      @lo_rain_knitwear ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi and thanks for reaching out. I had testers ask this very question and after a few attempts they all decided to work flat. The reason I have the K2 and K1 at the beginning and end of rows is 1-for seaming purposes and 2 - to off set the holes. So if you’re not seaming .. remove a knit 1 from each end of row and work a knit 1 only at the beginning of round to offset the holes. Also note that the row 1 has k2togtbl as part of the stitch. Row 2 wrong side row has purl 2tog. You wouldn’t be doing this row in the round so your fabric will look different. I have not attempted this myself because I feel seams are a crucial part of a garments structure and I prefer the drape of a garment knit flat versus in the round. Good luck!

    I'm looking for help on correcting a mistake row (eg if I did row 2 twice in a row, or row 3) --- when I frog down and take out the mistake row, I can't figure out how to start knitting again in pattern. I get a weird gap no matter

    • @lo_rain_knitwear
      @lo_rain_knitwear ปีที่แล้ว

      First off are you working the half fishermans rib the same way I am. Right side (K1B, P1.) Wrong Side (K all sts). If you need to frog an entire row, or by the sound of it several rows.... I would suggest frogging back to a knit row. The way I do it is.. (I don't use life lines). with the wrong side facing you and starting at the left edge, gently insert the needle through all of your stitches one at a time, being careful more stitches don't unravel from the row below... however if one does unravel place both loops on your needle and you can fix that later by following the video. As you can tell it is really hard explain to someone how to fix something without actually seeing the issue. If you haven't knit to far into the project there is always the option of starting over or inserting a life line in a row below. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    This is a good tutorial! I was looking for something like this for a long time. I understand how that seam gives structure, but I don’t understand how it prevents a garment from stretching. How does that work?

    • @lo_rain_knitwear
      @lo_rain_knitwear ปีที่แล้ว

      Once the item is blocked then you seam. Cotton yarn has no memory so it will stretch a lot. Having seams in a garment it helps to minimized the stretch. Which I thought was crucial in these pants because of the weight of them. Seams relieve the stress / pulling of the fabric.
