LOL, i knew you would catch that
I think my training as a music teacher often focused on developing excellence as a musician, and then further on as a music teacher, and I'm quite thankful for that! Business skills, however, often seem to be less emphasized and valued culturally in the music teaching world. Margie makes it really clear that studio teachers can be excellent as business owners! She seems to view marketing and business tasks as not another chore, but as something to take pride in and continually try to improve at-that was very cool to see a model of. She said something to the effect of, "If I can put in two hours (a week into marketing), and I get a meaningful, wonderful relationship with a student and their family for years to come, that's worth it." And that was such a great framing for marketing as a studio teacher.
Yes! Part of the reason I obsessed about marketing and business in the early days was so I did NOT have to worry about where my next student was coming from! It then turned into a real skill... And then I saw how this new skill impacted everything in my business... even including how I taught!

Thank you for sharing all this! These are very important points to consider when recruiting, although they are way too easy to dismiss as evident or just forget to address them. Know your role needs and its success criteria, transparent communications, understand that you get what you advertise, nurture and leverage your network, and continuous attention to the candidates pipeline, are the essence of a successful recruitment strategy.
