Mountain Cur Treeing a Raccoon
Here is a video of my Original Mountain Cur treeing on a wild raccoon on a late afternoon hunt at the end of July, summer of 2013. We were squirrel hunting and he treed this in less than 3 minutes after I turned him loose. Thankfully the summer heat has been mild. It was around 91 degrees. Not sure what this coon was doing out in this part of the day? It sure looked big and old. Our raccoon hunting season doesn't open til winter time so this lucky feller lived to see another day. Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoy and if you don't have a mountain cur get you one!

He'll hunt with me 24/7 and that is one of the things I love abou...
Original Mountain Cur Pup On 1st Caged Live Squirrel
มุมมอง 2.3K12 ปีที่แล้ว
This is our 11 week old Original Mountain Cur pup (our first mountain cur dog ever!) up close and personal, training with his first live squirrel! I am no pro but I think he is gonna make a fine tree/ woods dog!!(:
Nice pup
Thank you very much. He passed away 5 months ago at age 11. He is greatly missed what a dog he was there will never be another like him! Thunder!!!!
Nice puppy 😊
How much does a cur pup cost these days from a good hunting bloodline and one can just take them to the woods and slowly train them I suppose while hunting the squirrels !!!
I have no idea I haven’t been in the market for some time. A good Mtn cur can’t be beat in my experience Best breed ever.
thank you for sharing, hopefully it will be useful for all of us, healthy and successful for you
Thank you, to you as well.
Do y’all breed dogs and have pups for sale. I would like to get a pup if so
Love watching the video
What age do you start training them. We just got a brindle cur puppy that’s 3 months old. Only had him a week he seems really playful at times and will walk all over my property with me and other times he just wants to run straight back to the house. I have lots of questions. Thanks
How’d he do for you?
If you want some fur get a cur
I went to mtncurs.com, but I got a GoDaddy landing page. Looks like you need to renew it. Enjoyed the video. We don't hunt our cur, but he is highly trainable and we're looking for other things to train it for, like agility. Great dog!
What do you feed your dog
Mixed Madness An inexpensive high protein feed from the local feed store or high protein ol roy. They love it and it makes their coats shine.
outdoorsadrenaline what about kibble and bits my pup is about 4-5 moths old and pretty small would that be good for adding weight
@@mixedmadness1948 how's your pup doing now?
I own a original mountain cur that kinda looks like him. His name is buddy.
Tried your website. It didn't work. Has it changed?
leahb523 I haven't kept up with it.
How tall do mountain cues get???
Covert woriors depends on the bloodline and even then? I'd say 15 to 19 inches tall?
I love your mountain cur!
Covert woriors thank you he's a great boy.
I'm thinking of getting a cur. when you first take him out to the woods did you use a leash or GPS collar?
Oviraptor78 no leash no gps. just let him do his thing. as he got older (about 8 months old?)I did get a tracking collar with correction option. I highly recommend a gps collar. it could save you a lot of heart ache.
good looking omc, would love to have a mt curr pup out of this dog.message me back if you have any, thanks jr
Thanks! I don't have any pups at this time keep in touch with me I may do a breeding in late 2015.

+go to my website for my dog info I'll get in there and update it soon I've got some new ones to add and give me a call sometime thanks
will do THANKS
Good looking cur .. I own 2 myself great dogs ... did you ever finish him out ?
I still got him. Best dog on planet E.
How old is the pup in this video?
He was days old up unto 7 months old.
Don't listen to that granola eating dirty hippy yank brother. This is a southern tradition as much as the dog is,keep on keeping on.
Right on man!
Of course. Those grand Southern traditions like paedophilia and marrying your toothless cousins.
Is your dog an original mountain cur or just a mountain cur? Not sure how much of a difference there is but I'm thinking about getting one for squirrel
He is an original mtn cur by registration. There are different registries for the mountain cur breed. and different bloodlines within the registry. The different bloodlines may have different hunting traits and hunting styles.
I love dogs!. the Mtn cur seems to suite our needs perfectly. they are intelligent, loyal, and live to please. multi purpose hunting dogs. wish I knew of them years sooner!!
I have a Rat Terrier and looking to get him a big brother - was contemplating German Pointer, Coonhound or Mtn Cur - I hear great things about them ---
ochoaggie I don't think beagles would do very well on squirrel but you never know till u try have a Blessed day!!
these animals were released unharmed. and now I aim to humanely dispatch all treed game with a single shot to the brain. but thanks for commenting Sandra guess we all can't eat tree bark!
You are an assh0le. I can't believe you'd let your dog emotionally torture this poor animal. Says a lot about who and what is in your heart.
Don't watch it. Squirrels are not humans. They don't stress like a human either. The deal with far more worse things than this. They are one of the many animals the good Lord gave us to harvest. Let squirrels or raccoons get out of hand and they would ruin your house, knaw through the wires and the wood. People like you try to anthropomorphize these animals, they are animals.
Sandra Doyle I've heard that a few times before Sandra. Have a great day and I do respect your respect towards animals. I don't like killing but I've got to eat. All of these caged animals were released.

Nice! You think beagles would make good squirrel dogs? Thinking about getting a pair
Thats just awesome . Im thinking hard on getting one of these great looking dogs . They are pretty things too .
Beautiful pup!
There are several variety of cur breeds but in general depending on the breed they may have a strong instinct to tree or bay game and some will even catch game. Some dogs are more gamey than others and others seem to lack the drive to hunt. But if the hunt is in their personality I don't think you can stop them from doing what they were bred to do except keep them locked up all the time or on a leash. I would suggest grabbing your gun, turn your dog loose....and let your primal person come alive
I have a black mouth cur mix, she definitely has an interest in other animals (I don't want her to be a hunter). I was wondering what all is instinctual in the cur family, if you know? I don't want to suppress any instincts, I want to redirect them to sporty activities.
JJJarvis I would recommend trapping a squirrel a time or two and letting him bark at it and our then just take him to the woods and go hunting. If it's in his nature to tree it will come out naturally he just needs exposer to game rich habitat!
Hi, Can we exchange emails? I have a Mountain Cur/Lab mix and would really like to teach him to tree/track. I attempted when he was younger with minimal success but wouldlike to get some pro advice. He is now 9 months.he still has potential right?
Great video though and nice dog
I got the same type of trap
"come get some then!" Said, Said squirrel!
He just turned one year old I am very pleased so far. He is a game getter! Took him out last week, hadn't hunted him in months.....he treed a squirrel right away!! Hoping to get some good hunting videos on here in the next month or so. Thanks.
Thanks!
love that dog! looks like a pit
Get your pup from dogs that hunt out of dogs that hunt! 2nd thing i would suggest is getting your pup at 7 wks of age as they seem to bond better at that age. Make he or she a member of the family. Cage some game and let em do their thing. Take the pup to the woods OFTEN and don't expect 2 much. Get a gps collar he went out over a 1000yrds from me the other day. I've heard by 1yr you'll know if you have a keeper. Mines 9 months old now and he will go ALL day, tree regular but we got lots to go!
Thanks!
