Chris’s honesty is so important for bands everywhere to hear. Making music is hell and it’s beautiful and DEERHOOF FOREVER
such a great episode once again! hey, just a suggestion for a future episode: "Elysium" by The Velvet Teen - it is such a unique record and i'd DIE to get some insight from judah and the guys
Equilibrium inebriated our social graces have been displaced 🥵🥵🥵
What an absolutely GREAT album 🖤
Have ye any distortion pedals?
Great stuff thank you! Totally made my day! It's funny how different Mac and Laura's opinions are. I'm glad they balanced out (no pun intended) and we were gifted with this wonderful record to listen to for the past 30 years! Happy birthday Foolish!!! Cheers!
This is an excellent doc-/thank you
Like a fool
This artist sharing playback has happened on every important record I’ve ever been a part of. The reaction of one’s artist peers really matters. They serve the need for expert feedback as well as to start up the gossip machine. It’s typically an anxious time for the host, relaxed fun for the guest. Finishing a record is a very exciting part of the creative process, taking incredible discipline. Premiering it in a big way helps. A playback party, listening session with your peers. No more changes - this is IT! In theory, anyway. Inevitably, there will be a phone call or two which I can’t stand.
This was a great interview from a really great time in music. 1994 had so many great albums released that year….more than any other year since. Thanks for the hard work involved with putting this thing together! Now, I can’t wait for “Here’s where the stings come in”next year!😊
Is what's sad is those are poor Mia Zapata's legs!!! May she rest in peace and her rapist and killer roast in hell!!! Bless you Mia, you were loved and so fucking talented!!! TCH⚡
I love this channel so much. This record was a really big deal to me.
Oh sweet! So glad I found this today!!
I love these. Haven't watched it yet, just about to start. Expecting it to be great as usual. If it's less than great, I'll come back and delete this comment. So if you're reading this...another excellent one. Peace.
I always think of that special person when I hear this song, beautiful song.
Thanks for this one, really enjoyed it! Might be historical this….
I was 13 in Memphis at the time they were creating Big Star, birthday 11-24-1957. My first trip was in April 1971 at the Overton Park Shell for Poco and Marshall Tucker Band. That may seem irrelevant but I was there when they were developing but in early '73 we moved to Florida. I was in Memphis when RCA had signed Bowie. There was a big move towards the (for a lack of a better term "glam rock"), I was the first kid in my 8th grade class with a shag haircut. When I hear "13" I get taken back to Bartlett High School and all the beautiful kids that I knew 50+ years ago. Those dances and hanging in the "smoking area" were the day. ❤
I wanted to play guitar because of Steve Turner. I didn't know what a big muff was but found one.
give some credits to " Bluse in the closet "?
going to see them in sioux falls for the first time in october. so stoked!
One of my favourite albums of all time
The first two local Boston bands that I would see each time they play was Human Sexual Response and Mission of Burma and they remain two of my favorite local bands. I think this is a great album and also very representative of what it was like to see them play live. And I'm surprised that though I like every song on the album it's side two that has my favorites which is rare on anyone's album.
Solo on Einstein's Day, I agree with Peter, is amazing- Roger moves in Robert Fripp's territory.
"Other bands tended to be sloppy, which is fine, but that's not where we were at" and thats why im still spinning minor threat and bad brains 😅
The best thing about Melvins is their status as a band's band & a musician's musicians. Melvins are your favorite band's favorite band!
what did he s say
I LOVE Big Star. I HATE This Vid.
I just love Life of the Record. As a child of the 70's coming to music really in the 90's, I feel like you keep getting all of my favorite records. I feel like you are reading my mind in terms of what records are important. I was just telling someone how I always liked superchunk but really fell in love with them when foolish came out. I would say, 'keep out of my head', but I want you to stay in it and keep putting out these amazing episodes.

This is one of the most interesting listens I’ve heard in a long time
He is up there in talent
Best song ever. This album changed my life
I’m glad he hates Oasis like I do
A lot of people have a misconception that Buzz is jealous and bitter towards Kurt because of his success and fame. Nothing could be further from the truth. Buzz was close friends with Kurt and misses him. He just has an acerbic, snarky sense of humor and generally doesn't have much patience for all the music industry mythos surrounding Kurt.
I will always remember buying this LP when it came out - incredible!!!
Brilliant insight to a classic album. 😎👊
When did he say this? Because he shat on his Pixies album in his interview with Marc Maron in 2016. I'm pretty sure I know why he did it. He's very close to Kim, who always had a difficult relationship with Charles (who wrote all the songs), and needed to devalue the Pixies to big her, and her Breeders project, up. Not to suggest Albini was not one of the greats.
"Pressure to make a decent record," resulting in one of my top ten of all time. Perfect indeed.
Thank you 🎉
This is amazing! Thank you for putting this interview together
Thank you so much for this.... deserves more views LOL
I'm 104 and remember listening to this album as a kid. Still holds up today.
How can this not be bigger? So inspiring this. Grtz from the Netherlands!!
Am I the only person who hears this track borrowing it's driving melody from Johanneslut by 70s German electronic music group Roedelius? I came here to hear an admission that he was listening to Roedelius or something
I fell in love with Cursive pretty much immediately upon hearing them. I heard Ugly Organ first, but it was Domestica's guitar-work that made me appreciate the band so much more.
Steve Albini on regret over comments he made about Steely Dan and Aja
The best Replacement album! Skyway is a masterpiece.
GOD FUCKING BLESS YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME ITS SO GOOD TO FINALLY GET SOME MORE INFO ON IT WOOOO
I will be seeing my favorite band with my two teenage boys back to back nights in Salt Lake City in a couple weeks Sep 8-9th 2024!!!
What a gem. thank you
I still listen to Minor Threat. I tell my daughter, you have no reason to be wearing Doc Martin's without knowing Minor Threat.
