Maisie NACSW Summit, Appleton WI - 2 House Search
มุมมอง 1765 หลายเดือนก่อน
Maisie found 4 of 5 hides in this search. We were one of the very last dogs to run this, so lots of aging. Love her persistence and DRIVE TO SOURCE!! I believe the indication in the bathroom was from convergence, apparently quite a few dogs indicated there, so also slobber. Very challenging for a dog to recognize inaccessible from strong collection inside of a cabinet with essential oils. Is it...

This search was unknown # of hides and 5:00. There were 5 hides and Lucy got 2nd place and Pronounced in this search. She covered a lot of ground and it was interesting that she caught the interior hides from the pavilion over the concrete block wall hide. FYI- the bunk hide was actually under the front corner against the wall. Lots of lofting on that one. This was our 2nd Elite trial.

Woodstock GA - Super fun search. Fun to call an alert on just seeing your dogs feet. Lucy found all the hides, and I lost us half a hide. I don’t stress over No’s. I’d rather respond to my (mistaken) read than ignore my dog. No’s are just more drops in my knowledge bucket.
Never Too Old for Scent Work!

There is no such thing as “retiring” from nose work. Millie is 15 and still loves scent work. It’s a great way to provide low impact cardio and keep their minds working. Millie achieved her NW3 Elite many years ago and still 💓's this game. What is super awesome is that after she finds the pallet hide, she is actually working out the last 2 hides AT THE SAME TIME. Watch!! She solves the tires an...

Unknown number of hides, 4:00 Maisie found all 7 hides. This was a 1st place search by milliseconds. She was super fired up because we hadn't had an exterior search in the last 2 trials. Only 3 dogs found all the hides, we squeaked out the last one with 14 seconds to spare.

Maisie NACSW Summit, Union IL, Search 8 - Picnic
มุมมอง 12511 หลายเดือนก่อน
The last search of the weekend and Maisie still had lots of stamina to clear the search area and find all the hides in the fastest time. I appreciate that the CO set an Elite style search so teams could end on a high note after a challenging 2 days.
Maisie - NACSW Summit trial, Union IL - The Holy Moly Search #2

This might have been the funnest search of our career, at the Railway Museum. Maisie missed 1 hide, it was after hide 3 on the last seating area on the right. I moved in too soon when she entered that open area of the cabin, but we had 2 more train cars to search and our time was flying by. Maisie achieved her SMTx1 title and 2nd place overall. Day 2, 2nd search of our day. Maisie got 3rd place in this search and Pronounced. The parameters were 4:30, unknown # of hides (there were 3). Only 3 teams found all 3, I imagine the crack hide was left behind the most. It was cold with constantly shifting winds and gusts up to 30 mph, as you can hear. Maisie rocks her crack hides, and you can see how challenging it was to lock it down with the...
Lucy NW3 #2 - Vehicle & Exterior, Charlottesville, NW3VA

Lucy's 2nd NW2 trial with another 100% for her 2nd NW3 title, again earning 1st place overall. There were high winds for these searches, with the school building creating a lot of turbulence. Lucy obviously doesn't have a problem sourcing the single hide in each of these. She never ceases to amaze me with all the info she obviously has about the odor before we even get into the search!
Maisie AKC Master Interior - Leg 3
มุมมอง 291ปีที่แล้ว
Master Interior has an unknown number of hides, from 0-3 hides per search, but a maximum of 6 hides between the 3 interiors combined. There were 6 hides. We had the fastest time in this search, but I dropped a treat and received a fault. This was a super fun search in a great location with interesting hides. Maisie earned her Master Interior Title with this run.

Congratulations!!!! That was adorable. Thanks for sharing.
Wow!!! Go Team Maisie!! That was so fun to watch!!
Lucy was so fun to watch! She's so speedy!!!
Beautiful searching and well done!
I missed the last part of this was there a hide in that exterior or was it blank?
She found all the hides in both searches.
I'm having trouble seeing the alerts. It seems you don't train the dog to finalize on the odor, leaving it up to the handler to notice the dog's change in behavior (COB). This approach feels a bit different, but not necessarily bad. Also, I didn't really notice the dog's COB, but I wasn't physically there to notice sniffing patterns and other signs of cob besides physical aspects, with my EDD (Explosive Detection Dog) working dog we trained him as the following stimulus + response = reward so stimulus meaning scent (explosive odor) response is him (sitting) when he finds something which was positively reinforced heavily then the expectation of the reward (ball)
It doesn't mean the dog needs to sit every time for me to recognize something is hot. Observing the dog's change of behavior (COB) should be enough to determine if there's a threat. However, having the dog sit is an extra precaution to ensure clarity and safety. extremely important to have the dogs finalize with a sit on explosive odors to provide a clear, consistent, and safe indication of a find. This ensures **Safety**: A sit indicates the presence of explosives without the dog disturbing the area, reducing the risk of detonation **Clarity**: A sit is an unambiguous signal that the dog has detected an odor, making it easier for handlers to recognize and respond appropriately **Consistency**: It standardizes the response, ensuring all handlers can accurately interpret the dog's behavior, regardless of the specific dog Just everything they taught in the Navy K9 handler program.! Fun fact-Military dogs used to be trained to lay down and stare focused and be obedient at an odor until given a release command. However in real-world scenarios, this often meant delays in getting the dog off the IED in a timely manner causing casualties.
We aren't training for explosives, we are training for fun, so yes, very different goals and requirements. And the dogs that don't have enough drive to be a professional detection dog much prefer and build lots more drive without being required to do human taught behaviors after doing the intrinsic behaviors. Although they almost always communicate the find with a non hunting behavior and that behavior ultimately gets rewarded, allowing the training to be choice based is powerful. When we spend more time observing dogs and less time training behaviors, we see LOTS of changes that show you the scent cone and know they are going to source even before they communicate. And in order to be successful at the highest levels in this sport, reading the dog well allows you to assist them in solving problems or clearing areas in the time allowed. You have to be able to read blank or not blank very quickly, and in odor and close to source, multiple hides in an area, elevated, low, etc. So it is a skill we teach from day one for all handlers. We don't have time for our dogs to detail the search areas, and the scent cones for our training aids (essential oils) are much larger than in most professional applications, so not needed ever.
A much better example of requirements are searches at the Elite, Summit or Detective level.
I'm also a very experienced handler so I do often call "Alert" before my dog has done any form of communication.
Wow!! She's so thorough and persistent. How in the world did you remember them when you got into the chairs.
It is a handler skill that definitely requires practice!!
She does beautiful work! Why is she wearing the booties?
In case the floor is slippery. She can get going fast and make quick turns, and sliding is bad for their joints, ,and the sliding to halt or turn also makes solving hides more complicated.
You guys are amazing! I loved it when she jumped up on the mats to check the ropes.
Thank you! We recently had a hide hanging from a rope in training, and have been working a lot on elevated hides. Expectations are a huge part of the searches.
I am having trouble seeing the alerts on this dog. I would have called alert in buried on the box with the black thing in it. What are you seeing that I'm missing?
Such a great question. One of the handlers jobs is to become a skillful interpreter of their dog. A look (what most people are waiting for to know their dog "found it") can mean MANY things, as our dogs use this throughout their life as their main form of communication to get our attention. Relying on a specific trained behavior can lead to confusion between dog and handler. Instead, we want to use all the information the dogs give us that lead them up to whatever final communication behavior they give to verify that we KNOW what they are saying. For the buried container with the black thing (it was a cat toy distraction), her body language was not one of "ooh, I'm about to get a treat for finding it", but of curiosity. I notice her lower arousal level, position of tail, and the lack of tension in her body at the distraction. At the container that I called alert on (the odor container), there is higher arousal, tail up and wagging, more tension in her body, and a planting/positioning of her feet; all in anticipation of a reward from handler.
Looks like she was having fun...good job!!
I have a two dog client presently, whom I’m encouraging to introduce both of them to vocations that fulfill their inherent and phylogenetic drives, and Nosework for one and BarnHunt for the other. So, I appreciate this particular clip to share with the client for what to expect, also encouraging her to sub to watch more of your great NW vids! Thanks muchly!
nice dog and nice handling....
