Looks like a great day out on the Bay! Nice boat as well. What make and model is Andante?
Thank you! 1988 Hans Christian Christina 43.
Ahhhhh, who are you talking to?
Hi, the narration was filmed in a documentary/interview style, the interviewer is outside of the picture.
That bridge was SCARY. My airdraft is 63.5 feet, I guess I would have been stuck on the wrong side.
It's hard to say, I'm not sure if you would be able to go through with an airdraft of 63.5 feet. It was nerve wracking going through the bridge. It's scary to picture what could have happened if the mast crashed into the bridge, thankfully that wasn't the case.
Nice to finally see an update, and i dont know if youve already diagnosed the issue, but I'm guessing you have one or some combination of the following issues: rotted plank edges, failed caulking, failed butt block, or failed plank fastenings. I have plenty of all of those issues. Do you know what kind of fastners (ferrous, stainless, bronze/ copper) were used in her construction?
Hi, thanks for reaching out. The leak is coming from several weep holes along the main hull beams. It could very well be a combination of the issues as you've mentioned.
Hey Stephen Sea Quest hull number 7 .. There are no thru hulls in that area below the water line if your getting water on that side of boat (Next to the mizzen mast ) it a hull seam buddy and the only fix is a haul out, pack the seam and get her back in the water... You actually want the water to run to the lowest point of the boat not trapped in that area.... There are weep holes on all main hull beams ,take a long wire ,coat hanger and clean out the debris or shop vac.... every one has a weep hole forward and aft. Good luck ,glad to finally see some vids on her... She was a beautiful boat in her day.
Hi Stephen, thanks for the tips, appreciate you reaching out. Also, thanks for the videos you post about Sea Quest, she looks impeccable and helps me visualize what Sea Spirit can become.
@@Sea-Spirit Your much welcome!
So what happened? No videos?
Hi, all is well. Sorry, wasn’t able to find the time to upload more videos as of now. Will work to add more videos soon.
Worthy project my friend!
Thank you!
The power of prayer is incredible. We will follow your journey as we are avid sailors, God bless and good luck.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
Hahaha
Following you now, good luck with it but please hold your phone landscape when filming 😊
Thank you haha, will do! A lot of the footage was filmed for personal use, before the idea of a TH-cam channel came along, so it was filmed in portrait mode. Moving forward it will be in landscape mode.
I'm the "good samaritan" seen in the photo towing the Sea Spirit to the marina. I coach rowing (crew) out of the boathouse that's across the basin from the marina. For weeks it lay beached, quite near to the traffic pattern we follow for our practices. I happened along one morning after the boat had floated off the shore. The outgoing tide was drifting the boat out towards deeper waters, but also towards some shoals that are in our pattern. It was quite an adventure towing a 50+ foot sailing vessel with a 25 HP outboard, but it seemed the thing to do in the moment!
Thank you so much for your help!
Why didn't the person who towed it to the marina get to keep it? Didn't he know what the deal was regarding ownership?
I don’t think he was aware of the contest. He was just kind enough to help.
So, it's his boat not yours?@@Sea-Spirit
I own the boat. We’ve kept in touch since then, I’m not sure if he even wanted it.
I will follow your journey! I like your mindset. God Bless.
Thank you!
Chris, I have a remarkably similar story to yours but it occurred in the 1830s to my gg-great grandfather off the New Brunswick coast when he was captain of a much larger sailing ship after it has crossed the Atlantic from Liverpool. I will write in several weeks time but for now the single word used by my ancestor was..Providence.
Wow, would love to hear this story.
Wish you great success Hopefully your channel grows like Sampson co on TH-cam
Thank you!
My family used to own this boat when she was nearly new . I was in High School in Newport Beach, California, and had a lot of fun with her as a young sailor. It was my father who changed her rig from gaff rig to marconi rig with a taller mast, as she always seemed under powered. I always wondered what happened to her. She still looks good. I remember she was very well built. Hugh Anglenman, her designer, had a good eye.
Maybe you can provide info to make successful restoration
That’s amazing, thanks for letting me know. Would love to learn more about the trips that your family took on her and maybe create a log of where Sea Spirit travelled.
My father, Eugene Wells, was a very prolific designer /boat builder in his own right. So every couple of years we had a new boat to play on. I was a luck kid. He purchased Sea Spirit as an interim boat while waiting for a 34 footer he designed and was being produced in Hong Kong. It was the Wells 34 Nightingale Ketch. A total of 6 were built, the last 3 by American Marine. Anyway, we enjoyed Sea Spirit for a couple of years, making trips from Newport to Catalina. Regarding the restoration, you will find it a long and arduous task. The main thing is to enjoy the process. I think with her teak planking she could handle a long period out of the water which might be a more cost effective and practical approach for a complete restoration. You have a Gem.
That's amazing! Thank you for sharing this and for the tips, greatly appreciate it. I haven't taken Sea Spirit out of the water because the crane at my marina isn't able to lift her, but I hope to do so in the future. Regarding the restoration, it's definitely a labor of love.
Best of luck on your restoration. I too am saving a $1 wooden sailboat. I had wanted a wooden boat for a while, but the options were always build or buy (neither of which would have been affordable) Im not religious, but I remember one night I said "God, deliver me my ship.". It wasnt too long thereafter that a 30' wooden boat was in my yard and i was getting to work...
What a great story! I've subscribed to your channel and will follow your journey.
@@Sea-Spirit Thanks! I subscribed to you as well. Look forward to following your project and comparing notes.
She is a beautiful!
Thank you!
Bravo!
Thank you!
This is an incredible story! I'm interested to see how the process of restoration continues!
Thank you!

Thank you!
Not sure where my comment went so I ll try again... OMG so cool you save her. Havent seen her since she was in Ventura Cal nearly 30 years ago. Yep shes a all teak Angleman all teak , the cadilac of Sea Witches.... She has a taller main mast than any other Sea Witch..... I own Sea Quest hull number 7... Best to you looking forward to more vids... Best to you and your new adventure
Thank you! I think TH-cam might have filtered the comment so I removed the filtering feature.
Great beginning! Try to remember she doesn’t have to be perfect. She was built to go sailing………so go!
I live in the Stockholm archipelago. There are plenty of treacherous rock bottoms, but no tide to forgive us our mistakes.
Sorry to hear that.
