Heading out from Idaho Falls to Nampa, ID. Taking US 20. GPS said it would save 8 miles instead of taking Intersates 15-86-84 but 15 more minutes. Figured I'd try the two lane to see part of the country that I'd never seen before. Awesome scenic views of a dormant volcanic area thru this National Park. Smoggy ... Smoke covered sky in Montana . Taking away from the natural beauty of big Sky Country. Haven't seen it this dry up in Montana before, definitely a heightened fire risk. Jake Brake action starts at 7:10 mark. A "Butte" is defined as an isolated hill with steep, often vertical sides and a relatively flat top. That explains the struggle of crossing Butte, MT when fully loaded.

Interesting Fact: Belle Forche has a "Geographic Center of Nation" monument. It was dedicated on August 21, 2007. Sunset drive from South Dakota into Wyoming and Montana on US 212. Lots of deer on the roadside. But not a lot of road kill like other states. Wide open country, rugged but Beautiful!

Heavy downpour on Highway 401 in Ontario. Wipers became ineffective, just slow down and take it easy. Slightly different from what was forecasted, but we all know to not take them at their word... lol! PSA ... please turn on your full headlights in rain. Don't rely on just DRL's.

Big Sky Country got a lil interesting in this run. Hail storm near Helena got me uncomfortable, decided to avoid dark clouds near Butte and take MT-69, MT-55 & MT-41 to Dillon instead. Went thru some rain, but thankfully no more hail. Gotta keep new windshields Crack-Free as long as possible.

106 Farenheight & 44,000 lbs payload. Watching the Oil & Coolant temp gauge along with managing boost to keep the Temps under control on a long winding hill. Gearing down & running slower while keeping boost to 20 lbs or less. Made for a somewhat uncomfortable moment on US 30 while heading from McCammon, ID to Little America, WY.

Idaho may have taken over Montana for my favorite state to drive in. Great views, natural beauty and very nice 2 lanes.

White Bird Battlefield Overlook. Breathtaking views, remarkable history! Definitely recommend a stop to review the historical information and enjoy the views.
