    Out of the 15 or so Yamaha's iv owned. Its never been the starter etc. It's always the carb, fuel filter and check valve. Bring a battery and compression tester with you. Check for spark and compression numbers over 120 to about 150 (new) and you'll have a solid runner! 701cc is the best one to find.

    Looks like you have a good solid project there! I've always loved these cars. a Body guy for the last 33 years alot of that rust is fixable but that passenger rear quarter is toast and you need to just replace it, all of it because by the time you get up into the "good metal" your going to be missing more the half of it anyway, even by replacing just the rear patch panel may not be enough because you may have to grind more than you want or think so just just replace the entire, Yes I know "the full quarter is $500!" yes... yes it is but how much are you going to spend in blank sheet metal, welding wire, and bondo to fix it properly? You also have to consider your time and energy as well, even if your DIYing it you have to consider your time as a part of that cost. You can be over that $500 before you even realize it, learn that lesson the hard way a few time by thinking "Oh I can fix it for ALOT cheaper than just buying a new panel" because often you have to grind alot more than you think and once you take that metal away there's no coming back from that, once that metals gone it's gone forever and you may make the metal too thin after you grind it and thin is weak.

      @@qwertyword Thanks. This is my first Mopar. I recently sold my 55 Chevy and wanted another classic. I wanted a Dodge Demon, but apparently so does everyone else and the prices for them now are crazy. I found this Belvedere fairly local and what is nice about it is that it is really solid for an East coast car. I did not want to go down the rabbit hole with this car like a did with the Chevy and spend 10's of thousands of dollars on it. I just wanted a solid driver. Doing a front disc brake conversion and rebuilding the front end now.

    $30? When you could have taken the wheel off, drive over the tire with another vehicle to pop the tire bead loose. Insert new $1.50 valve from the inside. Reinflate, reinstall. Or take it to Discount Tire who will repair a flat for free even if you didn’t buy tires from them. They know you will next time.

  • @perillouss3506
    @perillouss3506 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, i don't know how far along your are with the project, but your may want to consider replacing or repairing the lower cowl panel. These mopars are notorious for leaking on the floor because rust holes in the lower cowl panel, and your floor rust out. To replace, you would have to drill out the spot welds on the upper panel to get access to the lower panel. I have, yrs ago, removed everything under the dash and did the repairs from the bottom, problem is doing it that way is trying to rustproof the top side. Once on a rotten out Dodge Aspen, i fiberglassed the underside and it held up for many yrs. but finally the rest of the car rusted out. Good Luck.

    • @qwertyword
      @qwertyword 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for the advice! Luckily the inside of the cowl panel looks really clean and when I washed it out I didn't see any water leaking into the car. I then sprayed the inside of the cowl with oil based enamel.

    Looks to me like a solid project car. Good luck with it! As for that rear problem, just cut the bad sections out, and then use new material from a blank. Like you said, grow your fab skills, that's how you get them. Plus, you're better off doing it like that since, IMO, repro panels these days don't really cut the mustard. So you're likely to get a better piece if you start from scratch with the idea that you'll just use them as "segment" parts. If you have time, check out channel name "Jo Daddy's Garage" he has a ton of content on how to do this kind of stuff, and the best part is he's explaining and detailing it for everyone at every level to get something out of it. He's really good at it.

    very nice update, what was the stock engine? and what are some of the issues with the ecotrons kit?

    • @qwertyword
      @qwertyword 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stock engine was a Briggs Victor 206 I believe. The ecotrons ECU and software was very lacking. We ended up running microsquirt.

    • @JoshKilen
      @JoshKilen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@qwertyword why is ecotrons lacking in what type of features?

    • @qwertyword
      @qwertyword 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoshKilen The software is not user friendly and all their documentation has been poorly translated. The documentation doesn't provide details about what can be done. It's really only set up to work with their hardware in a certain mode. I wanted better spark and fuel control so we added a 32-1 wheel. Microsquirt is very universal and we'll documented. It has way more resolution and settings. Microsquirt also allowed us to connect another injector to spray water in the intake once we went to a 13:1 compression ratio. TunerStudio was very helpful with it's auto tune feature. This allowed us to quickly dial in the AFR desired during Dyno pulls for BSFC.

    Hi! Have you been able to test the trans control on the car yet? Looking to do something similar for a street driven car, micro + arduino for 4l80e control. Debating with myself if it would be time/cost effective to either do this or look at something already developed and rdy to go with logging (terminator x max for example)

    • @qwertyword
      @qwertyword 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not had a chance to test it on the vehicle. My simulation says it should work. If you are looking at something to buy, you can use another microsquirt for transmission.

    • @FrozenNutsGarage
      @FrozenNutsGarage 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@qwertyword Yea that is my internal debate, from what I gather I might be able to a micro+arduino+wideband for about $650 using wiring from the stock harness into a micro plug.. just adding in a trans control micro is another $450 if not mistaken, at that point you can just as well buy a terminator x max with the difference being so small are you also managing line pressure with the arduino? I would think rpm and tps from canbus should be enough to handle shifts and line pressure to get something that drives fairly well on the street and hammers when you put the foot down, using a predefined table or non linear calc based on tps and rpm

    • @qwertyword
      @qwertyword 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FrozenNutsGarage I am managing line pressure with the arduino. It has 4 mosfets: PCS, A-sol, B-sol, and TCC. My code only uses throttle position to control pressure in a open loop. Right now it sets PW on time to 0 at 100% throttle and 40% ontime at idle. Linear relationship.
