Hi Efrat! Thank you so much for your videos 🙏 your channel is the only one I’ve found that talks specifically about the Mext Scholarship for Visual Arts. One of the things that worries me the most is the interview and the presentation of the research plan, could you tell me a little bit about it? Was there anyone in the comission that was from the Art field, how was the experience of having to “defend” and explain what it is to do research as an artist?
Thank you for making this video, Efrat! It's crazy to think your already 5 years there. How did you survive having mostly superficial relationships in Japan (i'm assuming they were mostly superficial)? And if you had one relationship or interaction with another Japanese that you will consider deep, how was it? How did it become deep?
@@EricMorales-fc9st It can indeed be tricky. Many interactions tend to feel on the surface because of cultural and language differences. That being said, I’ve found that deeper connections are possible, but they take time, patience, and maybe letting go of expectations. Just being open and loving no matter what comes… Easier said than done, but that’s the general swimming direction.
I'm going to a 専門学校 for イラストレーション in Osaka and I think I gotta a find a バイト but I'm not sure what the best like job posting site there is. I don't think my school helps with that....
I watched your two videos on guidance for the MEXT scholarship, and I want to thank you for sharing all the valuable information. I have one question I hope you can help with: My background is in Biological Sciences, where I completed both my bachelor's and master's degrees. However, since 2017, I have been working as a freelance cartoonist and illustrator, and I am very eager to pursue a master's in arts or animation. Do you think the MEXT scholarship could accept my application, even though my academic background is not in the arts?
I absolutely think so! You should apply. It all depends on your research proposal and the portfolio you submit with it. Working in the field is a great advantage as well. I really think academic background matters much less. People change their focus all the time in life
@@EfratArielle Thank you so much. And really appreciate your time. If you find time, do create some more videos related to admission and all whole process. Thanks again!
Thank you for sharing your rich experience of the Japanese culture, the joy, and... I'm glad you mentioned the sexist experience you had to go through with the older men in the bar. That is an important part and reveals the isolation of this culture and its implications like discrimination, sexism and biases. Something worth examining and rethinking.
That is... So disappointing. Everything is so boring:/
@@shanividal8885 Every year this exhibition is different. Also the world is vast and you can go find an interesting place !
Hey bro thx for moving to Japan we need more people just like you to help make Japan thrive !
Love your channel, thanks for talking about Japan.
25000 yen is so cheap 🤯🤯🤯 where is this city??
Just found your channel and subscribed.
I really loved your content ❤ I just want to ask you that I want to do my masters in art in Japan so can I do their ?
This is so cool! I’ve been trying to look up people going to Geidai or other japanese art universities with the MEXT research students! I plan to finish my current degree and go with that scholarship! Do you know how the choosing field of study works? I’m confused about it tbh. I wanna study nihonga, but I’m not sure if that’s a valid field of study. Like, u gotta choose the field and your research theme right? I’m just overall confused about that. I also don’t quite understand what being a research student means? Is it like, studying for a masters degree? What does it really entail to be a research student?? I just know I wanna study/research nihonga.
same!🥰🤤
Israel 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Can I study animation there even though I am an undergraduate? I also don't know Japanese? I want to learn animation there but I have never made one here before so I cannot show any work. I can draw very well.
Studying animation in japan does require Japanese language skills as far as I know
Thank you 😊
@@EfratArielle What about showing work or something like that? I mean I want to study like litterly study I don't know anything yet.
Thank you sooo much. I love how strangers on TH-cam can change my whole career 😂
Thank you so much
This was such a beautiful video … keep growing ❤
I want to know about that i want to apply for undergraduate study can I apply for fine arts and in which university Please tell me
What’s the best university in japan for graphic design?
I'm sorry, I don't know. I recommend researching different design programs online and comparing them with your needs. They probably all require some Japanese language skills.
Hello, thank you for the video! I would love to hear about your part time job experiences as well 🌷
Hello, efrat, can commerce background study art in japan?
Sometimes it depends on universities or departments, but I generally think your background doesn’t matter. It’s more important to try and go for your dreams than to hold back.
@@EfratArielle Thank you
Hey Efrat, loving the informative videos! They’re incredibly interesting and helpful ❤️ I’d like to elaborate about some of the subjects discussed for undergrads, Japanese knowledge, and regarding studying manga: 1. For an undergraduate degree, there is an age limit of 24 by the time you start studying to be eligible. Sadly all the universities and colleges I checked personally do not accept MEXT scholarships for art undergraduates, but only for masters’ and PhD’s. 2. All art degrees in Japan require a JLPT N2 level, and since all the material is taught in Japanese, it is highly recommended to be at a near native level to actually understand the classes and to not run into problems. 3. There’s a manga and animation department in Osaka’s college of the Arts (not the Osaka University which has only a master’s degree available, the specific one for arts in Higashiyama). Thank you for your hard work, have a great weekend 🙏
Thank you so much for joining in on giving more accurate info!! I appreciate it a lot. Many of us foreigners who studied at Geidai and graduated are below the N2 level, especially reading-wise. But there are ways to get along, depending on the department you are in. For studying Manga and Animation, however, language abilities are indeed required because there is a lot of writing and storytelling going on there.
@@EfratArielle Oh wow, most people online really emphasize that it’s near impossible to learn art in Japan because of the language barrier, so I’m glad to hear that it’s possible to get around that.
That was so much fun to watch and very informative! Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights into the artist perspective of studying and living in Japan!❤
Very nice video!
Good luck for both of you. I trust you
Hello ,thanks for your video can i an undergraduate go in for mext to study art ,because must of their past questions are mostly on science 😢
Can we apply for dance/performing arts through mext?
💙
Thanks Efrat. Take care
Caught up with your channel recently super calming to watch, lovely stuff, thank you :) Your previous apartment seemed to be a cheep deal for the amount of space you ended up getting, was it hard to find something like that and any tips on how to find similar places like it?
Tokyo University of arts has course in English or not
Hello, Efrat! I’ve been following you on IG for a while now, since I’ve learned about MEXT through your video. Thank you for that! May I ask if applying scholarship as a research student through MEXT have an age limit? I’m currently 25, and planning to apply next year, (I’ll be 26 by then) and I have also graduated my undergrad last 2018, and have been working as a designer for the past 5 years. Am I still eligible? I would really appreciate your answer!
Hello! You have plenty of time. The age limit for the MEXT scholarship is 35 (by the time of application). Go for it!
Can you watch more episodes

Congratulations! Loved your art and the exhibition in general. I'm also and art student hoping to apply for MEXT (geidai) next year. Could you please explain a bit more in depth the application process for art students? Like what kind of portfolio they require, paper work and university options. There's no many helpful guidances for MEXT and it's even worse for artists so i would appreciate your answer so much🧘🤍 thank you
Hi! Can we now which universities did you look for an art master? I’m having A HARD time tying to find universities 😢
Could you make a video about the exams you took and what exams you took and how hard they were?
It's the English and Japanese language exam and English one is the difficult one
loved your video.. i wanna study film from japan will i able to get mext scholarship cause i have no specific degree or certificate of filmmaking but i have made some shortfilms.
heyy! how are you? How's the job hunting going? I'll rewatch and make one! Very relaxing video<3
