This channel showcases the Lander Pipe Band (formerly Lander Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) Pipe Band) from Lander, Wyoming. We are a community pipe band with a twist. While we are dedicated to playing memorials and events honoring our veterans, fire fighters and law enforcement, we also participate in pipe band competitions. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality level of pipe band music possible. Lander is a town of about 7,000 people. We have a local piping instructor (Melissa Bautz) and we instruct our drummers via online lessons with professional drum instructors (Blair Brown and Christina Henry).

When I was younger, I tried to get onto my army cadet pipe band as a bagpiper, but I failed at the bagpipe. I should have tried out to be a snare drummer instead.

The “Bells of Dunblane” was written by Robert Mathieson after a 1996 school shooting in Dunblane Scotland. The bells of Dunblane cathedral rang a long tribute to the victims. The Pipe Major Robert Mathieson of the Shotts and Dykehead Pipe Band composed a slow air for the Highland Bagpipes in memoriam of the event. He entitled it "The Bells of Dunblane" because the silence of the people and the sound of the cathedral bells seemed much stronger than any spoken word. The First Responders who came to the scene if the massacre were also greatly affected by the event. Ever since then, this tune is played at memorials for Fire Fighters. It is also often performed at military, law enforcement, and paramedics funerals.

Yes, when we start new pipers in the band we let them do only drones for a while before until they feel comfortable with the bag. Then we add the chanter a few weeks later.

@@landerpipeband4866 I've actually disliked this song much of my life, and I'm a drummer-pounded the skins all through college. But done right?----yea! Best version is from a Scandinavian college choir, out in the snow in costume. They do it like I would dream, with tympani and ass-kicking chimes! Like you jump up and bring that hammer down.
