One of the best performances Ippo ever showed in a match was against Karasawa. His opponent wasn't weak, but at that time, Ippo was at his peak strength. However, after being rejected by Miyata, Ippo lost his will to fight. He was no longer fighting for his own dreams but rather to fulfill his obligation to Kamogawa, to show him how he learned boxing. In that mindset, he completely neglected his defense.
