Idle Surge Fix AAC AIC IAC Valve Bypass VG30E 1987-97 Nissan D21 Hardbody
welcome back to my 95 D21 project.
the AAC, AIC, or IAC Valve, however you want to say it, can cause your truck to surge while idling mimicking a bad head gasket or other issues. i couldnt find a video on how to replace or bypass this valve so i thought id put one up on my mechanic's fix. runs fine now, but in cold weather you have to hold the gas a little as the motor wont be able to easily regulate the air intake flow on start up.

welcome back to my Garage. this is a short video and easy fix to replace your indicator turn signal switch on a 87-93 nissan or datsun pickup or pathfinder. in many, as was the case in mine, will get a short in the switch causing your night time running lights to draw power overnight causing lots of headaches.
Nissan Datsun TD27 Diesel 1986-2008 Motor Mount Replacement
มุมมอง 6722 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my 1991 Datsun D21 Navara pickup, had some violent shakes, vibrations and sounds when you turn the truck on and off, even ideling sometimes. Doing my research I found out that they made this motor from the mid 80s all the way to 08 in some places around the world which is pretty special. However had a heck of a time finding the mounts for sale especially being in Canada, a country this ...

Limp Speedo (Speedometer) FIXED! 1995 Nissan D21 Hardbody Pickup
มุมมอง 22K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi All, Welcome to my first post! Hit that Like and Subscribe Button to see more quick fixes on Nissan D21s and more! In this video I share a fix I read online. My Speedometer needle used to almost never work, would randomly come back to life and then drop on its own while driving. Since using this fix with only a Screw Driver and some CRC Cleaner (you can pick some up at a local hardware store...
That’s not a tac that is the speedometer
i'm very happy to have watched this. it gives me another option. i cleaned the aac on my 97 stagea with carby cleaner and it fixed the stalling problem. but 2 years later the problem has started again. so i didnt clean it properly. so for those who wish not to remove the thing it can be cleaned.
2 cents worth of heatshrink would have solved this problem and saved you the cost of the switch. Now you probably have an inferior quality switch.
Explain?
@@Shinobu_D21 Put the shrink over the reed switch leaves to make the black plungers move the contacts further away from each other.
Thanks
Great tip thanks Did you just take the AIC completely off ? And did put on a plate?
He didnt take it off.Just plug lines
Wouldn’t this cause problems with ac idle up ?
Mine had the same problem. Ended up being a bad capacitor on the speedometer circuit board.
First I want to say Thank you for the post at 3:01 you state that removing the 4 screws that the "tachometer" will fall out. It is the "Speedometer" that falls out not the tachometer" :) Did it work better after putting it all back together and testing?
Hello.the machine is turned off to remove the hose. does this mean AIC has a problem?
Excellent video, thanks very much. There's not much out there on Hardbody trucks.
I I've watched your vidio, how to fix an odometer spin, but that's not my problem on my 1996 Nissan pickup truck the needle works find for the speed I'm traveling but it doesn't register the miles how can i fix that unit? 4:37
Same issue, did you ever get it fixed?
i watched your odometer repair, but my problem with my odometer is everything of the needle to record the speedometer that works my problem is it doesn't record the miles for the miles i travel,in the numbers below, how can i fix that unit to record the miles I've traveled
I plugged both those lines , my pathy wouldn’t stay idling , do you remove the iac like you have in your hand .? Do you keep installed , plug those lines and un-connect the connector ?. Please reply !
Oh man you got a badass truck bro a right hand drive super siiiiiick
What about the relay under the dash to the right of the steering wheel? Could that also be a causing this issue?
Yeah... I have learned in these old vehicles, and not just Nissan, If your vehicle has a high idle that drops down over time..... JUST bypass the IAC. You dont need it and its not necessarily the IAC that is causing the problem. You could just start throwing money at it replacing sensors... but again... just bypass the IAC and adjust your throttle with the screw on the throttle body. It wont be perfect and may stall in the cold, but if you adjust it right it will be perfectly usable. The only issue is if you have emissions testing. Bypassing it by just unplugging it will throw a code. I dont have emission in my state on vehicles over 20 years old. I know you could make a block off plate and then just zip tie the IAC out of the way somewhere and leave it plugged in. Theoretically that would work to prevent the check engine light from coming on..... but again.... in my neck of the woods I dont have to worry about it.
I read as well that those four screws complete the circuit for the speedometer, and they can back out and become loose over time. One fix I saw for this was using conductive glue as a thread locker, so the circuit still completes without backing out.
Hey brother, I'm on Vancouver Island and am about to take off the intake manifold and clean the IACV. I'm wondering where you are located in Canada and you have done any more videos on your hardbody. Specifically an EGR delete and removing the intake air manifold. I'm trying to free up some nonsense in the engine bay. Thanks so much for the video.
I had an intermittent speedo on mine ('97; close enough). No amount of cleaning helped. I reflowed some (4, I think) solder joints and it has worked for years. I had the instrument cluster out so many times chasing that down. No tilt wheel. It takes some fiddling, but can be done.
I changed my switch and my broken hazard switch . Just bought the truck , keeps popping the hazard fuse and turn signals still do not work. Any ideas ? A short I did find some wires that were broken . I fixed but still keeps popping fuse.
Where did you get that crew cab?
Where’d you get the speedometer at
One came with my truck.
Is there a fix for a 1995 hardbody 3.0L V6 odometer not working? Thanks
Wondering the same thing?
I have a 1995 hardbody D21 with a the odometer not clocking. Any idea how to fix it. The speedometer is working perfectly.
Did you get it fixed? Having g the same issue.
1997 didn't have the vg30
Some did.
They did in Canada and Mexico im pretty sure. America didn't get them past 95 because of emissions I believe
@@motobevy7850yeah 1995 was the last year for the v6 because the v6 did not comply with 1996 ob2 regulations
Has anyone looked into converting the obd1 to an obd2 somewhere we can actually read it without moving the passenger seat?
I like to know the location of speedometer sensor
Usually on the transmission.
My 91 nissan idles at 2k and its so annoying, do you recommend to do this?
Same here...
Going to ebay for round GPS speed and odometer 12 volts...ama zon is mph only cant check gas mileage.
mass airflow cleaner melts the numbers from the trip odomter!!!!!
Don't use MAF cleaner for anything but cleaning MAFs. Also, don't use anything else for cleaning MAFs. IIRC, they used contact cleaner. Very different stuff. I'd still test contact cleaner on something sacrificial.
Everyone watch out only use your fingers for the clips and be patient Next to the clips Things that are very fragile and electrical.... My speedometer was never broken but anyways it didn't fix the odometer I sprayed Mass air flow cleaner erase the numbers on the odometer Stuff is too strong...😢
it says use CRC electronic cleaner not mass air flow sensor cleaner. Completely different.
Did pretty much the same thing with my A32 Maxima before seeing your video. It appears to have largely sorted the problem except for a slight hesitation when starting from a dead stop. Have seen one vid where a fix was made by just tweaking the speedo mounting screws. These make critical electrical connections.
Thanks for the tip, I tried this on my 96 pickup a few hours ago and the speedometer is working just fine now
Where you buy it?
What are the consequences of doing this. Fuel mileage? Is that it? I'm having a hard time starting only when the engine is hot/warmed up. In the morning it starts up first crank at the end of a work day or when it's super hot out it'll take 20 seconds to turn over then idle roughly for about 30 seconds before it's normal. No check engine light ever comes on and I replaced all the fuel injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, gas tank air valve, and a lot more in the last year nothing has made a difference
Crank sensor
@@JasonGarcia-t6w that's what I've been thinking. Thanks
@@JasonGarcia-t6w on these trucks it seems like it's in the distributor which was replaced about 8 years ago. Shame I'll have to do it again so soon; that distributor has less than 50k miles on it.
Might be fuel regulator
It didn’t fix it. It worked for 2 days but then stopped working again. It’s a circuit board problem that the cleaner can’t fix.
I had to do some soldering on mine.
@@thesquarerootofnegativei6225 What part did you solder?
@@Lugnutz65 It was years ago, so I'm fuzzy on details. I'm thinking it was those four wires nearest the round metal part that you can see at 3:13. They just needed to be reflowed. Probably only one of those joints needed it, but I was in there and soldering is easy, so I just did all 4. I think it was the wiring between the board and the actual electromechanical part. Vibration plus age plus defect (early lead free solder was notoriously bad) probably led to a cracked joint. When hitting the dash makes something start working, it is usually a dirty contact or a broken solder joint.
I have an issue whereby my speedometer works but the ODOMETER stopped working. Any ideas?
Hey did u find your issue ? My stopped working too
I have the same issue. Let me know if for some reason this works. Mine worked for a little bit then quite
Same anyone find a way to fix it?
Not “nooks and nannies ”, the phrase is “nooks and crannies”.
رائع
it stopped working for me after a dew days. i did it again and made sure to clean the 4 screws that attach the speedometer to the cluster and it worked again
Speedometer don't have 160,my last number is 100,he must have a v6
His speedometer is Canadian, the big numbers are kilometers and the little ones are miles (his only goes to 100 mph too)
Awesome! Now do a quick and easy heater core replacement. I'll thank you in advance. Haha.
This worked well for me. Just did it!
Many thanks for posting this fix Good-E-Nuff. Worked like a charm on my '96. Much obliged!
How did you know that the malfunction was caused by the dust ?
My question sir is, did it work after you cleaned it?
Pretty good bed I'm having an issue with my tachometer I make sure I shoot that stuff into its "nooks and crannies"
GREAT VIDEO QUICK QUESTION DONT YOU NEED TO ADD GREASE TO THE GEARS JUST CURIOUS
There are two schools of thought. One is that any lubrication is good. The other is that grease attracts dirt, which wears the parts. If there was grease on the gears before cleaning, add some. If not, don't. Also, make sure that any grease you add isn't going to react with the gears and deform them or make them brittle.
Would this work for the fuel gauge or is that possible fuel pump issues?
th-cam.com/video/a_6NzE6l4wE/w-d-xo.html Check out this video. I watched this a few days ago because I'm having problems with my 95 hardbodys RPM gauge, fuel gauge and temp gauge.
Thank you.very much
great job on this video. you make it look easy. I am going for it , thanks :)
Same here, mine been like this for 20+ years and never bothered with fixing it. Now I'm going to try.
I have the 92’ d21 4cyl and when I’m driving my Speedo keeps getting stuck do you think this might help or is it a different deal?
No that's probably a speedo cabel issue, i believe after 94 there electrical instead
