Great video. We put our kids money into our savings also. If it's short term savings like a Sinking fund we keep it cash but longer term savings for them is in our account.

On the subject of council rates going up despite land value going down, I got my comprehensive car renewal for the year which is +400 from previous year and the agreed value of the car is $8k less. Go figure 🤦‍♀️

  • @laurastone826

Great video and advice. I personally use a sinking fund envelope with placeholder money for my kids but keep the actual funds in the offset. I can assure you any interest the bank will pay on their savings is considerably less than what they’re charging us on our home loan.

Even better! Offsets are tax free 'savings' on your mortgage and you know how much I love the words 'tax free'. Although keeping your kids' money means you decide the interest rate given. I wonder what the parent tax is now on the inflated birthday money and tooth fairy rates.😆

CLARIFICATION about children's taxation: Children are not required to acquire a Tax File Number (TFN) but can do so regardless. If parents open an account for a child but do NOT give the bank a TFN, then the bank will withhold 47% if more than $120/year is earned in banking interest. Children can earn $420/year in banking interest BUT income from other sources such as being a beneficiary of a trust, shares etc will be calculated at a cap of $416/year. Check out the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) links for examples.

Enjoyed your vlog. I understand that you will be working long hours, however if you plan the meals and prep for an hour on the weekend, it would save you a lot of time and money. My husband and I are in our 60's and both work full time (sort of) and meal planning and pre prep save us lots of money. I get the insurance, we live in the middle of the bush and house insurance is insane, if you can get it at all.

You're a good daughter and I bet you're parents are pleased with how they raised you. I couldn't live with myself if I had to financially live off my children. I tell hubby all the time it's so important now whilst our 3 kids are still youngish that we invest invest invest so that our children will never have the burden of taking care of us financially and I can gladly say since starting the cash envelopes system 5 years ago it's made that a reality.
